And right on queue, Optimus tells us that things that are worse than we're used to are actually a good thing.
Not really, my point is why would I be bothered by used games -- if all accurate -- when I buy all my games new and insist on doing it that way? The used games market or industry isn't something I'm personally "used to" taking part in, at least not where it concerns money being exchanged to buy or sell a pre-owned game. Sure, this may cramp my ability to lend my games to friends or family every now and then, but speaking of delusional (Tomaru), in the very article where they practically confirm that always online is technically not true, and is a decision left up to developers, he comes away saying that everything said about always online is true? Come on. Online registration isn't about always online or persistent online, it's about used games.

Developers, if they wish to take advantage of Azure, can choose to make their games require a persistent connection. And what does Sony's shares have to do with anything? Stocks rise and fall all the time for any number of reasons. And Sony's stock is being used as an argument against Microsoft? Seriously? Sony's stock? Well, let me restrain myself :D

Microsoft's stock goes up and down everyday. Come on, you aren't telling me anything that I don't already know. Microsoft has its hands in many pies, my friend. Microsoft's stock on any given day is affected by a number of factors far exceeding what might be able to impact Sony's stock, or the stock of a lot of other companies. In fact, there are times when a stock drop to a particular company has nothing at all to do with their own personal outlook, but when there's concern or anticipation of a downturn or shortage in another sector that spooks certain investors. Stock go up and down. News at 11.

Also keep in mind that the next Xbox coming with a Blu Ray player can be seen as a "win" for Sony.

I think the fact those stock changes happened during the MS conference is a little bit more then just "standard stock fluctuations" it was clearly a result of the direction MS have taken. But if you choose not to believe that...so be it.

Op yeah Microsoft stocks goes down and up every time, but exactly after a BIG REVEAL like this it shouldn't go down, and 8% is a lot. This mean investor doesn't have confidence on this new Xbox.

LOL. No, it isn't "all true." Developer's have a choice. Most, if not all, may choose not to. And used games aren't something I see as that big a deal. I like to buy my games new. Practically 100% of the games I've bought on Wii, 360 and PS3, are all games that I bought new, with the exception of Naruto: Broken Bonds (sequel to Rise of a Ninja from Ubisoft), and I did so with tons of hesitation because they didn't have a new copy in Gamestop. However, if accurate, I guess that would put a damper on my ability to lend friends and family my games. Not something I do, too often (although there are tremendous spikes at times depending on the game), but it's always nice to know that you can. I don't have an issue with online registration of titles. In fact, I always expected that there would be one time online activations.
Man that is so wack. Doesn't make any sense, you get a game for 7 days to try out at Gamestop and return for full refund (no questions asked)...or 30 days to exchange for another 100% working game. Why the hell would I spend 60$ for a game just for the shrink wrap...or worse, buy it for 50$ off the xbox marketplace, even a year after release, because they monopolize prices and never give legit deals...especially while the used game can be found used for 35$ or on craigslist for 25$. They don't even match the marketplace place price with the retail game stores! And then they have the nerve to tell me I get exclusive access to be the first to PAY for the new CODghosts dlc. I'm pretty sure that first dlc should be part of the game in the first place. We all have a right to buy a game and put it in any xbox to play it, or give it to a friend. So why would we give up that right as a nice gesture. They're pissing down your back and telling you it's raining homie.

LOL Kudos for throwing DBZ in somewhere ;) Cause we're both just sayin for two entirely different reasons. On one end it's to imply that one company is in serious trouble and the other on the upswing, on the next it's to imply that people are overreacting and there's no "there" there.

Rayy, Microsoft's stock has risen and fallen after many big reveals in the past. Even sometimes after major Office related events, and Office is king at Microsoft currently. This might sound good for game forum back and forth, but it's largely people talking about things that they don't follow often enough to know how crazy half the things they are saying truly are.

