Set in the beautiful yet mysterious world of Falana, this game chronicles Dust’s journey to liberate an oppressed village and rediscover his past. Meticulously hand-animated and painted, Dust: An Elysian Tail welcomes exploration, action, and above all else, mastery of a fighting system that rewards skilled gamers . . .

I've seen some of the games entered into this year's contest that did not win, like Duality ZF and Grapple Buggy, and all I can say is that the Indie Games channel is seriously heating up with some quality software.

No doubt many of the 350+ games entered into this year's contest will be making an appearance on Xbox 360's Indie Games channel sometime in the coming months. Now if only Indie Games could get Achievements and some proper marketing . . .

Inscrit depuis 6800 JoursAs for me, I want to like Avatar Golf; I really do. I have the (un)fortunate situation of having played Links 2004, last-gen on Xbox and was spoiled to death with the analog golf swing mechanic. A lot of golf games that I used to love the death, were completely ruined after playing Links 2004. The 'three tap' method is both unintuitive and antiquated in comparison, not to mention is no where near as skilled based. Links 2004's swing mechanic was and is truly the next generation game play mechanic needed to breathe new life back into the golf genre, and it is really hard going back to the two decade old, 'three tap' method after spending any amount of quality time with Links 2004.
I know Avatar Golf is nothing more than an indie developed golf title (albeit a very well made indie title). And in a world where even to this day, most professionally developed, multi-million dollar budget golf titles are stuck in the past with ancient play mechanics like the 'three tap' method, I should cut the developers of Avatar Golf some slack. However, having spent years playing Links 2004, I hate the 'three tap' method with a passion, and as much as I honestly try, simply can no longer derive any enjoyment or pleasure from playing golf games that use it.
No doubt the makers of Avatar Golf/Easy Golf are likely to make another sequel in a few months, so I think that I will take it upon myself to convince them to update their game play mechanic in time for the release of their next golf game.

College Lacrosse 2010
Beat Hazard
Platypus
Johnny Platform Saves Christmas!
SFG Soccer
Fishing Girl
Border Wars
Leave Home
Megalopolis
Sol Survivor
Streets of Fury
Party Boat
Head Shot 2
Ninja Bros.
Amniotic
Slingstar
Echoes+
City Rain
Antigrav Racing Championship
And I know that I have picked up a few more that were quality stuff. Of late Indie Games has really being showing the love, quite a few titles better than what you can get on XBLA or PSN, and that really has me surprised and delighted to no end.

Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursIn fact, by extension I think it's the future for "hardcore" gaming, period. I know that's a term associated with big budget titles, but if there's meaning in those terms it would have to point to the gamers that dig deeper, moving beyond the immediate surface. Big budget titles are rapidly becoming first and foremost about surface, about production values and hype, and for the things going on beneath it - or due to budget constraints, going on without much of a surface on top - the indie scene is cutting through all that fancy stuff and deliver compelling content on a reasonable schedule.
They can be small yet poignant, never needing to justify a 3 year dev cycle by attaching tons of redundant bullshit, or deep and sprawling, never having to bother with voicing every npc and drawing every narrative moment in lavish high definition cutscenes.
It is really the kind of cycle everything goes through. Things evolve, grow until they're nearly overgrown, and a small seed touches down a ways off, starting over.
Things like Rage and Crysis never managed to make me feel this certain that my old heap of junk computer needs an upgrade, but what's going on with the indie scene and with Steam feels important, pivotal even, and I really have to find a way to be a part of it.
