If your TV camera stops working will it stop letting you watch TV?

And covering up the follow-up accessory to the most over-heated console of all-time is a terrible idea!

Let's say I have a kid in the room and they like to repeat what I say and they start saying things that make the Kinect switch on, off, turn channels, games, movies, Netflix whatever. There's a lot of instances where I don't want this thing to be on, Kinected, or remember it exists.

Look, if you want to say you think Microsoft just got confused when they confirmed all these details that's fine. But pretending that they're benefits to me is ridiculous.

What if covering the camera with a blanket = no input and causes the system to stop working though ?

Not to mention is a pain in the ass to do that and kind of a fire hazard lol.

Hey, it might break, isn't a good argument. I'm sorry. Do you own a baseball hat of some kind? A towel? Cover it, it can't see you. Make it stare directly at a wall. Covering it would even help muffle it's ability to hear.... These conspiracy theories are just crazy. It all sounds like invented outrage. There are more valid things to be ticked off about. Kinect being mandatory? I don't think that's one.

This is a more valid argument than It's watching and listening at least. But look at it like this, you may or may not be convinced by the system, and if you don't end up being convinced, then obviously you may not have to worry about this scenario. However, if you do end up seeing something you like between now and launch, I trust you'll be creative enough to solve the problem :) Honestly, even I'm wondering where I'd put that thing. I'm not going to joke. I don't have a clear idea yet lol.

Games are what really matter to and thus far Forza and the Remedy game have me sold, cant wait untill E3 need to see what else both camps have to offer, plus the 3rd parties.

My thoughts exactly, i want to know what i will be playing to have a reason to shell out for a console, and what both camps show at e3 will be the decider.

Well, hopefully, and Microsoft at the very least most people can attest to this, are at least decent with options on the xbox 360 right now, so maybe they issue a dashboard update of some kind that allows people who aren't interested in using Kinect, to disable it's ability to listen and watch. I just see Kinect as something that they have to push if they are going to have it, and they have to initially make it seem an inseparable part of the system, and then from there introduce options to deal with customer concerns.

Then everyone will want a new xbox to get in on the class action lawsuit :P Yea, might be a fire hazard to cover it. I mean, in reality, the risk of you being watched by someone is no greater or less compared to a smartphone with a camera, a tv with a camera, or even a laptop or tablet with a camera that faces the user. Microsoft is notoriously careful about these kinds of things. They will have done their due diligence to make sure they aren't at risk of legal repercussions.

Trust me Ops, where good games go, i go.
And so far MS hasent done anything to strengthen their franchise library its Halo and Gears thats it. And since I focus only on action games be it 3rd or sci FPS I havent seen anything else from them even on 360.

Sony is going to go with a bang with Last of Us which is a new IP for Ps3 before all the top dog devs go to PS4. And since MS is focusing on american audience with Tv and sports boredom I dont see anything special...so far. Though i am excited for e3 for multiple reasons one of them being these "15 exclusives" MS said but I dont hold my breath. Waiting more from Sony console reveal their games and the big one, Lords of Shadow 2 gameplay!

That being said, I barely fit both Ps3 and 360 on my tv stand, I do plan on selling my Ps3 a few months before PS4 (or Xbox) arrives, but the size of Xbox is TOO big and on addition with that Kinect gimmick bullshit I will never use no matter how good it is implement (just like I hate 3D with a passion), its impossible to do anything for me. If Kinect isnt needed if they said that at E3 then MAYBE i can do something but if its forced, well then can fuck off lol

Looking at my tv stand now its not possible and that wont change since my room isnt big and i dont plan on swapping out my tv stand.
So in the end, yes it IS bad news since people want less cables, less devices and hope for more All-In-One type of thing, not bigger, more cables and more devices.

Each new news MS is putting out they are cutting themselves deeper until E3 which probably be end of it all if they fail to announce big stuff which is AAA games exclusives and hopefully go damage control and disconfirm some of these news with used games and kinect.

I hate typing long stuff, this is my last one on this matter :P

In fairness, they aren't entirely doing nothing. Remedy are a talented, top tier developer, and they just announced a game that looks like it may have serious potential. new IP. Microsoft also stated on stage that they have 8 new IP coming in the first year of the system, 15 exclusives overall. Sure, some Kinect titles will probably be in there, but what if over 5 or more are legitimate full on new ip? It ultimately comes down to what games appeal to you personally, though.

I mean all this other feature stuff is one thing, but at the end of the day, it will come down to the games, as it always does.