Korn, forgive me if I don't think Microsoft is doomed due to a common everyday up and down shift in their stock price. Sony's, at the least, is clearly unusual, but their stock is also over 100% strong year to date, compared to Microsoft's which is 30% better year to date, so this sudden momentum by Sony's stock isn't entirely attributable to Microsoft. Give Sony some more credit than that. Their supply side business isn't exactly doing too bad for itself.

Lol I made a mistake I though Tomarru was saying Microsoft stocks went 8% down. He was saying Sony went up. Microsoft is a -0.66% which is normal.

Edit: Op even though I just missread what Tomarru say, stocks going down after a big reveal is always bad. It always mean investor doesn't have confidence on this new reveal. It didn't happen with Microsoft though I just missread Tomarru.

When did i say MS was doomed because of some stock changes? As i said, the fluctuations aren't what's telling. It's the TIMING of them. You'd have to really believe in coincidence to brush off those stock changes as just standard fluctuations. They happened for a reason.

Yea, that's all I'm saying. Microsoft's stock acting like that is normal. If, for example, there's concern over the move to cloud over on premises servers, Microsoft's stock will drop, even though they also happen to have one of the biggest cloud businesses out there. Microsoft's stock isn't so cut and dry is what I'm saying. Microsoft has a solid on premises server business, too, but where they're headed, which is to the cloud, having a very positive outlook can hurt them also, because it implies a downturn in their more traditional server business.

I don't know the reason for Sony's stock increase, but next gen xbox coming with Blu Ray after Sony bet so big on Blu Ray could be seen as more than a symbolic victory for Sony. Remember that whole Blu ray vs HD-DVD flap? Well, what can be more significant than Microsoft's adoption of Blu Ray after that little back and forth? Sony, I also believe on the manufacturing supply side of things, is one of the biggest suppliers of parts tied to Blu Ray. I'd have to check to make sure, but I think it's something alone those lines.

Trust me, Microsoft are use to it by now. Happened with Office 365, I believe, definitely happened with Windows 8. Happened initially with the 360. Happened with the Surface. Investors are cautious with any new Microsoft venture, but usually come earnings reports time, Microsoft tends to sometimes quell the concern with strong earnings, even if not necessarily always in the area that concerned investors in the first place. That said, as I've already pointed out in this thread, Sony's event was more geared towards the core gamer, and I even expected that Microsoft's event would be something along these lines, where they mostly talk about the vision and to the tech and investor crowd. E3, in Microsoft's words, is all about the games.

I thought it looked awesome. The TV stuff is actually more exciting to me than any of the "game" stuff they showed. Its pretty obvious that they are way behind in development if this all they could show us.

And to those of you looking at MSFT's price drop on the nasdaq... u realize prices are built in before announcements right? I own MSFT stock and it jumped from $28 to $36 in the last few months. They are doing quite awesome. If you don't understand how the stock market works then u probably shouldnt be talking about it.

No reaction means investor are on a wait a see stand. Though it still show some lack of confidence, but nothing mayor as I though. At E3 is probably where we will be seeing some stocks fluctuation.

They did say E3 is all about games and that there would be tons of exclusives and world premiers. Don't forget they also confirmed 15 exclusives in the first year of the new xbox, and that 8 of them would be new ips. (I'm sure Kinect titles are in there somewhere, however.)

So, I'm not the only person impressed with the tv stuff. I also thought it being demonstrated like it was with Kinect on the new Xbox was the most impressive part of the overall event. The most interesting and exciting part to me was Remedy's new game. The biggest surprise was Spielberg and Halo tv series. Wondering what that's about.

Whoa, did people think Microsoft was handing people a television service? The whole point of HDMI-IN is to use your existing cable tv provider's HDMI receiver together with the new Xbox. Don't tell me this surprises you :D

Can we talk about how AWFUL their naming scheme has been? Xbox > Xbox 360 > Xbox One. Just a terrible job by them.
