Frozen Synapse is cool. I like this type of games where both players make their moves and then the game calculates and shows what happens. It creates interesting situations.

Yeah baby, Humble Bundle #4, and it's a really good one this time!

http://www.humblebundle.com/

Jamestown
Bit.Trip.Runner
Super Meat Boy
Shank
NightSky HD

and if you beat the average you get Cave Story + and Gratuitous Space Battles.

That's awesome!.... bought.
Can't wait for Jamestown and Cave Story +, specifically.

I already have most of that stuff and it's tempting for Cave Story+ and Shank alone. And Super Meat Boy is a friggin amazing game.

Currently on Steam, Cave Story + is $9.99, so you could beat the average on Humble Bundle and still save money.

Oh, and Shank is 14.99

I played a bit of Cave Story+ and have to say the gameplay is pretty damn good. I also love the musics.

The only indie game I like (or liked for 3 hours) was Limbo. This "indie" genre is vastly overrated and most of these games are utter crap.

Almost everything in the new humble bundle is better than Limbo. Super Meat Boy is 5000x better than Limbo. That is an actual statistic.

I don't know about that. They don't have the production values of AAA games obviously and a lot of them are just using the indie stamp to crank out and sell rather mediocre games, but there are gems among the indie titles as well. My favorite that i never shut up about is Penumbra/Amnesia, but there are obviously others too. Indie titles are great because taking a little risk doesn't have to be economical suicide, some times fresh interesting ideas or new takes on proven concepts pop up in indie titles, now how often do you see that in Uncharted, Gears or Call of Duty?

most of the games in the Humble Bundles are anything but mediocre... far better than that actually
Well, the first bundle was kinda lame, but that was before there was a set bar for quality.
Now, the independents are the place to get away from the same old boring stuff that the big wigs keep shoveling onto our plates.

I sometimes get nauseous when people even bring up Call of Duty anymore.

I didn't specifically mean the humble bundle, they have a lot of good games in between them, i just find there are tons of "indie" games that are just shitty platformers or puzzle games that really don't try to do anything aside from being a mediocre platformer or puzzler.

sweet.

I had to do some of that "trickery" to get Cave Story+ to run correctly.
Some liaison on the Steam forum put up a seemingly blank configuration file which made it all work.

by the time I found it I was on my way to bed, but I'm sure it's a great game ;)

Okay here's some more upcoming indie games that look more than promising;

Dear Esther
Dear Esther is a ghost story, told using first-person gaming technologies. Rather than traditional game-play the focus here is on exploration, uncovering the mystery of the island, of who you are and why you are here. Fragments of story are randomly uncovered when exploring the various locations of the island, making every each journey a unique experience. Dear Esther features a stunning, specially commissioned soundtrack from Jessica Curry.

Sound like it's like those old Myst and Riven games. Looks phenomonal though!

Dustforce

Clean up the world with style! As an acrobatic janitor, you are an adept force against dust and disorder. Leap and dash off walls and ceilings, and deftly traverse precarious environments. Cleanse each level swiftly and thoroughly to achieve mastery in this 2D sweep-'em-up platformer.

Looks a bit like a "Super Meatboy" gameplay wise. Simon has already purchased this game, so maybe he's willing to share some impressions...

***

PID

Pid is a platform adventure game in which the player is given a rich set of features that he must use and combine to survive in the world. A wide variety of fast paced action, puzzles and precision platforming forces the player to creatively master the tools at hand. Gameplay situations can always be solved in tons of alternative ways and the rich contrast between the different locations challenges the player to adapt to enemies that demands new strategies and methods.

Gunpoint

You're a freelance spy, infiltrating high security buildings with subterfuge, gratuitous face-punching, and an unusual type of electronic sabotage. You can cross-link things like light switches and doors so that the guards unwittingly take out their own security systems, their colleagues, and even themselves. It's pretty funny.

Looks very interesting, puzzle meets metroid?
Watch this walkthrough of some missions, trust me it's awesome and funny

Thanks man, I also will probably check out all of those games.

Last year was great for indie games and I've spent a lot of time on some of them (especially the binding of Isaac). Looks like there are more than enough interesting indie titles coming out this year...
