The head of CD Projekt RED, Adam Badowski, says that The Witcher 3 will release on, as Game Informer puts it, all top of the line consoles and PC in 2014. This seems to suggest The Witcher 3 will be looking beyond the current crop of consoles, especially as the magazine cites it as "a next generation RPG" on the cover.

According to Game Informer the open world in The Witcher 3 is 30 times larger than the previous game, which will make it even bigger than Skyrim.

Free expansion packs will release after the launch of Wild Hunt next year, akin to The Witcher 2's continuous, free post-release support.

Wild Hunt isn't broken up into acts, as the REDengine 3 permits the exploration of a vast, open-world without loading screen interruptions. Enemies won't scale to Geralt's level, though, so you can wander into territory filled with too-tough monsters who will wreck our intrepid hero. Along the way, you can expect to encounter friendlies and enemies in a dynamic world affected by unpredictable weather, including randomly generated storms, and water physics while sailing.

Fast travel is a go, and Geralt can mount horses for both transportation and combat.

Geralt will play the part of monster-hunter and detective throughout his quests, which developer CDP claims will occupy more than 100 hours of players' time. He'll have almost five times the amount of unique character animations, too.

Each new area of the game – Skellige, the metropolis of Novigrad, and "No Man's Land" – has its own story. Non-linear storytelling with branching paths dictates that avoiding the central plot of seeking out Geralt's lost love, Triss Merigold, will have ramifications.

In combat, you can interrupt attack animations to dodge or block, which depletes stamina. Dodging isn't a big somersault anymore, however – Geralt pivots to evade attacks while maintaining the momentum of a fight. Enemy AI has been retooled as well, and quick-time events are out entirely.
Cool Picture.

This is what it's all about. Soon we won't have to bother with spec sheets or leaks, we'll be dealing with the games themselves. :)
- The team felt it missed the huge freedom of open-world games like Skyrim
- Proper mounted combat still being tested
- Currently not a definite part of the game
- Horses will be in, though, since they’re important for navigation
- Ships float on the water in true physics interactions
- Team has doubled in size
- No chapters, acts, or any artificial break-points
- Geralt can seamlessly cross from one end of the world to the other thanks to REDengine 3
- No loading screens while traveling in the open world
- Can explore on foot, by horseback, and via boat
- Pursue yor long-lost love, play the game of empires on behalf of the northern kingdoms that still claim independence, and thwart the nefarious Wild Hunt
- Fast travel: instantly revisit any discovered location
- Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz: “A huge goal is to keep the high quality o four quests, with all the cinematics and impressive events and moments.”
- Point of interest will always be in sight
- Players will be beckoned to explore dank caves, embattled villages, decaying ruins, etc.
- Over 100 hours of hand-scripted quests
- Quests: help villagers, engineer the succession of the Skellige kings, etc.
- Use monster hunting for adventure, incoming, and unique rewards
- There are mini-games based on the area of the world
- Ex: Skellige has knife-throwing
- Gain exclusive rewards from mini-games
- Don’t have to complete mini-games to proceed in the story
- Monsters, bandits, traders, animals, and more will attack anyone they deem hostile
- Enemies don’t scale to the player’s level
- Slaying monsters, fighting hostile humans in the different forms they come in, collecting items, leveling up are in the game
- World 40 times larger than the last game
- Three different aspects to narration
- Lowest level: free-form activities like monster hunting, crafting, individual standalone quests
- Second step: political situation and Nilfgaardian invasion is resolved through the core plotline of the major areas (Skellige, Novigrad, No Man’s Land)
- Each land has its own storyline
- Can abandon the storyline, but will have repercussions later
- Not doing a plotline is a choice the player has
- Main narrative: search for Geralt’s loved ones and conflict with the Wild Hunt
- Multiple branches of narratives that feed into each other
- Don’t have to do anything outside the main storyline to beat the game
- Could have help in a main-line encounter from an ally you gained in the Skellige archipelago if you’ve completed certain quests in certain ways
- Major events in the main storyline are “gates” for the state of the world
- Ex: village threatened by bandits might be abandoned after certain events if the player doesn’t help
- Weather effects are dynamically generated and fully modeled as real volumetric clouds rather than being simply painted on the skybox
- In contrast to the last game, Geralt encounters communities and individuals with monster-related problems that need solving
- There aren’t contract-like assignments this time
- Press the left trigger to turn on Geralt’s witcher senses
- Can glean information from a crime scene upon discovering it
- Within range of a scene of interest, the mechanic conveys clues to the player through the witcher muttering to himself and/or visual depictions of past events that represent Geralt’s reasoning
- Time of day and other conditions determine where monsters appear and their abilities
- Can strike critical areas in combat based on how much you learn about monster anatomy and tactics
- The team is deciding between using a handful of in-combat special moves for particular attacks and a slow-motion quick-time event style
- Monsters you defeat leave otherwise unobtainable alchemical and crafting ingrediants needed for making of unique items, potions, mutagens
- These allow Geralt to gain special powers and upgrades in the new mutation development tree
- These kills serve as the witcher’s primary method of income

Fix the combat and i will be interested.
By fix i mean fix the hit detection and feedback since Witcher 2 was very inconsistent.

Kinda wished you'd stop calling everything that might make the combat feel less satiosfying for you "Hit Detection". There was no problem with the hit detection in witcher 2, nor were there any problems with feedback. They did however have a tremendous issue with balancing the combat, where some stuff was just by far more useful than others.

Or did you really feel that your attacks often just passed through enemies, or that the obvious sounds and animations of hitting and/or blocking were not enough?

