Controller breakdown... too bad it's not a playable model

http://kotaku.com/the-tiny-cool-details-of-the-new...

I really don't like where the triggers are moving. The bumpers were already largely unused for me, and putting the triggers up there just seems like a bad idea.
My fingers don't naturally go there like they say in the vid. My fingers are naturally on the back of the controller not the top. And the battery issue was never an issue so who cares about that.
Also every new console controller claims to have a good d-pad for fighters. But have they ever?

I don't think you have to be jaded to dislike what we know has been confirmed by MS themselves. Things are turning out worse than we've had this generation of consoles, and Optimus wants to blame it on our "expectations".

-Used game discs cannot be shared outside of digital rights management method (yet to be detailed) [fee requirement confirmed]
-Games will require mandatory internet connection to be registered to XBL accounts (it may not be ALWAYS ON but it's ALWAYS REQUIRED)
-Kinect is mandatory, if disconnected the XO will not function (I guess this is to discourage people from selling, but what if it breaks lol)
-Xbox, Xbox 360, XBLA games not compatible (I personally don't find this to be an issue as long as the 360 continues -RRoD-. The XBLA thing I expected would have emulation due to restrictions placed early on but eh)

At best Microsoft is out of touch. I expect E3 to bring the games, but this event has gone the opposite direction for them as far as hype goes.

The surprise was there was no surprise. lol.

Thanks to vgleaks for giving us specs. Because Microsoft were trying their best to hide it. Contorller is more bigger, fatter ?

E3 is going to be so fun.

LOL

Watch 2-3 games being proper exclusive non-Kinect game at E3 that isnt anything special but the rest will be Kinect or DLC stuff.
After this event and all these after announcements, MS slipped up badly and E3 wont be anything good coming from them other than gameplay.

I honestly think they made their biggest mistake this gen by relying so heavily on 3rd parties and having no new compelling software that they can call exclusive to their system. Now they're playing catch-up and its good to see they're trying.. but PS4 is going to win a lot of the hardcore crowd back because they know Sony is targeting them directly. And as we all know, the hardcore crowd are the early adopters that will buy these things at $499 or whatever they will be.

MS has to clear up the second hand games and backwards compatibility confusion ASAP. E3 will make or break the next Xbox. Show us those 15 exclusive games ( minus all the Kinect crap) and then we can judge for ourselves.

I think everyone needs to chill around here and stop jumping to conclusions just yet.

It's not confusion when it has already been confirmed directly by Microsoft. Backwards compatibility isn't even possible or in the works according to VP Marc Whitten. It's counter intuitive to their plan of selling their new 360 models. All games require registration online and the only way to play a game is to login directly with an account that owns it. I don't think it could be any clearer.

Kinect 2.0 genuinely looks impressive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi5kMNfgDS4

I just don't want it always on, listening and watching me, and I sure as hell don't want to always have it be connected to use the XO. Now that it will have official PC support maybe we'll get those non-gaming innovations Tinks and Optimus drool over and whatnot.

I can see this damaging 360 sales aswell, surely anyone on the fence about which console to get would run a fucking mile from anything MS now.

Can't wait to see the used game market next gen, GAME selling used games for £35 then go home, pop it in the machine and it asks for another £20. Be cheaper to buy it new, be cheaper to buy it on PS4.

if they only saw the reveal they might not even know about all the BS surrounding the console since non of it was mentioned on stage. the console is the #1 pre-ordered item at shopto(UK retailer) so people obviously want it. maybe they didn't hear about all the negatives though?

if sony is smart, all they need to do is change their stance on used game blocking from "publisher choice" to "we allow all used games".

If this isn't Always Online DRM, it's too close for comfort http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require-internet-c...
Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?

Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.

http://gamersyde.com/pop_images_forza_motorsport_5...

Crazy.

Anyway. I feel that there is still a lot of jumping to conclusions and looking for the worst going on. Sure, that is certainly mainly MS's fault for not being more specific, but I think too many people are just too damn jaded.

I really do wish they showed more games, but I get that you don't want to blow your wad before E3. I'm very intrigued by the machine as a whole, and the footage they showed- if real- demonstrates that it's certainly no slouch on the power front. The way different components can work together will certainly make the console comparisons interesting.

Personally, I love the entertainment extras and the Kinect interface. I currently use it with the 360 all the time when I'm not gaming. Whether I'm checking vids on Youtube while I clean up, or folding clothes or some such everyday life chore, I very much enjoy my voice controls. I am all for a more precise and powerful experience with it.

I know people say that you can just use a button press or controller for navigation, but I don't even have to turn my controller on. I say a few phrases and get where I need much quicker than scrolling now a days, and its nice not to track down remotes. Its pretty great to me, and I know it isn't really game related, but I love that functionality.

As for the used game issue, I think we have to see, but I've seen many older 360 and xbox games in the Live store for about what I'd pay at a used game store already, so It's not as big a deal to me.

I think I'll reserve my outrage till after I see what the big two have at E3...
Looks crazy good! :)

Games are what really matter to and thus far Forza and the Remedy game have me sold, cant wait untill E3 need to see what else both camps have to offer, plus the 3rd parties.

