The TV stuff only works in america, and even then you need a cable box the equivalent of a sky TV receiver or virgin media box.

All the instant switching channels and guides were bollocks as it basically routes the commands to the cable box which returns the info to the xbox. So the slowest link in the chain is the shitty cheap cable box that takes 3 or 4 seconds to scroll through the guide pages and randomly crashes or hangs.

How so? Sony only showed killzone and two game trailers, dose that mean there behind as well on games.
That means BOTH didn't show anything good gaming wise. Well at least for me. Though I did like Sony conference more in term of consoles features and it was more toward gamers than Microsoft. All this TV + Kinect thing was really boring and not appealing for me. Also the possible no used game for me is a bad thing to.

Consoles reveals should always be more toward gamer than other things. Why because the people who care about this TV stuff usually are not watching this reveals.

Whoa, did people think Microsoft was handing people a television service? The whole point of HDMI-IN is to use your existing cable tv provider's HDMI receiver together with the new Xbox. Don't tell me this surprises you :D
What's the point of it replacing my DVR if I have to plug my DVR into it? I expected they would be offering TiVo like capability built in. They lauded it as "The one device you need".

I dont know... im super intrigued about the way it controls television and stuff. If it actually works that well it could be a game changer
Don't you mean a TV changer .. you know like a remote control .. urghh nevermind.

Anyways wasn't expecting much from this and that's what we got pretty much, unless MS work miracles at E3 I won't even consider getting an Xbox one (seriously MS is that the best name you could come up with)

Was it just me or did none of the game reveals have any real time graphics, all looked CGI to me, at least Sony showed what appeared to be in game footage.

Yea a couple times the TV woman said Xbox, I wasn't sure if she meant Xbox one or Xbox or Xbox 1 or just Xbox in general.

Sony event: Actual live demo of gameplay footage on stage, which was nice. Both with Watch Dogs and with Killzone. I don't like Killzone, but real games footage that's live and in the moment does count a great deal.

Microsoft event: Actual live demo of the console interface, features, services. Sony's were mostly video form. I was genuinely impressed by the console in action and how it works with television viewing. Also think the console looks pretty badass. I'm cautiously optimistic about the trigger change, however.

Microsoft showed glimpses of Forza 5, confirmed it for launch. Teased a new Remedy game (this is huge for me imo) The rest were trailers for EA games that I'm mostly not positively experienced with (putting it lightly), with the exception that I love Fifa to death. I also give the latest Madden some props. It was pretty solid. NBA Live? *Cough* NBA 2K is KING *Cough*. Microsoft's event was solid and I feel got the main point across, that this is a versatile, do it all system that also happens to play the big games. However, as a side note, they did say that E3 would be all about the games and exclusives and world premieres, and this was just part one of a two stage reveal plan with us getting the rest of the picture at E3.

More like the one device you need to compliment or "complete" your own personal entertainment experience, whatever that might be. If you don't have a tv service of some kind, then obviously you can't take advantage of all the cool television integration stuff they showed, but you can still use the console for the other available features or services that are on there. I was genuinely impressed with how well Kinect works as a consumer device on the new system. The voice and gesture stuff was all very well done and pretty fast and responsive.

Yea OP I don't think Forza and Remedy game were in game, just looked like standard CGI teasers to me.

The EA sport stuff could have been in game but I was thinking diminishing returns there as I couldn't tell, I remember NBA somethingoranother when the 360 was launched and it knocked my socks off, but what I saw in that video didn't have the same impact.

Max Payne wasn't that good, either, name wise. Alan Wake was a much better name, though.

I think all the EA stuff was mostly pre-rendered in-engine. Quantum Break, most likely the same, but it isn't so much whether it was gameplay or pre-rendered trailer, but more the fact that Remedy is developing yet another major game, which I'm really excited about after Alan Wake. And it seems like it could be interesting. Seems some kind of supernatural power thing going on perhaps, mixed in with more real life style combat. I got the impression of their being multiple controllable characters. I'm thinking infamous meets uncharted meets max payne and alan wake, with a possibility of some heavy rain tossed in, at least based on how it was described prior to it being shown.

lol how did you get all of that from a boat crashing into a bridge and a guy standing and staring at something with a gun in his hand?

