They have yet to announe anything for the PS3. I am guessing this project might be a PS3 one. Either way, I am excited :D

Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursPS3 and PSP SMT projects have been rumoured for yonks, so it'll be on one of those I'll bet.
Persona 4 (PS2) is coming out on December 9th yeah Alimo. Got it pre-ordered. :D
Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursIt's coming out in october in japan and fingers are thoroughly crossed for stateside release. Famitsu scans here!
Man it looks really really good! I love the 30s style of these games.
edit: Oh yeah and it's for PS2 of course, for those of you sensitive to that sort of news you might wanna.. pour a drink or something.
Inscrit depuis 7132 JoursI want next gen SMT game(((
Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursPersona is the most accessible of all of the SMT series and I think we'll see that franchise on the PS3 before long. This wasn't gonna be on there for a while, it's just too weird for the average consumer.
Inscrit depuis 7459 JoursAtlus you disappoint me !
And Simon Atlus are hardly a small indie developer, PS3 fans are craving for RPG's and all Atlus are giving them is PS2 titles, some might be happy with this, I imagine a lot of PS3 fans aren't though.
SMT games aren't all that niche either, and there is always the 360, 360 isn't all that costly to develop for, god if IdeaFactory can bring Spectral Force to the 360 amongst many of its other games then I'm sure as hell Atlus can.
There are a load of low budget JRPGs on the 360 (I don't wana have to list them :P)
It's not cost its laziness.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursDeveloping for 360/PS3 is waaaay more costly than PS2 even if you just take license costs into consideration. And sure, if you reckon Spectral Force lives up to people's lofty "next gen" expectations enough for sales to warrant that cost then more power to the likes of you.
The truth is that a ton of people have PS2s and these games look absolutely brilliant on that platform. License costs are low, distribution costs are low and it's a platform under much less scrutiny content wise, which is why they get away with all the smuttyness.
It's not their mistake, you just seem annoyed that you can't buy them in higher resolution and in another box. Get over it, is my advice to you, because you're just missing out on better RPGs than what you've been playing in HD so far.
This generational thinking is annoying me to be honest. I thought games had earned more credibility than to be discriminated based on platform gaps. Gaming becoming an accepted art form my ass if they can't even deal with something like this.
Inscrit depuis 7468 JoursBlue Dragon may have been setting out to tell a more lighthearted story that isn't quite as dark as things shown in an atlus title from the beginning, but it is without a doubt, every bit as high quality as an Atlus title.
Lost Odyssey is, without question, as strong as Atlus' latest. Haven't gotten the chance to play Persona 4 yet though.
It does suck that they aren't going PS3 or 360 with one of their games, but if they can't afford it, I guess they can't afford it. They definitely do have a big install base to draw from on the ps2 and I hope all these ps2 efforts are just something they are trying to get out of the way to get a bit of extra money in their pocket before they tackle a next gen game. I would like to not have to constantly bring out the ps2 when I want to play something new though.
I have one of the early ps3s, but I became cautious after multiple friend's ps3 screwed up on them as they were trying to play a ps2 title through BC.

Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursFor the titles to have a shot in the west, the audience has to be receptive, and they just aren't. Look at sales of SMT titles in the west on the PS2 even when that was the hottest thing around. They just aren't accessible enough.
Persona has gotten a bigger breakthrough for sure, and I think it's safe to assume that P5 is a PS3 title, but Devil Summoner? The thing is a 1930s detective story with weird cultural references and demonology and themes deeply rooted in asian mysticism. There's just no way in a billion years it was going on the 360, and the PS3 is still commercial suicide.
When PS3 sells properly, when there's a base for properly japanese niché RPGs on it, SMT games will migrate.

Inscrit depuis 7468 JoursWhat is happening now, however, couldn't have been predicted by anyone that wasn't a total fanboy. The 360 is easily the best next gen platform for jrpgs. It was one thing for MS published jrpgs to come to the platform, but another entirely for the 360 to get first and potentially exclusive treatment with games like tales of vesperia, infinite undiscovery and star ocean 4?
I even totally forgot about Final Fantasy XIII being day and date with the PS3 version.

