It will eventually be their best selling version of the console as the price comes down, thats just how it works. They'll slowly phase out the original. Its going to sell a bunch, I'm tellin ya
How do you figure that? PS4 Pro will never overtake PS4 because it's got a massive head start and the price will drop along with it. Or did you mean that it'll eventually outsell the PS4 in the same time period? Both are bullhonky. Upsells don't replace standard SKUs like that. BULLHONKY I SAY!

Also poor Optims just came for some Xbox hype but got a PS4 War (PSW4r?) lol.

I don't mean outsell in terms of LTD, but best selling in relation to the other models out there. When the Scorpio hits $350 its going to be the only version people buy.

I really don't think it will. 4K adoption, and Microsoft putting their marketing dollars behind the more expensive unit. People gonna buy that Scorpio bro.

So what you're saying is that people who have a 4K TV who want to buy an Xbox will buy a Scorpio? I agree! But those people won't outnumber the ones buying One S. You can make an argument that it'll outnumber PS4 Pro sales since Sony stupidly doesn't play 4K Blu-ray.

You're just wrong here. 4K adoption is on a very brisk pace, technology moves forward man, that's just how it goes. I'm sure you were the guy saying nobody needed 1080p when we were all just fine with our 720p sets too. 4K is going mainstream already, and people are going to want 4K video game consoles at some point, and Microsoft will have the most compelling box (assuming they can make some good video games, which they haven't proven they can do lately).

will it become a mainstream media by PS5's launch? will we see more UHD blu rays than standard 1080p ones? the best selling media for movies is still DVD's for christ sake. a 4k drive isn't going to push anyone to buy shit. i mean, last i checked the xbone is still being outsold 2.1 despite having a 4k blu ray player. and while things will move towards 4k eventually, this gen, including scorpio will be dead platforms by then.

I'm excited to see what they name this thing.. Xbox One X (rumor I heard) seems really dope to me. Also excited to see if they stick with the white console color of the 360/Xbox One S, or go back to black, or try something new like a dark grey or something. Maybe they'll pull a nintendo and give us a dank neon color option :)

"Xbox One X" also sounds like "Xbox One S", so that might be a little confusing for consumers actually. Ya, maybe not the One X then. I think they might consider bringing back the "Xbox Elite" name and slapping it on this thing and abandoning whatever they currently have under that name.

i still don't get why a game they have running at 4k is being shown off at sub 1080p resolution?

also, apparently the extra power didn't allow them to have reflections past 4 cars. lol

People who think Scorpio will run PC ultra quality at 4k 60fps are deluded. It will definitely run games better than PS4 pro at 4k and I can see doing 4k native 30fps/60fps on some games, but not 4K PC Ultra quality.

So much wrong statements in this tread that I'm just going to go over a few, the most important, not all of them. Also, everyone should read the Digital Foundry articles, it takes a while, but it's more than worth if you don't wanna end up talking shit and looking like a fool because you're too lazy to read them.

Everyone has the right to choose what they want or don't want to read, but if you're going to talk about a subject, specially one with so many articles about it, you need to read the most important of these articles to have the least miminum knowledge required to form an informed and coherent opinion about said subject.

Megido: "I would at best expect higher res textures and more post processing. Not more polys or more advanced shaders. And that said, i wouldn't realistically expect the Scorpio, any more than the PS4 pro, to be able to output amazing graphics at 4k anyway."

Scorpio does indeed have advanced shaders, will have 4k Assets - at least for 1st-Party games, and since it was able to output at 4k60fps with Ultra Quality graphics settings on par with PC's Forza Motorsport 6 Apex's version with still 12% of GPU power left, it is indeed cappable of outputting amazing graphics at 4k.

KORNdog: "i mean, higher poly models, textures, effects etc do cost more to achieve, but they're selling a console that costs more to buy, and it's WAY easier to see the difference with those things then it is to see a jump from 1800p CBR to native 4k."

The Scorpio is indeed capable of delivering all these things, in comparison with XB1's games.

rayy: "People who think Scorpio will run PC ultra quality at 4k 60fps are deluded. It will definitely run games better than PS4 pro at 4k and I can see doing 4k native 30fps/60fps on some games, but not 4K PC Ultra quality."

From Digital Foundry: "The demo stacks up the maximum amount of cars and runs the full AI and physics simulations. It's a highly taxing stress test, used to enforce the strict budgets in Forza Motorsport to ensure the locked 60fps the series is famous for. The ForzaTech port to Scorpio took two days to complete and was fully performant from day one. In fact, the team can push ForzaTech to the equivalent of PC's ultra-level settings and we're still sitting at 88 per cent GPU utilisation; in terms of system utilisation, this is ballpark with Xbox One at 1080p on its default settings. Clearly this is just one game, but the point is that Scorpio doesn't just scale Xbox One engines to 4K. For the Forza engine at least, there's overhead, and plenty of it."

Please note the part: "In fact, the team can push ForzaTech to the equivalent of PC's ultra-level settings and we're still sitting at 88 per cent GPU utilisation".

Lastly, and least of all, 1GB of the 4GB of RAM reserved for Scorpio's Operating System is for 4k purposes.

also from DF:

"The bottom line is that Scorpio's six teraflops will almost certainly go a lot further than an equivalent PC part."

"PC games need to evolve to more efficiently address 4K, in order to bring down the cost of GPU hardware to effectively and consistently power an ultra HD screen with the latest games. The best console titles have led the way here, and it's a tradition we expect to see continue on Project Scorpio. If third-party games live up to the first-party results we have seen, where 900p and 1080p games scale up to native 4K, the comparisons with PC hardware will prove absolutely fascinating. If Scorpio's GPU can hold native 4K and hand in results on par or better than GTX 1070, this is a seriously good result for a console."

Yes, that catched my interest as well. Basically, developers don't optimize PC games very deep when it comes to 4k mode. Though, to be fair, the responsibility lies more with the hardware manufacterers than with developers. Still, if developers want, they can create custom modes for 4k that could help significantly reduce hardware taxing.

Since Microsoft chose to reveal all this info through Digital Foundry, I believe hundreds of thousands of developers will read these articles. And I really hope more and more they start using current techniques and creating new ones to deal with 4k mode in PC games.

Uh... so why aren't they?

Yeah... it better. A GTX 1070 is not exactly a 4K card. People with 4K desktop displays can afford 1080ti's and I'm not even sure we're there yet. Consoles are getting ahead of the hardware because of the demand for 4K output. In real life this is the Atari 2600 of 4K gaming.

What a GTX 1070 can do that Scorpio never will is output more than 60 fps.

You think more developers will read this info because it's on a popular video game site? I'm pretty sure they already have better reading material to give developers. And... they are. Where do you think Ubisoft's temporal projection technology came from? The need to output more pixels on consoles. It does the same thing on PC.

I'm sure you're right, but do you believe Microsoft sent all this info to mostly AAA developers and some special cases' indie developers, or do you believe they sent it to all developers around the word? If the latter, why wasn't all of this, or at least something leaked well in advance?

Don't overestimate Digital Foundry's recognition in the industry. When it comes to technical knowledge about consoles and PC hardware, they are either the best or one of the best. Which is exactly why Microsoft chose them for an exclusive and very in-depth look, talking with many hardware architect, engineers, and many high-level exeutives at Xbox and Microsoft in general.
