i think everything has been reactionary.

i think the initial rumoured specs for both 720 and PS4 where "real", PS4 was suposed to have 4gig of GDDR5, and the 720 was originally the 8 gig of DDR3, 1.2TF machine with 3 gig reserved for OS and aps etc. BUT, sony saw those rumoured specs, freaked out a little bit since it had more ram (even though slower) and boosted it to 8gig of GDDR5 (this explains how NO-ONE knew about the avaliable RAM, not even first part devs), and i think MS will have done the same in reaction to sony's reaction. i genuinely doubt it'll be pushing 4.9TF, but it's be interesting if it did. but i don't think MS's specs will be the same as what we knew and what the likes of eurogamer are considering legit. it'll be improved, the question is, by how much?

This is going to be the worst day of all. A list of specs being posted every few minutes, whole communities of people chasing every tweet, and alot of trolls sitting back laughing as they watch the rumors they've created become epic monstrosities.

And at the end.........there will be crows.

Yea, seen the thread aswell, a lot of grasping at straws. The specs range from 1.2TF gpu 8GB RAM to 4.9TF something with 12GB RAM. Certain things like the RAM increase are doable if the base spec was the original leak, even replacing the gpu is doable. I mean they were developing around 2.5 TF gpu for a while so there is potential that they had multiple designs for the console and could choose which to use depending on what sony announced.
So devkits have been distributed so late or in end of Feb after PS4 reveal ? Which is not possible. EA, Activision and all other big studio have 720 devkits for sometime surely. Otherwise 720 will be released in 2014 and pretty much all games delayed.

Improving specs are always possible, provided the chips are the same they should be able to run the game at at least the same framerate as the specs they were designed on. It's like adding more RAM and a better gpu of the same generation / manufacturer in a PC, youre still gonna run the same games but better.

The dev kits WERE rumoured to contain 2.5TF gpus in the past, then at some point it was downgraded or false rumours spread about 1.2TF.

At this stage we dont really know what to believe, what changed, when it changed, what was planned etc. We do know the ps4 specs and they are massively more impressive than the durango rumoured specs from last year, MS cant afford to release a console that is massively underpowered.

I just hope it's not called the Xbox Now!. Uggh, that is a horrible name. Almost as bad as Wii. It'll certainly be called Xbox then, lol.

I does make me wonder if the original leaks were purposeful to keep people (and the competition) off the scent of what they are doing. It is ridiculous how many different rumors there are the day before the reveal. You'd think they'd be getting closer to the real thing.

@Korndog- If the result of being reactionary is forcing these companies to provide higher spec machines, then I say it's a great thing!!!

I think the specs were fixed long time back and it is already out to the devs. They can just upgrade ram like the PS4 or overclock it. For last six months or even for a year it is no longer possible to change it and PS4 had nothing to do with their own plans. They probably knew little bit what they were doing.

it needs to be bundled for me to bother with illumiroom. it's a cool idea. but i imagine it'll be a stand alone puchase, and an expensive one at that and probably won't be supported by all games.

Well, it at the very least needs a projector with a camera, so youre looking at several hundred dollars just for the illumiroom without a console. Then you need a console that can feed it, essentially you need a second xbox to drive the extra display area, think of it like rendering in 3d. It will eat performance to drive it.

Games of different gen so not comparable. But it is will be intresting what they will do with Forza.

Everyone is expecting Microsoft to surprise. I am so curious to know.