Guy staring at something with a gun in his hand struck me as a cop or something, and that he was a playable character. He didn't seem all that "special." He probably plays more like a normal human character in a shootout, or something akin to max payne or alan wake. Alan Wake, contrary to how it was advertised, is a more competent action shooter than some might otherwise think. However, there's a scene with a guy appearing to create a massive shatter or crater in the ground with his momentum. The looks of it didn't appear as if it was due to what was happening around him. He seemed like he was the direct cause of it, as if he had special powers of some kind. And he also looked quite different from the guy staring and holding the gun, unless I missed something. And clearly that little girl had creepy, special powers. There's something weird about her. It actually reminded me of the ps3 game beyond two souls.

Also, the heavy rain part comes from the description prior where they talk about the decisions you make changing how things play out and the whole making it sound like you're playing some kind of movie, and then followed shortly afterwards by a live action scene, which may or may not be in the actual game.

Sony wasent stupid enough to show the console itself or its interface and such, they are obviously saving for E3 to steal the show with release date, price probably, console itself, and its OS design...etc.

Sony did the right thing to focus on the controller functions since thats new and focus along with games they did show off the new "concept" PSN how sharing and such work and they focused on the best thing which was the obvious stuff...live demos, tech demos, specs and constantly focusing and talking about upcoming games and the functions of controller and PS4 can do with the games.

Interface on consoles can be anything, who cares as long as its not a giant mess and can navigate, its nothing special.
They didnt talk about anything about game features if the console has anything new.

MS kept going on TV and sports nonsense that majority dont care nor will get outside US.
Then tons of Kinect stupidity, and then tech demo type trailers with probably in-game engine of 2 games and one of them was garbage which is obviously COD.
I cant see how anyone can justify MS did a decent job at all for this event...only thing was they showed Xbox, which they should also have waited for E3 to keep some expense like Sony.

In the air vents, obviously. I say Microsoft did a solid job, because I think they more or less did what they came to do. In fairness, that isn't something that people should automatically give Microsoft credit for, but the writing was on the wall as to what kind of event this would be. The time it was held, what was said in the podcast prior to it, and particularly that E3 would be all about the games with tons of exclusives and world premieres.

The focus at this event was on their overall vision of the console and to show off some of its high profile features and services and how it all comes together, while still pointing out that high profile games are important. Forza 5 at launch says that, COD (I know :P) says that. Fifa says that, but then they also showcase that they aren't neglecting first party and point out that they have 15 exclusives coming to the system in the first year with 8 of them being new IP. We don't know if that Remedy game is one of them, but it could be. They were also careful to point out that they have more studios working on exclusive content for the system than any other time in Xbox's existence. Sure, Kinect titles are likely in there somewhere, but they have time to show us what they are doing, and E3 is around the corner. And the biggest thing of all that jumped out to me, but got no major focus at all, was that there was a very, very colorful looking game running in the background during some of this conference that looks like something you would expect from Rare, and I think they are clearly saving whatever that was for E3. I hope that wasn't a tech demo, but is actually a new Kameo or something like it.

Although, it's completely fair if people say they should have done more on the game side for this event, but they've decided to save all that for E3. It makes sense to not blow their load or reveal too many surprises this close to E3. Sony themselves didn't reveal too much of what they were doing either, outside of the obvious, but it was indeed more gamer focused. Now if come E3 they don't clearly showcase that they are aggressive and mean business about gaming, then I'll throw up my flamesuit :P

The good thing was the did show the console it self and said many exclusive games are coming. I guess that also includes Kinect games. Very focused toward media, 3 OS. Did not go into details with specs. I think both of these were sort of expected.

So unless the XBOX1 has a better video card, the ps4 will presumably be the more powerful of the two seeing as they are using 8GB ddr3 for ram vs 8GB gddr5. I cant wait for the console wars to fire up again, shits gonna get funny

I don't see why people hold showing the console so highly we all know its guna be a box most likely black from either company.

One thing MS did poorly was explain the "Architecture" didn't give us a CPU speed or the amount of cores, didn't indicate what type of GPU how many transistors or flops, I felt Sony did a much better job in explaining the hardware than MS did.

Which leads me to believe that Xbox One may not be as powerful as PS4 and MS were just trying to hide this fact, probably goes without saying considering they are more interested in home entertainment these days than gaming.

The Xbox One operating system looks really solid but how much ram will that use I wonder lol.
