The fighters you prefer always have balancing issues and claims are always made that the game is broken or characters are broken.

The only difference is Tecmo doesn't re release the game 3-4 times to change issues people have with their balancing.

Because you play at too low a level to notice, most likely. When you get over the threshold, changing single moves can make a big difference for a character, and usually they change more than one move between games, not to mention adding new mechanics and characters.

See I dislike this notion that I need to play a game X amount of hours to actually enjoy it.
I don't want to get over the threshold because I don't care enough about the fighters that require it.

It's like the friends who got me to play WoW and told me it didn't really get good till I was in the upper 50's or topped out at 60. So cool I just bought this game and I have to play it for an insane amount of time to actually get to the enjoyable part. No thanks.

Take Street Fighter for example. I have friends who have played the latest game to an insane degree. They still feel they aren't good at the game. They've played in tourneys and competitions.
I have no desire to do what they're doing, at all.

How much (or how little) these games have changed is a real thing.. it's not something that either of us can just make up. Dead or Alive has not really adopted a single new system since DOA2, has it? It has literally been a host of tweaks and roster updates.

You don't need to be as good as they're talking about wanting to be to enjoy the game. Nope. You don't need to be that good to win, either, especially in casual settings against friends or on Xbox Live. You do not need to be ready for evo to enjoy SF4 (or 3, or 2, or any of the other games mentioned in this thread). All you need to do is learn a few basic systems, and the ins-and-outs of a single character.

I see the changes in Street Fighter and other fighters right now as just tweaks and roster updates as well. The only difference is there is less of DOA and more of games like SF flooded in the market.

Well the more you play the easier picking up new fighters get, just like you quickly pick up a new FPS becasue you know the basic mechanics. Most of them build on the same basics, the big difference being 3D or 2d. I mean if you know how to play SFIV you can pick up BlazBlue or KoF fairly quickly as the same basic principles apply in all of them. Same with the 3D fighters.

Who says you can't enjoy it even if you haven't mastered it? You just have to enjoy the learning process. For me it was easy since i know a very skilled Tekken player that introduced me to it, but i imagine it can't be that hard to find people to play with.

Than you're just not paying very much attention. When DOA received its last major update, Street Fighter was still on Third Strike. Is SF4-to-super a host of tweaks and roster updates? Sure. It also is still called "Street Fighter 4."

Also, how could you possibly call the fighting market flooded? There's Street Fighter, Tekken, MvC3 and SC duking it out at the top, then we have like KoF, BlazBlue and DoA sulking in the background just above the official burial site of VF.

Also there's only been one Tekken this generation, one VF and well next month 2 iterations of Soul Calibur. Your perspective on this seems a bit biased :P

Yours is just as biased as my own. Same with Grift.

I can think of very few other games who get as much "sequel" treatment as the fighters this generation. That is what I refer to when I say flooded.

Okay, so Tekken 6 has the largest roster to date, revamps the juggle system, introduces rage and rebalances/tweaks every character. SFIV does pretty much the same. Both feel like pretty hefty updates. SCIV makes some smaller strides but yeah, aside from balancing and the freaking execution move not THAT much seems to have happened. Maybe i'm wrong there, maybe not. I bet Grift can fill us in on that one. VF5 did a pretty big balancing leap too, though i can agree that it's still very much VF but only someone barely scratching the surface can say that it's not an update from 4. MvC3 seems like a fairly big change from 2 as well. Loads of new characters, new engine...pretty much new everything.

I just don't see it. I think fighters this generation ahve been doing exceedingly well. Staying fresh yet true.

Cmon guys, teaming up against Tinks like that..not cool.

You know what I'd like? Instead of going back and forward with arguments..

How about we play some DoA?!

If its really that...simple or easy to master...why dont we play some rounds and you guys show me how easy it is? :P

You have to be very good at it I guess and to be honest...I really enjoy battling pro's.

Outside of Capcom's upgrades to SF4 and MVC3, care to give any examples? There have been like 10 Call of Duty games this generation, and plenty of other franchises are on their third+ sequel already.

From the roster rebuild to all of the new systems, this is the most different Soul Calibur has probably ever been. It mostly revolves around metered moves. Guard impact now costs meter to perform, too, and a new just-guard has been implemented to supplement GI. They've pushed the pace of combat big time. They added an 8-way evade for every character. They've torn down and rebuilt almost every character in the game. Supers and EX moves stand to mix things up even further. The game seems about as new as you could possibly want a sequel to be.

They actually *cut* most move sets down in SC5 too, but most people see this as trimming the fat.

I can't imagine I'm very good at all at the moment, but I guess that's the point, right? You don't need to be! I'm not opposed to playing some DOA4 at some point. I just got a new Xbox. I have to find my copy of the game and get live first.. but.. maybe? :D I'll be pretty distracted by Soul Calibur in a few weeks though.

About that SC5....what console will you be getting it for? I fear you might be getting it for the 360.

That would mean I wont be able to play online with you. (will be getting the ps3 version)

Seriously I need people who are good at fighting games on ps3! (d-pad > 360)

PS:Grift...don't you dare bring continents into this discussion sir! I am willing to stay up....(or down) As long as I don't have to wake up early the next morning...sleep is not even needed...so there...thats solved!

Trues. Science needs to invent faster internets. Or teleportation. Actually, just fix both please.

I might get DoA5, but don't count on it. Depends on my economy and when it drops. I mean We have SCV coming out in like 2 weeks, the VF5 FT this summer, then arounc christmas sometime we'll be getting Tekken Tag 2, so pretty much all of those go before DoA5. Especially after this trailer that looks more like a QTE-fest than a fighter :P

Also grift, i was actually talking about Soul Clibur 4 up there. I know that 5 changes up a whole lot of stuff.

Oh, yeah.. SC4, to me, was more of an attempt to get SC3 right (and imo they mostly succeeded). It's like SC4 was like Win7 after SC3's Vista :D

Yeah, but then i was kinda right. They didn't make any huge leaps, but they rather fixed it up. Which is fine, i remember SC3 as sucking pretty bad. All fighting series seems to have that one game that just reeks. Street Fighter 1, SC3, Tekken 4, VF3TB and so forth :)

I hate fighters nowwadays. They should never have gotten more complex than SFII. Learning all these combos for multiple characters *spits*. Why not have the same move set, but each characters style and attacks change? AKA Super Smash Bros! (The best selling "Fighter" in the World).

Alright I'm done here. I'm contractually obligated to post this opinion once in every fighter thread to piss off Grift.
