As long as it plays amazingly, I don't need groundbreaking animation. Considering the type of game this is, I'll give it a bit of leeway in the area of certain animations, as long as it isn't downright embarrassing. I wouldn't say what I've seen thus far is embarrassing.

The problem with having "great" animation that looks believable is that you have to sacrifice playability. In life you can't just change direction on the spot- which would add "frames" and gamers would throw a fit as usual. There is a balance though- Battlefield 3 pretty much nailed it, IMO- LOVE their animation system. Crysis does a decent job too. I don't mind having to plan my steps though, as that is gameplay in itself, even if most people don't see it that way.

Bungie has traditionally had pretty crappy animation on humans(Reach being a big step up, though).

I still think Grift gives Halo 4 so much grief because he is mainly an MP guy. OP (and myself) put SP over MP in Halo's case. I Love Halo CE, but 4 is just better, imo...

If you're into cinematics over gameplay, sure. Halo 4 is a pretty standard corridor romp. Albeit with overproduced cinemas and visuals. I say overproduced, since that's clearly where a major portion of the budget went. They had to farm out much of the rest of the game in order to get it out the door after all. Halo CE is a much better single player and co-op game. Halo 4 isn't even my favorite Halo campaign on Xbox 360.

And Halo is indeed the sum of its parts. 343 made 1/3rd of an okay Halo game.

But yes. The multiplayer game, a huge component to the haloverse, is pretty awful.

Well Bungie have always been avg in graphics and animation, but their gameplay\AI ect.. has been excellent!, so i have hope for this MMOish game but will need to see much much more, as for Halo 4 i have to agree, i enjoyed the campaign more than any other Halo campaign i've played.

I don't know, I thought it was much more than just cinemas and visuals. That story, particularly with regards to Master Chief and Cortana's characters, was handled better than I've seen in any previous Halo title. You don't have character development as strong as what's present in Halo 4 in other Halo games. I haven't seen it.

Watching Cortana struggle as she did while still trying to be useful to the Chief right down to the very last minute, while at the same time watching how the Chief tries to handle and come to grips with it all, in the process showing that he was much more than just the brilliant soldier that we all knew, but also a real human being with real feelings. We saw a side of the Chief that we've never quite seen before. Halo 4 dug deeper into the Master Chief. It made all the unbelievable stuff he did even more amazing, because you felt like you knew the man better. It's the entirety of what Halo 4 does, even the scene when Master Chief was telling that scientist that that all that she had been dedicating her life to, all the groundbreaking work she had been doing, had to be destroyed. You practically watch as the life drains from her face. You saw the Chief in many different lights in this game.

It was awesome watching the balancing act that was his duty to humanity and his duty to his closest friend, Cortana. Halo 4 is far from a corridor romp. That's too simple a classification. The game had all kinds of combat in a variety of locations, big, medium and small. However, I like that the game, true to Halo CE, understands that there are times when combat is best when in smaller locations, more focused locations. Some of the most memorable parts of Halo CE are actually enclosed, smaller fights, like on the pillar of autumn, or inside the covenant ship to try and rescue keyes. Even the night level leading to getting on the ship, it's all very tightly focused and not as wide open as you might think, like parts of Halo 4. Halo 4 is the spiritual successor to Halo CE in a way that no Halo game has been since. Gameplay was awesome, it had the best balance and variety of weapons in the franchise. The pacing was incredible. It had plenty for fanatics like myself who enjoy the books. The Didact was awesome and gave the Chief a true rival, not a pseudo rival. The Chief was up against a true legendary soldier like himself.

One weakness of Halo when It came to the 360, is that there was this feeling that every battle needed to be huge, but that isn't always the right way to go. The effort to make every battle larger and larger sometimes worked against the better interest of those gamaes. Well, just my opinion.

1) I disagree. The story isn't actually that great.
2) Yeah, storytelling is totally gameplay (sarcasm).
3) Removing all sense Halo's epic battlefields isn't good.

But we'll never agree. Because books. Write an essay about it.

I disagree. I go back and play HALO CE all the time. 4 doesn't have as open levels, but there are some decently large ones, and the gameplay is still faboo. CE had a pretty big share of corridoors as well. Spartan Ops really shows it imo. I don't play co-op much, but SPOPS is just pure gameplay for me( combat gameplay, anyway).

I Definitely agree that they dropped the Ball with MP, even though there is still much fun to be had...

I regularly compliment the gameplay aspects, too, but I think you disagree with those, too. :)

I had actually prepared a much longer post with actual examples, but then I thought to myself that it probably isn't worth it. I don't believe even you truly believe a lot of the things that you say about Halo 4. I believe you genuinely dislike what was done to the multiplayer, and, as such, unfairly take it out on the singleplayer. Gameplay, in many ways, is enhanced by story, and can be dragged down by story. They are not disconnected.

A big part of Halo is also the EXPERIENCE. It's a big part of what made Halo CE so damn good. Most of Halo 4's most stunning sights do not take place in "overproduced cinemas," they take place in actual, live gameplay. There were so many epic gameplay moments in this game that to even entertain the notion that the game somehow removed all sense of that is just not true. How anyone could look at some of the insane battles or vehicle based combat sections in this game and claim that all sense of Halo's epic battlefields has been removed, is nuts.

How have you utilized performance capture or new technology to work with the actors in this story?

Bungie has our own full-featured performance and motion capture studio on site, lovingly dubbed “Spandex Palace.” We’re not ready to crack the lid on the story, or our talented actors yet, but it’s something we’re looking forward to talking about in the future.
And here I was beginning to lose hope of there being a singleplayer story. Then again, story and actors can also just as easily mean quests and npc voices, but this gives me hope. What also jumped out at me was the following.
I hope gamers will put Destiny on the same shelf of great memories as they put amazing entertainment experiences like Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark or Lord of the Rings.
Some pretty big names there. Gets me thinking Halo style action shooter with a mix between traditional fps and Skyrim style methods of story progression, where you can also run into different players at almost anytime. Either way, damn ambitious.

There is already "mass halo" and when halo games are about to launch you have seen the "halo effect" on customers (or is that more the dew effect..)

Anyway Mass effect meeting Halo meeting "large open(ish) worlds" is not a bad thing :D

I'm actually shocked that you like it with all of its bullshit Call of Duty-isms and horrid level design. I disagree. I'm not saying 3/Reach are the best Halo games either. They're just.. better than 4. I just really hate all of the trend hopping progression; the ordinance drops; the weapons; the perks and the levels. There's really nothing there that grabs me. Halo was sort of the exception to the rule for me, since I mostly play PC games. Now I've lost all enthusiasm for the franchise.

To me, Halo 4 is what happens when you throw a bunch of money at an IP. You can manufacture a franchise, and you can polish anything. But there's not a lot of care taken in terms of game design. It seems like the entire budget was funneled into cinemas. The only thing 4 did right by me is hitscan weapons. And apparently that was enough for some people.

We've been down this road like a million times, but 343 has introduced a lot of the same philosophy into Halo that also killed Call of Duty for me. And 343 couldn't even knock this thing out themselves. They had to let "talent" like Digital Extremes build levels for them. Yeah, when you're going to DE for level design, that pretty much tells all.

Halo is dead to me, just like Call of Duty is dead to me, and for a lot of the same reasons. That may seem dramatic, but to each their own. I'm certainly not faulting your opinion.
