I played Odyssey in what feels like installments, starting and doing everything available, then stopping, then doing it all over again. Which really contributed to the fatigue. Felt like playing 2 Assassin's Creed games in the span of 1 year.
Better to do it all in one go - crazy since this should feel more tiring, but it feels less as you're "one and done" instead of doing it by piece meal sizes, plus the abilities one would get with the expansions and all the added features, bug fixes and optimizations would make it a far better experience.
This Season Pass and free Post-Launch content don't feel as inspired and doesn't seem as content heavy as Odyssey's Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis - which introduced 3 mini-open worlds with Elysium, The Underworld, and Atlantis.
Crazy to think I could end up waiting 1 year to play a new Assassin's Creed game, but with Warframe, Genshin Impact, Destinty 2 + Beyond Light expansion, and so many other great games, I don't even know if I would have the time to spend 100-150 hours with just one game right now.
I'm also serioualy considering waiting from a few months to a year to play Cyberpunk 2077. I played The Witcher 3 when the Game of the Year edition came out and had the most wonderful time with it. A lot of features, DLCs, bug fixes, optimizations, and was a complete package.
The mods and guides also had a lot of time to increase in number and evolve. As well as many workarounds to basically any issue the developers missed. And it was cheaper than everything at launch.
I feel the same for Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6, as well as for any game coming out in the next weeks, months or years ahead. I don't care about FOMO, so I just don't feel the need to play them as soon as possible. I've been doing the same with movies and TV shows, and it's great. But if people start saying how great some of these games are... now that will be hard to resist. The hype train is real.
Never finshed it and due to much better titles out there, never will.
Since the world was absolutely gigantic, it also felt very real with all sorts of locations. I recently - 3-4 months back - started playing Origins again, just for kicks and put a good 10-12 hours into it without realizing it. Because Aya and Bayek's story and the world were so interesting.
I understand it's not for everyone, which nothing in this world is, but all the praise Odyssey - and also Origins - got is well deserved. Odyssey is one of the best Assassin's Creed games. If not the best, definitely top 3. And it's also one of the best games of this generation imho.
But like you've said, there's other great games, and some are better than Odyssey. It's like with Breath of the Wild, not everyone likes it, which is fine. Same for Ocarina of Time, Persona 5, God of War (2018), The Last of us, etc. It's all fine.
The wonderful thing is that there are hundreds of thousands of games from all kinds of genres to choose from. As long as you're happy and having fun with what you're playing, there's no wrong choice. That's what "Gaming" is all about.
I don't know what's the problem but it's somehow uninspiring. My background is that I loved Origins (spent around 100 hrs.) and played all of the previous titles from the beginning in the series but Odyssey will remain in a limbo for me I guess.
Valhalla seems interesting from what I've seen but in the back of my mind there is this question creeping if it would end up being Odyssey 2 for me :( Hopefully there are so many games already out and coming out that I'll just wait and maybe get my hands on it next year hopefully.
I must admit I respect that they will again do the Discovery tour - that's very nice!
Never finshed it and due to much better titles out there, never will.
Just started playing Odyssey recently even though I've owned it for quite a while. I'm really, really enjoying it so far and very impressed with the world and visuals. Kinda kicking myself wishing I had played it long ago instead of Horizon and some other games.
I still need to play Horizon: Zero Dawn, but I was waiting for a Black Friday deal. Though now I'm not sure since I'm probably gonna wait a few months to play it, so most likely not worth buying it if I'm not planning to play it immediately.
Did that with Red Dead Redemption 2 and now it's sitting in my library staring at me. Which I abandoned at the beginning of Chapter 2 - when you finally are free to explore the world - to play Ghost Recon: Breakpoint... which is something, I admit.
Then I've been playing Destiny 2 and Genshin Impact, which consume all the free time I have. I'm really excited about Hades, since I love Transistor and Supergiant Games, but most likely won't be able to play it until next year with Destiny 2's Beyond Light expansion and Genshin Impact's v1.1 Major Expansion with a 3rd open area region coming in November 10 and 11, respectively. Online games for the win... I guess. But I'm having fun, so that's what matters in the end.
Will play it this time on day one (on the Series X).
I do it with 'em all: PC, WiiU, PS4 and Xbox One.
