Probably not the time for them to do this, but I hope at E3 they announce some games from Sakaguchi to go with scorpio. Sakaguchi games better get announced damn it!

If Xbox hadn't cancelled all their exclusives I might have been interested in getting a Scorpio for 4K blu-ray. I'll probably just pick up a One S for cheap this year.

Yeah I just wonder what the point is. A powerful Universal Windows Platform device that isn't a PC is just a PC limited to the Windows Store. Does that sound good to anyone? I think think that's one of the reasons UWP is such a hard sell for general audiences. I have my own reasons for hating it, but a less informed consumer still has to have a reason to want it. All of your software can tie into other Windows devices I don't have or want.. yay.

Maybe they'll change some minds. Probably not tomorrow morning.

On the other hand.. some people are pretty hyped apparently. For some reason :D

Holy shit Optimus returns. Nothing brings you back quite like a new Xbox, and the hopes and dreams of Japanese games that will never happen. Long time no see :)

I'm excited if only because I love shiny new hardware more than just about anyone. I'm not even going to consider buying the thing until they show off some new video games that make me want to buy it. If we get Halo 6, Gears 5, and Forza 42, count me out until Phil grows some nuts and takes chances on new IP.

I just wanna see what kind of hardware they could afford to put in this thing without breaking the bank. I'm assuming it'll be <$500, so it'll be fascinating to see what the final specs will be and how well it runs modern games at 4K.

i'm hoping they at least show something off that isn't pushing 4k resolution and is instead pushes poly count, texture res, volumetrics, screen space reflections, lighting and shadow quality etc. i want to see what this thing can do, i don't want to see it wasting it's oomph on a resolution boost, native or not.

Wouldn't expect it if they are gonna keep supporting the old xbone. The scorpio is supposed to be the equivalent of the PS4pro, no? With all games being compatible with both systems?

Its going to play Xbox One games at 4K, so... what you're looking for is not what this box is going to be.

i think you can be that while still upgrading the visuals. especially since it's so much more powerful. i mean, if PC can have graphical sliders that improve the appearance of a game and quality of its effects between low and ultra, i'd assume something standardized and "to the metal" as a console like scorpio could do that and then some.

People will care because they are console nutters, or they would probably be playing on PC already ;)

You work with 3D graphics though, KORN, i should think you would understand that going over all the models an extra pass to get more geometry detail for that, most likely rather small audience, will be a lot of extra work (and as such not worth the time). I mean, just imagine how much time doing one extra retopo, bake and skinning will take for barely noticeable results. I would at best expect higher res textures and more post processing. Not more polys or more advanced shaders.

And that said, i wouldn't realistically expect the Scorpio, any more than the PS4 pro, to be able to output amazing graphics at 4k anyway.

The Xbox fans that have been tortured pretty much all generation with inferior versions of games will finally get their sweet, sweet revenge on those filthy Playstation fanboys. That's who's going to care about this. There's gotta be 15-20 million people who will buy this thing over the course of the next two-three years. Easy.

It remains to be seen what kind of dent they can make in the PS4 juggernaut. I think they'll sell a decent amount and catch up a bit hopefully, but we might have to wait for next-gen to try and dethrone the current console king.

people are touting this thing to be the baseline for the following iterations of MS releases. as in, it's designed with future and backwards compatibility in mind from the outset. you'd think they'd aim to show something visible to the naked eye over a resolution boost that, compared with even the faked PSpro checkboarding is nigh on inconceivable. i mean, higher poly models, textures, effects etc do cost more to achieve, but they're selling a console that costs more to buy, and it's WAY easier to see the difference with those things then it is to see a jump from 1800p CBR to native 4k.

all i'm saying is if this is literally just xbone games at 4k, then what are people excited about? it sounds like the pro all over again.

i don't think it has a snowballs chance to sell that much. that's verging on the same sales figures the xbone has sold to date lol. even spencer himself doesn't expect big sales from it. it's aiming for a niche enthusiast market and that market is small. same was true for the pro. it'll sell 10 million if it's lucky because the fact is, 3 years into a console generation, the people still waiting to buy a console aren't the ones looking for power advantages. they just want a good library of games for the cheapest price. that's what launched PS2 sales into the stratosphere. MS know the competition will still very much be between baseline PS4, and baseline xbone. NOT the scorpio or the pro.

it'll sell a couple million to it's existing xbone owners initially...again, like the pro. and a slow trickly of sales as people replace broken systems with the scorpio.

MS need mainstream penetration at this point. not a $500 console that plays the same meager list of games.

it'll sell "ok" in the grand scheme of things considering what it is. it won't be selling 20 million in 2 years

last figure i heard was 238,000 PS4 Pros sold in December. at a guess i'd say 2 million as of now? it's not selling well compared to PS4, but it's not doing poorly for sony either. they say it's within their expectations which were obviously realistic, just like MS's are. it's not there to replace the cheap and cheerful baseline console and won't be selling anywhere close to it...ever. it's there for the die hard who really love forza halo and gears of war.

and for comparison, the same month of December the original PS4 sold 1.3 million.

yeah, because the baseline is just going to sit there at £200 while the pro and scorpio drop in price. lol. that new low pricepoint of the pro/scorpio in 2 years time will always be outshined by the new reduced pricepoint of the baseline systems. we're already talking £100 difference between the 2. probably even bigger between the scorpio on account of it being newer/better. that difference will always be there no matter how much time passes.
