Inscrit depuis 8273 JoursThe only think that stood out as alarming was this, The source claimed that they had “witnessed Unreal Engine 3 demos running at a solid 60fps” on the device.
I thought the current Xbox 360 was capable of running Unreal Engine 3 games at 60fps. Maybe the source meant Unreal Engine 4. If the vids I've seen from Unreal Engine 4 are capable on the new Xbox, I'll be pleased.
All this Durango Orbis talk is getting me excited for GDC and E3.

The next Xbox will simply be called ‘Xbox’ and not the Xbox 720 as many had previously assumed, according to a report.
A source “very close to the project” has told Pocket-Lint that Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox would act as a hub for a number of other devices which will also hold the ‘X’ brand.
The source also claimed that the majority of leaked information surrounding the technical specifications of the upcoming console were also true.
Technical specs leaked earlier this week suggested the hardware will feature 8 CPU cores running at 1.6ghz, 8gb of DDR3 RAM and 12 shader cores.
The insider added however that each core would actually run at 1.9ghz, and also said “one benchmark used internally has been a custom build Watch Dogs E3 demo which runs at 55-to-60fps with only five cores at 100 per cent”.
One piece of hardware to adopt the ‘X’ brand and work in tandem with the next Xbox is a 7-inch gaming tablet called the X-Surface, which will allegedly not be a Windows 8 or Windows RT device.
The standalone tablet will not include its own apps, but will be able to access the games, music and video hubs of the next Xbox. The hardware will also not use a desktop, and will be solely focused on running console-quality games.
The source claimed that they had “witnessed Unreal Engine 3 demos running at a solid 60fps” on the device.
Inscrit depuis 7468 JoursI haven't heard about the 8 core cpu being more than 1.6ghz. I also, believe it or not, still have legit sources that say the gpu is going to be stronger than what has now become the popular and expected capability of the gpu by most that follow the leaks/rumors closely on the internet. I see little reason to think this will be the case from what has been leaked or put out there, but these are two pretty major developers, so I'm willing to hold out hope that the 720's gpu is even stronger, because at the end of the day not a single person here would mind either one of the two companies making their machines even stronger.
I haven't heard anything about any xbox tablet, but then I didn't exactly ask either, so who knows on that. And I don't know about the name, never really spent much time on that, either. Orbis is going to be pretty beast, too, from what I hear. Will have both on day one. I won't be missing out on either. People I've talked to told me that the next xbox would be stronger than the ps4, but that was a while back, and they give much less info on what they know about the ps4 now, and all rumors/information now from apparently legit sources, I guess, suggest that the PS4 made huge jumps in performance capability between dev kits, whereas the 720 has been dialed back some. I still hear though that the Xbox gpu, what will be expected final, nobody has actually gotten their hands on that yet. I don't know if that changed recently, but this was still apparently the case as of 2 weeks ago. However, all that said what the specs are, in my view, are of much less consequence, because the services and the games are what sells systems, not paper specs. I think once these systems are out and games start being put forward and people see how good those games look, and how crazy the games start looking once devs get a better handle on developing for the systems, discussion over which is stronger at what will matter less and less.
Saw that leak recently? Supposedly the next Xbox has HDMI in. No idea what it's for, but I hope this means you can probably connect your television dvr receivers into the new xbox directly, and then with the next Xbox directly connected to our tvs, start seeing some kind of unique xbox UI and OS features on top of our existing television service, and it could possibly all be controlled with the new kinect? Imagine how cool that would be. I know people buy systems for games, but I think this becoming more mainstream would move some systems. And, in my view, there's nothing more important than products and services. The industry can obviously no longer afford to be about pure gaming and nothing else, because these companies have all kinds of interests that go beyond what most core gamers think is satisfactory.
Raw gaming machines might be desirable, but that probably won't be what we get from either side.

Inscrit depuis 7468 JoursI'd also be lying if I said I didn't want to see some amazing features and services. I want the next xbox to be the incredible living room device that Microsoft likely will be hyping it to be.
Do I require to have all sorts of multi-tasking and app features be instantly accessible while I'm playing my games? No, not in the least. However, would I appreciate some cool touches that add to my overall experience, even if I won't necessarily use every single one of them? Absolutely. Choices and options has never, and will never be a bad thing.

Just call it Xbox 3 like normal people and be done with it, no need to complicate stuff.

