Impressive showing for the PS3. MGS4 pushed as much hardware as Halo 3 when it release. Amazing all around and definitely well deserved. Wii and DS are gods of course.
GTA4 disappeared pretty fast off that list, which is a surprise and the 360 took a pounding. I don't expect to see such a large deficit between the ps3 and 360 again though, especially after what went on at E3.

That walmart deal must have helped a lot. Before the deal ps3s were collecting dust. When the deal hit there were none to be found at walmart. + MGS4 did a lot.

It nice to see Sony at the top for once though :D

Microsoft's strategy is working if you look at the game's they've been getting partly due to their system's incredible software sales. Microsoft hasn't been properly punished for their pricing decisions just yet.
Those MGS4 bundles were very successful for Sony. Next month's sales will be the most interesting of all. Also expect Microsoft to point out that their sales for this month are an improvement over what they achieved same period last year.
Though, that still isn't saying much when you are outsold like this. When did the confirmed info on the price drop take place. Actually, that probably doesn't matter. MGS4 released and there were a lot of amazing deals going around.

Since 7468 DaysThey still have SOME hardcore titles that veteran gamers can get into, but some of their offerings are downright insulting to the masses, but it's making them money so that probably isn't a bad thing for them.
Hey, look at it like this, if Nintendo were doing what Sony and Microsoft were doing, then Microsoft would probably be in some serious trouble and wouldn't be landing the types of games they so Nintendo's new direction has always had a positive impact on Microsoft's success. I think this is especially true for the kinds of japanese titles the 360 is getting.

Since 7448 DaysThe good news is there actually seems to be room for all 3 consoles. Nintendo isn't cutting into core gamer sales, they found and created their own casual gamer base. Core gamers are generous enough to give both Microsoft and Sony respectable sales and healthy profits.
The bad news is that someone has to come in last place and that console no matter what kind of success it had will be branded this generation's loser.
- If the PS3 is the loser, Blu-ray will also lose right along with it and join the rest of Sony's failures in the format graveyard. The colossal debt from a losing console could force the Sony board to make a drastic decision concerning the future of the PS platform. However they could still come back for another generation, they still have name recognition and two winning generations behind them.
- It would be shocking at this point but if Nintendo's sales were to eventually drag down to where they are limping last across the finish line then all of the naysayers would have been correct about the public eventually losing interest and that the Wii was nothing more than a mass market toy with plenty of gimmicky gadgets to go alone with it. But then Nintendo would still be flush with cash, so they might give even less of a damn then they do now.
- If Microsoft is the loser they would suffer the greatest embarrassment. They had a one year leap, 2 fall/holiday seasons all to themselves, the majority of exclusives and the best selling 1st and 3rd party titles. For the most part they were given the opportunity to control their own fate this generation no matter what Nintendo or Sony did. After all of that, to have a 2nd console coming in last would be a disgrace worthy of fanboy mockery.
Since 7459 DaysI don't care what anyone says Blu-ray is here for the long haul now, the technology has pretty long legs even though they don't run so fast. :P

People are already using these services so they have a leg up on Blu-ray and could effect how well it's adopted. I don't think Blu-ray will ever have the same dominance that DVD enjoyed. But any early success that it has will depend upon it's most affordable player, the PS3. If the PS3 fails, what other way will Blu-ray penetrate the home movie market?
As for the consoles, there was a thread specific to this topic, I'll say the same thing I said in that one.
A PS console won't dictate format success anymore. Blu-ray could fade out as a movie market performer and yet still be adopted by the console manufacturers for the next gen successors to their platforms.

HD will be adopted more and more now simply becasue its nigh on impossible to buy anything other then a HD TV. consumers will want to take advantage of it, and buy a Hd player. that HD player will be blu ray. (or HD-DVD if your insane...lol)
Since 7133 DaysEven next gen, i doubt they will or could compete with MS or Sony in graphics.
When all think alike, no one is thinking very much.
Since 7506 DaysPS3 double following MGS4, very nice for them, some good news but, but let's if that holds up next month. I seriously doubt it.
It's time for a 360 price drop, that's for sure.
I cant wait for next month, I want to see the response to the GEGATON of FF13, will the 360 receive a bump in sales. I certainly think so. July is a very dead month though, not much is going to be released.

Since 7459 DaysThe massive difference this time (and its a huge one) is that the average consumer doesn't care about HD and are not ready to make the move, even if they own a HDTV.
I can probably count 5 people I know who own a HDTV but only watch SD content on it.
You can talk about digital distrubiton till the cows come home, but there is big difference in compression of a downloaded movie and a blu-ray movie, the main one being generally highly compressed picture, 720p only and no HD sound and hghly compressed 5.1 sound.
Plus DVD worked with old technology in mind, BR doesn't, to get the most out of BR you have to spend a great deal, the BR (PS3) player is probably the cheapest part , assuming you don't own a HDTV and perhaps an AV amplifer + speaker alread of course.
So yea Blu-ray has its work cut out for it we all knew this when it launched and we all know it now, the game has got easier with HD-DVD dropping out of the market but its still going to take a very long time before it becomes an accepted standard.
I don't think Sony imagined it would bring BR to the masses and we would all abondon DVD at the drop of a hat, it was a future investment and im sure at some point it will pay off.