Quantum Break is kinda the most compelling new first party software announced for either the PS4 or Xbox One. The fact is Microsoft, even without having Sony's lineup of first parties, has consistently had strong First Party content for all their consoles, even going back to the original xbox. So, it's interesting that people suddenly believe that this is somehow going to change on the new Xbox when Microsoft's commitment to software and the starting of studios to create first party content has never looked more aggressive. I mean, do people even realize that one of the most heavily talked about PS4 games shown and that has people going crazy the most is actually a third party game from Capcom? And speaking of First Parties, there's so much irony involved about what's present in Microsoft's first party stable. As funny as this may sound, the only true Final Fantasy game this entire generation is an exclusive on the Xbox 360 called Lost Odyssey. That's an idea of the wild ebb and flow of Microsoft's first party. You never know what you're going to get. They lost their focus on new stuff later into the 360 gen, but now we are seeing small signs that they were more busy than people think.

I don't think Sony needs to win back any hardcore gamers, because they never truly lost them in any significant numbers in the first place. You don't do all of what Sony did with the ps2 and still end up with as many consoles sold as they did without very loyal gamers and a lot of hardcores having your back. Even with all the supposed mistakes that Sony made, the PS3 is still a worldwide success. How do people think consoles hit the 100 million mark or reach as high as 70 million? It's largely due to a crap ton of the people that so called "hardcore gamers" don't even consider real gamers, because they put a high premium on games like NBA 2K, GTA, COD, Madden, Fifa etc. So called hardcore gamers think most people really care about the idea of an exclusive, when in reality most don't care in the least. They just want whichever game catches their fancy, and if it happens to be exclusive to a particular system, then naturally they gravitate towards that system, but they wouldn't somehow be any more or less intrigued by the game if it were also released on another system. The majority of gamers I'm describing are the folks who hardcore gamers sit there in total disbelief of, wondering who the hell is still buying a ps2 this late in the game or who the hell is still buying the Xbox 360 or DS lite. They think that everybody who wants an Xbox 360 or PS2 should have already had one by then, but still the sales persisted continued anyway. These people that more or less round out a platform's userbase are even more crucial than the hardcore early adopters, and always will be. The hardcores always grab the next big system or next set of big systems, but those gamers that round out the userbase are the ones who decides who gets to be the market leader.

The system isn't as weak as some think, but then that was always going to be obvious. Potentially weaker than the PS4 isn't the same as being a weak system, but many are still treating it that way for some odd reason.

I don't see what the big deal is with Kinect, personally. Does it really need to be built into the console to be a required part of the system's operation? You aren't forced to use it as displayed today, but a lot of hard work would go down the drain if people didn't at least have a guaranteed opportunity to take advantage of it if they so desire. You can still use the controller if you so please. Some appear to hate it, but I thought what was shown yesterday of Kinect's use was damn impressive and really intuitive. It was as impressive a demonstration of a console's capabilities and features outside of gaming as it gets, and so I'm giving credit to what was an amazing live demonstration.

Yea, the event wasn't very gamer centric or games heavy and they were too cryptic about the specs when they implied we'd learn all about it, but I think it's extremely smart to save all their best shots for E3. Can you imagine if Microsoft unloaded the best they had at this event, only to go into E3 with nothing new or big to show, and Sony just killing it in their conference, which you know they will? It would be a bigger disaster. I've looked into all the things about this new system, and I'm not flipping out over any of it. Even this 24 hour check in thing, if it happens, that's like, what, 5 seconds of your internet connection's time out of 24 hours? Come on. And used game discs on a drm management and being tied to a user account I see as being similar to Steam, except you're doing it for the first time with console game discs bought at retail.

Another big misconception I've read is that users or family that have different accounts on the exact same xbox where a particular game has been registered can't play that game if they aren't the original owner, but that's not true. People in the same household using the same Xbox One, can play every game registered on every account on that console, regardless if their account wasn't the one that registered the game. If a particular live account with certain digital rights to games is on two separate consoles, it's first come first serve if both consoles are attempting to play a game while each system is online. Users would be able to conceivably get away with having an account on two different xbox consoles while offline for at least about 24 hours, until a check in is required.

I also don't see the game discs as useless after you register them once, because as pointed out, every game exists on the cloud, so if you sign in somewhere else and want to access your games on the cloud, the disc would be a better solution to use for installation on the spot, rather than downloading it from Microsoft's servers to install on the new xbox you're accessing your account from. You save yourself time by using the disc to install, so I don't see the discs as totally useless once you use them once, at least not for the owner of the disc anyway. Either way, I'm done talking about this stuff. I'll just focus on the games and other features of the system and let the chips fall where they may. People should make up their own minds. If the console's features are too big of an inconvenience, then there are other options. :)

The problem is, that its been suggested that the XO won't even function without the kinect, the console is always on/sleep mode and the kinect is always on, sorry but I dont' like any of that.

It's one thing yo have an optional device and another to force one on your consumer.

MS did a very poor job of clearing a lot of things up yesterday, I'm sure these rumours will sort themselves out before/after E3 but right now the event so far seems to have put out more negative spin than positive.
