Launch 360 stuff looked great IMO, its all about expectations though, some people just have unrealistic ones.

Next gen will be different though mainly because the process of making games will translate easier.

As good as this game looks, we have been seeing graphics as good as this on PC for quite some time now. (in higher definition no less)
Launch 360 stuff did look great, but much greater then the best the original xbox had to offer? Not really. Aside from a resolution increase, was quake 4, perfect dark, or condemned really much better visually then say, doom 3, chaos theory or riddick? I don't think they where. Each console has those sort of games, the ones that are going to close the gap into next gen and make the jump seem smaller. For PS3 it's this, uncharted, killzone, god of war, beyond. it's great getting them this gen since you're seeing the true potential of a system, but it'll make next gen seem pointless for the first gen of games on that console. It wasn't untill gears of war of GRAW that you where seeing things that where way better then the original xbox. The same will be true for next gen. It's why i won't be picking up a 720 or PS4 on release. Not unless there is something truely mind blowing at launch.

You forgetting how awesome Kameo and PGR3 looked I guess.

Like I say though PS2 > PS3 saw a massive change in the way developers made games, not just programming but artistically also, that change won't be so obvious this time as games are made with HD assets and scaled down.

The only reason for next gen launch titles looking average will be lack of development time.

Of course if Sony decide to have some off the wall CPU again then I guess that will be another reason.

An example is Watchdog, if they manage to hit the target video that will be a fairly large jump over this game.

I don't really think watchdogs looks THAT great as a whole (certainly no samaritain demo). As an open world game (of which we have no evidence how open it actually is) it looks good. Big jump over say, red dead redemption? Not really. I don't think many launch games next gen will surpass this game by much. Very few developers are even close to ND when it comes to tech and polish. More power won't change that imo. It'll just make the cut corners more jaring. They'll have higher poly models and better shaders because they can, but higher powered consoles doesn't mean you'll have a great looking game, you ultimately still need the skill to make it look good, and majority devs out there, don't.

On consoles there really isn't anyone better. Eurogamers digital foundry think the same. I play uncharted games and visually, and especially polish wise, everything else seems second rate to the point it is actually difficult playing other games, theydid water, they nailed it, they did snow, they nailed it, they did sand, they naild it. The animations alone trounce everyone except maybe the euphoria engine, but that comes at the expense of control. But ND where kings on the PS2 as well with the jak series. First game to have a seamless, streaming world. Dunno what they're doing, or how they're doing it, but they're damn good at it.

I still say GoW3 and the coming GoW:A looks better and more impressive, SSM along with ND are among the very best I agree.

I've seen nothing that touches Crysis 3 on the consoles, thus far, but I agree that the first generation of nextgen games won't be that big a leap pass what we have now, but they never are. Now the 2con and 3rd generation nextgen title wow, my minds explodes at the potential.

I generally agree. ND has good tech, but it's mainly the artists, IMO. As far as other games looking as good, Halo 4 looks like it's gonna be pushing boundaries visually. The Gears series has always done a good job of keeping up (and yes, I've gone straight from playing Uncharted 2 to Gears 2).

The thing ND does so well is writing( dialogue) and making really great identifiable characters. The animation variety is also very nice, although I think Assassin's Creed competes well...

Hmm ... uncharted 3 looks fine and run great. Last of us will probably be better. ND games have lots of variety. Like in uncharted jungle, desert, water and so on ... So Last of us will be great too I am sure.

If you like great gfx you should play KZ3. This game has insane gfx. Even MP looks amazing not like other games including uncharted games which has poor gfx during MP compared to SP.

GOW3 and Castlevaia LOS are amazing games as well. LOS looks beautiful. Very underated game.

The Last of Us Graphic Novel Depicts Ellie's Origins

http://images.pushsquare.com/news/2012/10/the_last...

Calm before the storm
Naughty Dog’s teamed up with Dark Horse to create a graphic novel series based on upcoming PlayStation 3 survival horror, The Last of Us. The prequel will focus on protagonist Ellie’s life before the adventure, and will be penned by designer Neil Druckmann and Rachel Edidin, who previously contributed to Valve Presents: The Sacrifice and Other Steam-Powered Stories. The duo aim to explore the growth of Ellie’s character, as the teenager matures into a young woman in a post-apocalyptic world.

"In Ellie's world, when you enter into its version of middle school, you can either choose to become a soldier and go out and fight, or you can say no and go out to fend for yourself with the other survivors," Druckmann explained during a New York Comic Con panel overnight. "Those are the two ways a teenager can live in this world. Ellie believes there is a third way.”
He added: "Ellie is living in a world when she wants to be innocent, but can't be. She'll find things like a CD player and other pieces of civilization before the game's event. She'll get glimpses of the life she can't have."
In addition to the graphic novel, Dark Horse will also be publishing the official art book for The Last of Us.

And can we deduce that ellie is a playable character ? just saying :D

same with final fantasy on ps2 they used every trick in the book to make there games look as great as they could for the machine, specially the faces, and do not forget riddick on xbox 1 that was incredible when released.

And Sasanm dont get to excited over the graphic novel, they made 1 book for uncharted o.0 yes the book was fantastic and vastly more fleshed out than the games (duh) it sold well, and yet nothing else... and thats uncharted, I even spoke with the author to find out if they had contacted him regarding a new novel and he said contact just died.

So yeah will get 1 single graphic novel and that will be it.. for me if the material is good, i want MORE!

it will be more than one graphic novel ... according to the naughty dog sources they have two more, but they haven't confirmed it yet. hopefully TLOU is full potential in story line. and thanks to developers it will reach better sales than uncharted.

I can't anticipate anything about TLOU side novels ... but a rational mind says if the game is so important to ND so they should do something about it . and i guess they would.