In any case, i will always call it Xbox 3 or be as casual as possible...the new xbox :P
Inscrit depuis 7576 JoursWell shit. They should definitely not call it Xbox 3 then. They should call it Xbox a-fucking-million or some shit.
That's hilarious.
Inscrit depuis 7468 JoursIt's apparently exactly what the PS4 is using for a CPU as well. 8 core AMD 1.6ghz jaguar cpu. It does sound slow, sure, but then these are closed box environments and what the final specs for either of these machines might have been like on the pc, probably nothing too impressive, will likely be pretty damn powerful as far as dedicated consoles are concerned. We revisit this every new gen. These consoles will be capable of amazing things. Games will, when the devs have come to grips with the hardware, look far better than anything people were hoping we would or could get out of them, just as is now the case for the PS3 and 360. I remember when people looked at COD2 on the Xbox 360 with amazement, and rightfully so, as it was easily the 360's most impressive launch window title. The games on these current gen machines are now far beyond that now, however. Special shout out to Kameo :P
The new xbox apparently has 8GB of DDR3 and the PS4 has 4GB of GDDR5, and then apparently the new xbox has a similar, but much more useful fast memory implementation compared to the EDRAM used on the Xbox 360, and it's apparently 32MB this time, instead of the 10MB in the 360, along with a host of other improvements. The PS4 is apparently expected to have a monster gpu with additional stuff to help the gpu perform even better. There is conflicting information on the 720gpu. A lot of rumors suggest it's 600 flops weaker than the PS4 gpu, and then I have people I know that are in actual major development teams, first and third party, that say the 720 gpu is going to be much stronger than what has been reported. There has even been talk of dual gpu, but I don't know how to take that. That could simply just be a confusion of the information, I'm not sure, but it has been said nobody has gotten a hand on what will be the final xbox gpu yet, and what's out there is more the result of sony being ahead on delivering info and hardware on certain aspects of their system. Microsoft were apparently quicker at getting initial kit and information out to devs, sony was slower, and then sony started ramping things up like crazy, seemingly speeding past Microsoft on what initially seemed like an initial total beatdown specs wise, probably in response to some of the information on the next xbox, or more realistically just stuff that was always in the pipeline for sony, but they just weren't ready yet. Who knows. You even have sony saying recently that they won't go before Microsoft and reveal ps4 first, as they think Microsoft will look at their specs or something and 1 up them, which sounds crazy in itself, because you would think it's too late for all of that. But, clearly that suggests, on some high level, Sony is playing a bit of one-upmanship with MS over their next console.
Long story short, however, look at what the 360 and ps3 are doing with far weaker gpus, only 512MB of ram, and what should definitely be even weaker cpus. The PS4 and the next Xbox are going to be beasts, both of them. It will come down to, as always, which games, features and services do people prefer.

Why not just stick to Xbox 720? if they went with 360, 720 shouldnt be an issue. But I would think Xbox 720 would means now all their games is in 720p resolution hehe.
Inscrit depuis 7468 JoursI think the name will have something to do with some kind of windows 8 branding. And, personally, I'm now of the belief that Watch Dogs will never see release on the xbox or ps3. I think it's a next gen title all the way that was simply called a 360 and ps3 title for the simple fact that they couldn't yet acknowledge Durango and orbis. I think the same is likely to also be true for that new star wars game. Because, really, it isn't like they have some contract with gamers once they claim their game is for the 360 or ps3. They can just as easily say, "plans changed, they are now next gen titles." And who the hell launches such major new ip this late in the gen when new consoles are on the way?

Inscrit depuis 8273 JoursI'd say Xbox or Xbox Infinity.
My main concern is pulling off Unreal Engine 4 scale graphics with this new hardware... "Good Samaritan" demo type stuff is what I'm looking for.
Also remember Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 1, and the improvements with it on Xbox 360. I see Kinect and other things like interface speed and game launches to be significantly better this next go round.
Inscrit depuis 7468 JoursAnd unlike this gen, where multi-threaded programming and the massive jump in system resources led to much more being required to build a next gen title, developers are far more prepared this time around. So, while I expect a similar incredible jump between early xbox 720 and ps4 games as what we got on the 360 and ps3 further into their life, I suspect that we'll see a far more impressive use of the hardware of both systems on day one than was ever the case with the 360 and ps3.
In fact, I think Watch Dogs and that Star Wars game is what early 720 and ps4 games will look like. High end games, obviously. I'm so bullish about these machines because almost nobody thought we'd be seeing the level of graphics that we are seeing right now on the 360 and PS3. The PS3 gpu is like a weakened 7800 GTX and the Xbox 360 gpu is less advanced than the radeon hd 2000 series chips. Just think about that, and then look at Halo 4, Mass Effect 2 and 3, Bioshock, Gears, and a number of other games on the platform. Weaker 7800GTX for ps3 gives us uncharted, killzone, last of us, God of War.
We are in for a treat with both of these machines. I remember being stunned the first time I saw how good COD4 looked. I was so excited the first time I saw how good that looked on the 360, coming from COD2, a time when we, well I, seriously doubted that we could get something to look that good and maintain 60fps on the 360 and PS3.
lol, someone frauded that info.
