Inscrit depuis 6918 JoursWasteland is a very simple game mode. If you're familiar with Arma 2's Wasteland game mode, the rules are essentially the exact same.
As a player you can choose to be on 3 different teams: Blufor, Opfor, or Independent
- Blufor & Opfor are squad based teams. Joining one of them allows you to join one of many different squad selections, resulting in being apart of the squad you selected in-game. The squads vary from 3-6 people per squad, etc.
- Independent is playing by yourself. No squad. Lone-wolf. (currently if you kill another Independent, it will result in a -minus kill)
These 3 teams can all kill each other. Think of it as 1v1v1, with Independent able to kill everyone because they have no teammates.
You start with basic gear, food & water (not implemented), some money, and a pistol with one clip. Your ultimate goals vary on play style. Through out the map are vehicles and bases which contain items that can help you. You also can gather player money and weapons by killing others and looting them.
Stores are placed through out the map, if you have money and want to purchase goods.
There are movable objects at certain bases, so if you're so inclined you can take a squad and build a fort to defend.
Certain servers also run side-objectives. The side objectives usually involve AI of some sort (i.e. a crash chopper and crew with a weapons cache) that needs to be cleared before plundering the loot cache.
Spawning can be either random, by location with 1+ teammate residing, on your squad leader, or an enabled town by the server (usually disabled).
That is the basics, and the game mode is essentially about survival. The different objectives and squad based play lead to some very interesting situations that you won't experience in regular game modes like DM, etc.

Inscrit depuis 7343 JoursI still need to tweak my performance some more. Too bad draw distance gives the biggest gains since it just looks so good.
I also tried to set up some webcam program. You could use it like trackir but it didn't really work that well. I'll try to tweak settings and see if I can get it to work. Could also be that my webcam is so shitty...

Inscrit depuis 7576 JoursI'm currently hooked on Arma3. Sure it's still in Alpha and the performance still need to be optimized, but the improved infantry movement/stances are a great improvement over Arma2.
After playing the 4 different scenario's that are incorporated into the Alpha, I decided to try out some multiplayer.
I ended up on a server called Tier1ops.eu, which ended up being a community for like-minded milsim freaks. I decided to join up and have been doing missions with them (and followed some of their weekly training sessions) and it's been really fun so far! Also joined their weekly private mission session yesterday evening (custom made missions you play on the private server with the rest of the guys)
Have a look:

I have 2 more alpha invites up for grabs.

I have some alpha invites as well, but someone mentioned they were only single player. Is that true?

Inscrit depuis 7576 JoursI was more interested in co-op scenarios here, but wasteland also sounds pretty interesting. The performance is still off-putting though for a multiplayer game. I recognize that it's an alpha but that would definitely give me pause.
But yea.. infantry gameplay is vastly improved. Good stuff.

Inscrit depuis 6918 JoursThough a few servers the admins are running their own missions which are a lot more stable, but they're harder to join. So it varies. I don't think there will be a good base coop like Arma 2's Evolution Coop or Destruction until the game is released.
My biggest issue at the moment though, cheaters. They're rampant, especially in servers with a large amount of players. They seem to just come in and wreck the entire game, if not kill everyone and crash the servers. I hope something is done, because this is making people, including myself, jaded.
(And yes, I agree. Forcing a pre-order to get into an alpha, is a cheap ploy to secure funds and very lame.)

- All the best mods from ArmaII get ported before the full game is even released.
- We get to play the game before it's released.
And I've only spend €30 instead.
[sarcasm]Yeah seems like this is a stupid move indeed [/sarcasm]