On the first matter, Eagle was as concise as it's possible to be. The "policies" by which the system will be governed are still being finalised, but the message was simple and definitive: "We are building the Xbox One to support the trading and re-selling of used games. We are working through the policies of how that will work right now, but we will not block used games."

They aren't blocking used games no, but aren't they planning on charging for used games to be activated, something like £20/$20 ?

By the time you factor in the cost of buying the game second hand and that on top you are close to the price of a new game.

That's my impression of what they're trying to do. Not trying to go half way or some of the ways on entertainment, but to do something pretty impressive and at a very high level, while also showing that they can still punch with the heavyweights in the area of gaming, too, as demanded by gamers. Even without liking this event, that entertainment stuff was pretty slick looking. I was genuinely impressed by it. A decent bit of time was spent showing it off, and while it took time away from what people wanted to see, they've started the conversation they said they wanted to, and they mostly made their point about the tv and entertainment side of things, and now they need to make the point about gaming at E3.

Microsoft when aggressive is always never easily counted out and I think this will be shown at E3.

So just finished watching the whole show, the TV stuff was cool but dose not really interest me, the Kinect looks very impressive, the console itself looks good but not great, and to hear that Forza 5 will be a launch game is great! and the new IP looks very interesting also, the Sports games and COD did not interest me, but it will for millions of others. E3 looks to be the battle ground for games and i cant wait to see how it ends up, from the 2 reveals Forza 5 launch has me most excited.

I haven't got into much details but used games will work fine as long as you sell or give it your friend and sing in to you account and disable it. So that he can register on his account. That is how it works if I understand it. One good thing I liked is that you can install the game and do not worry about the disk. As long as you are online once every 24hrs which is reasonable.

I thought Alan Wake was boring and i didnt finish it, so Remedy doesnt do anything for me, and I already stated what type of games I like so I doubt Ms will do anything to secure that type...except maybe sci fi shooter since MS is known for.

Like I said, I need to know what these 15 exclusives are and they said they will reveal them at E3 so now its just a waiting game for me. But for the console itself and its features, I hate it.

FWIW Sath going from that PS4 teaser video its going to be just as big as the Xbox One.

They aren't blocking used games no, but aren't they planning on charging for used games to be activated, something like £20/$20 ?

By the time you factor in the cost of buying the game second hand and that on top you are close to the price of a new game.

Well videos can make consoles look big since they keep zooming in and out, rotating, having the controller next to it and event hands...etc. But yes that looked big but it was a blurry black squared box so I cant say anything about it until E3 when they reveal it.

In fairness, they aren't entirely doing nothing. Remedy are a talented, top tier developer, and they just announced a game that looks like it may have serious potential. new IP. Microsoft also stated on stage that they have 8 new IP coming in the first year of the system, 15 exclusives overall. Sure, some Kinect titles will probably be in there, but what if over 5 or more are legitimate full on new ip? It ultimately comes down to what games appeal to you personally, though. [/quote]

I thought Alan Wake was boring and i didnt finish it, so Remedy doesnt do anything for me, and I already stated what type of games I like so I doubt Ms will do anything to secure that type...except maybe sci fi shooter since MS is known for.

Like I said, I need to know what these 15 exclusives are and they said they will reveal them at E3 so now its just a waiting game for me. But for the console itself and its features, I hate it.

What we want to try and do is more than that, and we have a box that can do more than that without compromising being the best games console out there.

We purposefully did not target the highest-end graphics, we targeted more as a broad entertainment play and did it in an intelligent way.

Sounds contradictory to me. By devoting all kinds of time and money to developing Kinect tech and adding in this TV integration, the gaming aspect certainly sounds like it could suffer.

That leads to a few obvious and immediate applications: All your downloaded and installed games and achievements are synced to the cloud and can be accessed and played without interruption on any Xbox One you sign in to; stable, dedicated servers for every multiplayer game rather than the notoriously fragile practice of hosting matches on one participant’s console; even multiplayer matches that can grow to 64, even 128 participants, rather than the usual limit of 16 or 32.

But other possibilities also come to mind. If developers are able to offload significant chunks of processing power to the cloud—conceivably even fundamental game mechanics like physics engines or collision-detection systems—that frees them to use local processing for even more intensive processes. In other words, the possibilities are limited only by the imaginations of thousands of game programmers. “It’s not like on day one, everyone will have figured out how to take advantage of that power,” Whitten says. “It’s just one of those stakes we’re placing.”

Seems they have a legit working cloud rendering system, too, if developers decide to take advantage of it.
