Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)
Loakum By FAR, the upcoming Game of Thrones King’s Road was the Game of the Show! It plays like God of War Ragnarok! :) (> 3 Months ago)

Since 7570 Days
Since 6980 DaysIn fact, by extension I think it's the future for "hardcore" gaming, period. I know that's a term associated with big budget titles, but if there's meaning in those terms it would have to point to the gamers that dig deeper, moving beyond the immediate surface. Big budget titles are rapidly becoming first and foremost about surface, about production values and hype, and for the things going on beneath it - or due to budget constraints, going on without much of a surface on top - the indie scene is cutting through all that fancy stuff and deliver compelling content on a reasonable schedule.
They can be small yet poignant, never needing to justify a 3 year dev cycle by attaching tons of redundant bullshit, or deep and sprawling, never having to bother with voicing every npc and drawing every narrative moment in lavish high definition cutscenes.
It is really the kind of cycle everything goes through. Things evolve, grow until they're nearly overgrown, and a small seed touches down a ways off, starting over.
Things like Rage and Crysis never managed to make me feel this certain that my old heap of junk computer needs an upgrade, but what's going on with the indie scene and with Steam feels important, pivotal even, and I really have to find a way to be a part of it.
gameplay gets you so far imo, and for the indie scene, it's typically where it starts and ends. some games like trine create a happy medium for me, where it's production values are high, while still being very much a low budget indie game. it manages to blend the lines between indie and big budget without losing the key elements of either.
ultimately i'd rather play the next uncharted then play the next trine tho. because i feel those big budget "core" titles are more well rounded. sure trine was a great game, but if it wasnt for the fact i got it for 7.99 i wouldnt have even bothered with it.
Since 6980 Dayspossibly the best news EVER
Since 7570 DaysSomeone here showed me a game, that was mostly black and white, 2-d platformer, with a rotating world space in which you needed to constantly keep up with.
Was that a PSP game? I'm trying for the life of me to remember which thread I saw it in or what it was called.
It totally had my brain by the stem though, really cool.

Since 7570 DaysToo bad there's no Windows announcement; I'd totally buy that game.
On the not so OT, I went on an Indie buying spree last night:
Braid
And Yet It Moves
Machinarium (finally)
and World of Goo
I actually already owned World of Goo but needed to buy again to get the Mac version for my nephew.
(I don't think there was a Mac version when I first bought it)
I hope his short attention span doesn't get in the way.
Like FreeSwag said, it's hard to keep up, but I'm going to keep exploring to see what kind of neat stuff is out there.
Since 6980 Dayscool dev interview of limbo. i seriously can't wait for it. kinda wished it was on PSN tho, purely cos i have barely any HDD space on my 360.
Since 7570 Daysgraphically the style is very much like Feist (at least Feist is coming out for Windows, damnit! Well, if it EVER comes out)
Gah! I want it!

Since 7599 DaysI've played the trial some on the 'box, but I can't really get a sense of how good it is as a game, how much it actually kinda "gets going" after the super short trial period. Has anyone played it?

Since 7103 DaysThe visuals sometimes get quite chaotic, and can't play much of the game in a row, or headache incoming.

Since 6980 Daysif it wasnt for the recent showing of LBP2, limbo would have been my most anticipated game for the rest of 2010...lol, i want it THAT much.
Since 7599 DaysEspecially if you have a broad taste in music, experimenting with different styles and moods changes up the tone of the game in a brilliant way. The underlying mechanics are really simple, and I was afraid that they'd be too simple, but it really is all about having a decent shot at keeping the song you feed it going, and if enemies were little GeoWars bastards that made that task really, really hard, it would probably just be frustrating.
I really like it personally. Like FireWire said it's not necessarily something you'll play a ton, but returning to it and trying different songs on it is absolutely worth the price of admission.
