Bloody hell!!!! 2 Million Wiis !!!!!!!!! (Wii sales in November of last year were 981,000)

Good performance for the 360 (360 sales in November of last year were 770,000)

Very poor performance for the PS3 though (PS3 sales in November of last year were 466,000)

I thought you were wrong there for a moment--but you are indeed right Mr. Right--I was thinking December. November 06 was 511k and 07 was 770k or so. It was December 06 that was 1.1M iirc and 07 near 1.5M? Anyhow those are strong numbers as sales continue to grow Year-over-Year, especially when you consider 07 saw the release of MS's major IP. Kind of surprised Gears 2 sales aren't higher tbh.

You're right about Gears actually. I thought it would do at least 2 million especially considering it has three weeks of sales in the month of November.

PS3; 1 at best but my money is on 700-800k

The gow2 figures in this climate are very good, plus 3million sold through to date is excellent, and it got to that figure 2 months quicker than GOW1 did!, the 360 836K is very good and the 8.1 attach rate is insane, but not as insane as 2million Wii's WTF!.

I will never understand how the Wii can outperform Xbox360 and PS3 since it only offer trash games (only a few titles that can be numbered with the fingers of my hand can be considered good games).

Easy the Wii is a family/social console with games that are easy to play, and a hell of allot of fun with all the family/friends, and word of mouth is king, people that would never ever have considered gaming, are now picking up a Wii because all there mates have one and are telling them that its the second coming and they must own one, it is indeed a phenomenon that only seems to be gaining in strength and sales numbers, when will it stop? probaly when every household on the planet has one.

agreed. resisting it is futile for a casual gamer. It's obviously working very well for those who want that kind of experience, there aint anything wrong with that. For 3rd party developrs though, it's a different story. Games are selling on 360/PS3 and simply arent on the Wii.

Agreed, yet it is harming Nintendo more than they may realise, their next console won't sell as well, these family gamers won't be willing to spend more money next gen because they won't beable to see the added value, the real gamers will be less trusting in Nintendo because they have brough so little to gaming with the Wii.

Nintendo are relying more and more on their own software and less on 3rd party and its only going to backfire on them at some point.

I guess that could be true, but would Nintendo even need to consider another nextgen Wii, they could just keep enhancing the motion controller and coming up with new gadgets and games that use them for a very long time, and the same casual s would lap it up.

Perhaps, but the problem is that there is now a new class of gamer, before we had hardcore and casual, but now we have the less than casual interest (non gamers), I'm curious to know just how much of the Wii user base is made up of non gamers, because its these kind of people that can easily lose interest, especially if something new comes to the market (not necessarily gaming orientated)

You must be talking about Patcher's prediction of the PS3 coming down $100 by April and the 360 following suit at E3, but we all know about patcher and his predictions?, personally i can see a $50 cut because i feel they just have to do something, but as Sony have stated that there goal is to try to make a profit or at worst break even this year on the PS3, i cant see anything more than a $50 cut late in the year. Almost 70% has been wiped off Sony's stock price since last year, and for the first time in 14yrs analyst are predicting an operating loss of $1.1 billion for Sony, with drastic restructuring action to be taken in the next few months if this is the case, if indeed the $100 cut dose take place then it would be a desperate and dangerous move by Sony IMO.

Decreasing the PS3 price by $100 is financial suicide! Sony is already about to lay off 16.000 employees. Right now, they have to make sure they can hit profitabilty soon and dropping the price by that much aint gonna do the trick. I expect a $50 price cut at best!

Will never happen, as my household will never get one.. Only if we get it for free with many games.. ;)

I agree with you about the Wii.. And also with alimokrane and Jollipop.. The whole new Wii userbase might works against Nintendo in the long run.. It's a strange market anyway, one gen you can flop, the next you can be marketleader, and visa versa.. Nintendo knew they couldn't compete with MS and Sony anymore in terms of high-end and hardcore consolehardware and games, so they choose a different path trying to create their own market with family/kid/party/casual games on relative cheap hardware with a gadget controller, and sofar it's paying off..

PS3 will take off once it gets near $200-250 aswell.. I see it overtake the Xbox 360 in the longrun, like predicted at the start of this gen.. I have to say though, MS with the Xbox 360 surprised me, how long they hold the lead over Sony.. I think MS is very happy about it as they didn't plan to be in the lead this long I think.. The 1st Xbox was about introduction in a new market, the 2nd one was about catching up to Sony, and the 3rd Xbox was planned to take the lead.. They are ahead of schedule.. Although I doubt they considered Nintendo running away with it this gen (not that it should really worry them as Nintendo went after a different market)..

The 360 will still outsell the PS3 in 2009 in the US. Europe is debatable. I dont see the PS3 taking off in Japan anytime soon. Metal Gear Solid 4 didnt do the trick and I seriously doubt that FF13 will. it may have a much bigger impact than MGS4 over there but it won't be a massive hardware pusher.

One thing is for sure. We all predicted that 360 will win 2008 against the PS3 but 2009 is looking less obvious. I think 2010 will have the answer.

The time gap between the PS3 and 360 makes things complicated. I'm pretty sure that Sony will want to support the PS3 for as long as possible as they drove a SHITLOAD of money into it during development and production and i think that MS will have a new console out quite a bit earlier than sony will be willing to and hence the competition will be kind of skewed. I don't even take Nintendo in to consideration since the Wii, and most likely it's successor, will not be aimed at gamers but rather casuals and people who generally don't play games. No doubt they will continue with their success though.

I guess another interesting question is - does it really matter?

The competition is good ofc but does it, in the end, really matter which console comes out on top? Unless you are some rabid sony/MS fanboy ofc, but in that scenario all sense of logic just unravels and shreds into nothingness :P

Personally i couldn't care less if the PS3 passed the 360 in sales. As long as i get good games i'm happy.

im with megido, i think sony will stick it out, but MS will release even earlier then they did with the 360, creating an even bigger gap between the 720 and the ps4...maybe to a point where you simply cant consider them rivals anymore.

i mean, imagine if the release for console became so skewed that it was a case of

720 releases > 3 years later > ps4 releases > 3 years later > 1080 releases > 3 years later > ps5 releases

not only would the console be staggered release wish, but there would be a considerable gap in visual qualioty between each parties console. 720 will be better then the ps3....but then 3 years later the ps4 will have better graphics then the 720....

hopefully it doesnt come to that and MS hold out.
