Yayyyy, I was wondering why Microsoft only released a 720p video to this day.
Worst week in the history of the Xbox division ever.

It's not a target render if it's using actual game engine assets. The only thing doubtful about EA's trailer was the seamless animations.

This is in-game. I've absolutely no doubts about that. You just need to look at how good Forza 4 looks.

EA trailer was confirmed to be pre-rendered. Using in-game assets, but not real time on hardware. Could be the same dealio here?

What I'm saying is that there is a fair bit of difference between an actual target render where the game hardware can't possibly produce anything like it, like the Motorstorm and KZ 2005 demos. That's a target render. Just because it's pre-rendered, it doesn't mean that the game won't be looking anything like that, remember, Alan Wake and Uncharted all use pre-rendered FMV for the cut scenes that look somewhat better, with better animations and that, but it's still using the actual game assets. Similar deal with that EA video, I'd imagine, because it looked like Fifa 13 with some fancy shaders, new lighting, and dynamic cloth on the kits. Pretty much what you'd expect from next gen. I don't think this trailer is a render either. It looks far too close to Forza 4 for it to be. I'd expect racing games on both systems to look even better than this, and they will.

If this were being rendered in-engine, I don't think it would have been at 30fps for one, as every simulation level forza game has been rendered at 60fps. Second, it just has that "look" of being pre rendered. It doesn't at all look like a real time 3D engine. Now don't get me wrong, I'd love to be wrong here. But this looks pre-rendered through and through. Honestly, I don't think MS was at all ready to have an event. I think months ago there was a level of uncertainty as to whether or not Sony would have an event and this even that they held was a contingency plan that they would have rather not done. I think the fact that only Activision really had anything to show should be testament to that.

What makes you think it wasn't running at 60fps? Just because the video has 30fps, it doesn't mean that the actual source wasn't running at 60. Maybe they haven't even locked the game down to 60 fps yet? Loads of reasons. Nothing in that video suggests to me it's CGI. Nothing.

Well I'm gonna go on record right now and say that those EA titles WILL NOT look like that. That video didn't look ANYTHING like what we have today in sports titles. In fact, that footage looked very similar to the pre-rendered madden trailer that EA showed at the unveil of the xbox360. And your argument about uncharted in particular is factual. But I don't think these are even game assets that we're seeing. They were pretty videos put together by devs and publishers for MS. Nothing is really ready to be shown. That'll wait til E3.

So for the next generation, THE NEXT GENERATION, they're going to possibly step DOWN from 60fps to 30fps? When turn10 has gone on record stating that their physics engine is highly dependent on the 60fps frame rate? No sir, it's pre-rendered. Just go back and watch the event, or at least, the moments when they showed those clips. At these types of things they are usually VERY clear if they are about to show in game or in engine footage. Eric Hirshberg, when introducing the CoD:Ghosts trailer, was very specific about it being in-engine footage. All the other vids were preceded by more vague statements like: "here's what this will look and play like", which is industry lingo for "here's what we THINK this will look and play like"

Why would you doubt they aren't actual game assets? Look at the autovista models in Forza 4. Those are this level of model. Look at the Fifa video again, then pause it and go and compare the models to current Fifa titles. They look just a step up from them, and only just. Obviously the kits are a far higher poly because they have to deform, but you can clearly see the origins, and if EA say those are actual assets, then that is what the game will look like. I can't understand how anyone can say otherwise. These new systems are 8 years more advanced than a 360 or PS3. Why is it so hard to grasp that the bump in lighting, cloth dynamics, animations et al in those trailers won't be representative of the final product. Even the current Fifa titles have pre rendered intros using the actual game engine and it looks representative of the game itself. It's the exact same thing.

You're correct. That isn't what you said. I had to go back and re-read your post. I apologize. I don't mean for this to turn into a bitter argument of sorts. This is all just very reminiscent of the Killzone incident. And then those guys were swearing up and down that that trailer was in-engine real time. Like I said before, ever since that happened, these guys are generally speaking, very specific to point ou when something is or isn't running on the box. At the PS event for every demo they clearly stated "THIS IS RUNNING ON PS4 HARDWARE." As did Hirshberg with with CoD footage, which was clearly real time. And really, that's what I'M personally interested in. I'm not interested in anything Pre-rendered, from in game assets or otherwise. Look at that gorgeous GT6 trailer. Pre rendered from in game assets. doesn't matter that it's game assets, GT6 will NOT look that good. As much as I love the GT series, Yamauchi and crew have been pulling that crap with their trailers for quite some time. Same thing here.

It's not really a bitter argument, though. I do think that you're in for a little bit of a surprise, a good one, at E3 when you see these games properly, because I'm 100 percent certain that they will look just like these trailers. There's evidence in the Forza trailer that it's actually real time, like the low res shadow map updating on the model as the camera pans over the roof just over half way in, and some AA flickering around the edges. Take a look at Fifa 09's trailer from 4 years ago. It's pre rendered, but it's doing the same thing that Fifa 14's trailer is doing by using the game assets. The difference between now and 2005 is that the trailers back then were all CGI. No game assets being used in them whatsoever. Big difference between fully fledged CG and something that's pre-rendered using the actual game itself, plus the hardware is now capable.

Someone tweeted "and it wasn't even CG" and then deleted the tweet later for some reason, there was an unnatural way to how the cars and camera moved.

It's an edited trailer, after all. That shouldn't be surprising.
