Not sure what this means as far as Next Gen... This is a huge title, and new consoles could be possibly coming out within 60 days of GTA V's release?! I wonder if they'll announce it for Next Gen as well?




Grand Theft Auto 5 will hijack Xbox 360 and PS3 retail on September 17, 2013. Publisher Rockstar Games says the game has been moved from its originally projected release window of spring in order to "allow additional development time."

"We are very excited for people to learn more about the game in the coming months," said Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser.

Wow. That's surprising, and disappointing. It won't hurt its sales in the slightest, but I'm sure all the other big games are like "Fuck me".

True, a very good game to end out the generation with, indeed. If at all possible, I intend to play it on a next gen console, as opposed to on the current 360/PS3.

Well, I suppose that is possible. I did always find it more than odd that they were releasing such a big game on current gen consoles, knowing full well that new machines were on the way, but then if there is any game that can get away with this, it would have to be GTA.

Some are suggesting that MS moneyhatted an exclusive next gen xbox port of GTA 5. Of course it's pure speculation, but I wouldn't put it past them, honestly. It would still release on 360 and PS3, but a potential next gen xbox exclusive port? That would be all kinds of amazing.

I doubt we'll have next gen consoles in our hands for over a year though. By which point GTA5 could well be 6 - 8 months old if not more. I'd have been there, done that by then. Moved onto other things. Wouldn't be able to wait it out either cos i'm too impatient. It'd be like the wii-u ports of batman and darksiders 2 etc. sure its nice for them to be on that console, but anyone who even had a slight interest had played them already.

I dont see that happening! as that would be massive as a launch title, but with everyone already getting the 360/ps3 version in September, i dont see the benifit?

Some people can wait a few months. I'm not buying the PS360 version of GTA5 even if it doesn't come out on next gen consoles. I'll just wait for the PC version.

And I bought GTA4 twice. I think they'd sell plenty of GTA5's for next gen if they wanted to.

Well, people could see the Xbox launching this year. And now with Sony's press event in late October, it's hard to imagine they're not trying to push back a little.

It could just be the, "it'll be worth the wait" argument.

Even if they didn't launch until next year, I could still see plenty of people purchasing (or repurchasing) GTA for next gen. Having played GTA4 on both 360 and PC, I can tell ya that it'd be worth it.

Now could R* even pull that off? I don't know.

Well, an apparent positive of these consoles seems to be that they are so much more similar to pcs than previous consoles, and we already know rockstar has to have GTA5 already up and running on pc, so it may not be that tough of a port job to ps4 and next xbox.

I can imagine exactly how the port process would go, too.

I mean, think about it. How much data are we really talking here? 7.5-30GB of data at best? How long would it really take to copy and paste all that? They could have next gen ports of GTA5 ready in like 30 minutes. Devs are so lazy nowadays. I'm obviously not serious :) I understand they would need to burn some discs, too, which should add an extra 5-10 minutes or more to the process.