Inscrit depuis 7459 JoursBut you are missing my point, Idea Factory are a very small developer they have brought out 3 360 titles to my knowledge so far, now I don't know how well they sold.
SMT does not have anywhere near the production value of a AAA title, not even close to something like a FF title, it has a higher production value that Spectral Force 3 however.
All I'm saying is that if Idea Factory can do it so can Atlus.
I believe Atlus of America are bringing Spectral Force 3 to the US so it can't of done that badly for them to pick it up and publish it in the west.
You may be sick of the lets go HD thing, but im sick of the whole lets stay in the past bullshit too.
I am annoyed because I don't want to buy a PS2 to play a "NEW" games and I probably wouldn't be so annoyed if the PS3's backward compatibility was half reliable, and YES i am also annoyed that the PS2's graphics suck (nothing I can do about that)
Now if you are satisfied with PS2 quality graphics thats fine, I am no graphics whore but I still like to see progress.
Much of SMT's lack of sales is due to Atlus being bad at advertising outside of Japan.
Most SMT games take 12-18 months to even hit Europe, which is just bad, by the time they get here people don't care anymore, Atlus only have themselves to blame for the lack of sales in the West.
Edit:- Oh also SMT games appeal to the hardcore gamer, most of which have probably moved over to a next gen console by this point, saying that an SMT game will selll better on a PS2 is daft, because the majority of PS2 gamers are not hardcore and there for do not care for a SMT game.
Plus I have no problem with a new SMT coming to Wii either, after all its a next gen console.

Inscrit depuis 7333 JoursIMO these 3rd party Japanese exclusive should do themselves a favor and release all these RPGs day and day multiplatform on PS360 or as PS2/Wii releases. There's no point in Persona 4 not being on Wii or releasing Last Remnant versions several months apart. It seems though that this generation caught these companies off guard and they are completely unprepared for multiplatform development.

Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursExclusivity still holds on FF13 in japan, and meanwhile ES and EA had PS3 versions IN JAPAN later on to increase sales.
I know everyone wanna wake up one morning and see the 360 become a PS2 with another logo on it, and I don't really know why anymore since I dropped my platform bias alltogether. It sometimes seems to me that people picked a platform and wanted it to be just like the other platform they didn't pick, when the other platform would've served them better to begin with. Of course usually things don't work out that way but this time Sony cocked up their PS3 business so hard from the start with a bajillion USB ports and sockets nobody used and a price tag that could kill a colony of burly Arnie sized men.
Regardless, much like Killzone 2 will never have FPS fans migrating from the 360 to the PS3 or even have them admitting that it looks sort of nice, likewise Sony's real audience aren't going to be easily convinced either. They will start buying the PS3 when the price is right (and if you look at some regions it seems people can stomach what they have to shell out for it now) and they'll expect it to provide the kind of experiences they've held out for.
Much like Nintendo has never really shaken their kiddy image despite having some of the hands down best hardcore titles around, the 360 will always be home to the multiplaying Gears of War crowd first and foremost, especially in the west where the platform is actually selling. This is why the 360 will never compell Atlus to invest in a next gen main series entry to SMT.
I wouldn't rule out a 360 Persona 5 though, because japanese pop culture is actually fairly embraced by us westerners too. Ubi did after all make a Naruto game.
As for the really dark juicy SMT stuff however, I wouldn't hold my breath. They'll rise in resolution in proportion to PS3 popularity I think.
Oh and Wii versions of the series is a strong possibility too I think. Hell, I'm ultimately putting almost all my faith in the Wii for the very survival of games with wacky japanese appeal. With the impending NEED for high budget games to sell worldwide I can't imagine anyone will take any risks to rub anyone the wrong way.
Inscrit depuis 7599 JoursBlah, I apologize if I'm being difficult today, I've had such a crap day. Try to weave respect and consideration and humbleness into my posts if they're lacking. :|
Inscrit depuis 7459 JoursIt's pretty fair to say that no console will have that kind of dominance again, unless something drastic happens like one of the main players leaving the hardware market.
I don't think PS2 fans (or even fanboys) looks at the PS3 with the same eyes they once had either, and nor do I think the 360 is anywhere near the Gears first and foremost crowd you claim it to be.
There is no denying that 360 is many many times more diverse than the Xbox was, and I think the 360 is becoming the JRPG platform of choice for many people.
I think the PS3 is a great piece of hardware but I think its almost impossible for Sony to come back and claim any kind of dominance over the market.
Yea Atlus might beable to play it safe for a little while on the PS2, but they will eventually need to make a choice.
Wii may seem like a good choice, but its bursting with casual gamers, so that not really a very compatible choice for one of their games (besides Persona perhaps)
PS3 is a possibilty as long as it picks up in sales and has enough JRPG fans on the system to warrent it.
360 IMO is the best because it is easier to develop for in comaprison to the PS3 and it has a fairly large JRPG fans base which is growing by the day.
The last option would be DS (PSP is just a piracy magnet), they would have to change their games quite a bit to work properly on a handheld and the games would probably suffer for it.
