EA gets rights to Star Wars Brand

So news is that EA has acquired rights to Star Wars... 3 devs are said to be now in pre production on games, Visceral, Bioware (the good one), and DICE.
IGN already has a take on this situation stating what I'm already assuming most of you are thinking, not just myself.
Visceral = maybe a Jedi Knight sequel of some variant
Bioware = Hello Kotor???
DICE = Star Wars Battlefront variant
Then maybe EA can dev some sort of pod racing internally (Burnout)

I believe there is talk to that all these games will be using the latest Frostbite engine too. So it'll look quite pretty whatever they make.

What does everyone feel about this move? Given EA's track record is this good for the franchise or not

This came out of nowhere, but EA? interesting, and I agree.

Bioware does KOTOR 3 and DICE makes a SW shooter (Republic Commando 2?)

I am more interested in KOTOR 3 tbh, though i really dislike the combat system in KOTOR games unfortunetly, unless they make it closer to Dragon Age 2 combat which I dont mind.

I would probably hang myself. This is the worst thing you've ever said. By far. It hurts me.

DA2 was the worst thing I've ever seen. Press the A button repeatedly to win? Made it into a crappy action game with RPG leveling. I wasn't as afraid for KOTOR until I read this. Luckily DA2 got bashed across the board so hopefully EA/Bioware won't go backwards. As long as Drew Karpyshyn come back to write it will have a great story and I'll be interested.

DICE and Battlefront 3 have me very interested. Visceral (Dead Space devs) reviving 1313 would also be great. I think there's a lot to be optimistic for in this news, but EA will always manage to fug things up.

Ehm...the tap A constantly was patched later on to make it auto attack like Origins so you could focus on other skills, I hated the fact you had to keep pressing A to attack constantly and stop attacking just to be able to focus on other skills and then go back to pressing the same button again. After the patch with auto attack combat was like exactly like Origins but faster animated than the boring and slow animations of Origins which I am not a fan of.

The rest of DA2 was totally crap.

Where does EA get the money? I mean they burn huge piles of cash every fuckin year and they just never seem to run out. Their stock in the crapper, they post huge losses every damn quarter. Where the fuck are they getting all the money to buy up all of these franchise rights?

Anyone knows for how long they have exclusive rights?

No one is really saying more than it being multi year so far it seems. At least I don't see it anywhere immediately.
They probably still have a surplus of cash from all the years of milking Madden.

As for Kotor, I would expect it to be more like Mass Effect. Simple and cinematic.
It'll probably lose the old system most people enjoyed just like ME did as well.

Other than DICE, I have faith that the other two companies will put out something good. I feel like EA is really stretching DICE thin, which is sad.

I'm sure 1313 is dead.

On the other hand, DICE is a pretty large developer and we're only aware of one game in their pipeline. Which is essentially an upgraded version of BF3.

Although speculation suggests Mirror's Edge might happen too.

You know what else I didn't think of? Microsoft. They're now probably getting huge infusions of cash from MS for exclusives.

We won't get a KOTOR3 out of Bioware, they're calling SWTOR the sequel of the KOTOR1&2. Which makes me wonder what EA will do with SWTOR now? I'll bet they try to push it on consoles to try to make back some of that money they spent.

Grift is right though, DICE is a large outfit. They can handle the extra workload.

So I'm thinking 3rd person RPG from Bioware, FPS' from DICE and Visceral.

You know guys, EA's cap rating has been lowered to $6 Billion dollars...............a REAL steal for whoever has the cash to not only purchase, but absorb their debt.