@Megido

It is hit detection problem, when you hit something and enemies dont react it its a problem. Or when they attack you with a sword and you roll out of the way and not close to the attack you still get hit. its inconsistent thats what it is.
So yeah, in such games combat is important considering thats how you level up in the game period. Sorry for not having a shitty standard in one thing that makes the gameplay actually matter.

Nah. If the sword doesn't hack off a limb, and blood doesn't gush out in torrential downpour, and the foe doesn't swear death upon your entire clan, then it's a hit detection problem :P.

I played a bit of PC version and 360, same thing. Its buggy IMO and if they dont fix the combat to my standard for an action RPG then i wont play it.

Not really sure what you are expecting but the fighting is slower and more methodical than Ninja Gaiden or something like that and as far as action RPGs go i think Witcher2 did a decent job.

I dont say copy off NG combat...did I even mention any other title? so why bring it up because i liked the series.

It is "decent" that could be better with better hit detection if they work more on it, i need more than "decent" to enjoy such a game were you have to fight enemies to level up.

You get almost no EXP at all from fighting enemies, you get XP from completing quests and defeating bosses mainly. At least 90% of your net XP will be from quests and bosses. Also, if it has bad hit detection, please show a video example of it cause i've played through the game like 3 or 4 times now and it's never been an issue for me, and i love action games like DMC and NG and i love fighters, so i'd say i'm well aware of the iomportance of the game actually detecting your inputs and giving you feedback. That's one of the points i think this game delivers on if anything.

I brought up Ninja Gaiden because as soon as you play a game with a action focus that's not flipping out like a ninja on speed you think the hit detection is shit or it's boring or something. I'm telling you that's not really an issue with this game and i think you might have unrealistic expectations of it, or that you want it to be something that it's not.

Not having invincibility frames in a roll is not bad hit detection, that is just you being used to invincibility frames and they ask you to have timing instead. Big difference. Also if you slam your sword in to an enemy shield, you stagger. Not them. Makes sense. If you hit an enemy you have a little gush of blood, a clear sound effect and a stagger animation on them, what more do you bloody need? You want them to stop, hold up a bright pink cue-card that says "i'm hit!", then stand around for a bit before slowly putting it away? :P

this is pretty much why i think this idea of "perfect" hit detection is just as flawed as a game with non. staggering breaks the flow of combat. and would be either masively frustrating if you're being hit, since you could fall into an endless loop of staggers and being hit, and staggering and being hit etc. but it could also make the game pathetically easy for the same reasons if you hit an enemy only for him to stagger, then be hit, then stagger, then be hit. you need at least SOME "bad hit detection" to retain the flow of combat. make it fair, keep it challenging, stop it being frustrating.

demon's souls/dark souls is a game with great hit detection, but it's stamina meter prevents it from damaging the flow of combat. but as we all know sath isn't a fan of that either.

I only played to the part were you talk the dwarf in a bar, forging silver sword, talking to the mayer?...that village. I even beated that big swamp monster as well.
So i am not exactly sure how the overal XP point goes nor did i have enough time to invest to upgrade the attacks and damages...etc.

The hit detection sometimes, rarely registers from what i played but yes most of the time the enemies reacted perfectly to the attacks.

And yes, I rather have superhuman abilities that is speedy with exagerated moves than having realistic behavior, i find them more fun and unique, something i prefer anytime, but thats obviously what i wasent nor expect to happen in Witcher, and dont want it since thats not the type they are going for so i accept that since there are other games for that sort of thing.

Now it may be some bug issue or something for the hit detection i dont know, but it was annoying to me.

The whole staggering, I am perfectly fine with it since it makes sense why heavy armored enemies with shields or claymores is blocking your attacks, I never brought it up since it didnt bother me.

So then i still don't get what it is that is bothering you. That you aim is shit? That there aren't any invincibility frames? You just say the hit detection is crap, and i just don't see what you mean. The game registers your moves in combat perfectly, with perhaps some flaws in awkward situations that make the engine kinda muck up, but that happens in every game.

This all conversation made no sense whatsoever Sath come on man.

You don't like it and that's fine but there ain't nothing wrong with it.

There is nothing wrong with the hit detection in TW2, there is however some bug that appears rarely that sometimes the attacks don't register but I have always said its some kind of bug and not a combat system problem.

In fact I think TW2 combat system is one of the best for a RPG that is, is closer to Souls series and still mantains its own identity of strategy and positioning, I like it very much.

WIth this game they will make openworld finally, what I wanted, I can't wait though I still don't know for what system I will buy this if I even have a new system by then when it releases.

Sounds like Sath just wants to feel better when he kills someone.
Unfortunately for you this game isn't based completely around combat and killing people. It's why Megido brought up NG. This is the style of Witcher, and it's a choice they made.

Hit detection is when a game doesn't register your blow or damage to the enemy. It's much different than what you're trying to say. It's a technical problem not a stylistic choice.
Like in NS2 you can tell when you're shooting some dude and it's not doing anything 3 out of 5 times. That is hit detection.

I guess you are right Tinks.

I still got my copy of Witcher 2 on 360 so I will give it another go maybe it will grow on me if i give it enough time and start leveling up more, kind of lower my standard for what the genre is. I really want to like it though since this is the only action RPG fantasy that appeals to me the most, especially after seeing those Witcher 3 images, the locations and art is awesome.
They seem to have gone with the norse/viking style now with snow environment also in something I always prefer but never gotten (Skyrim was boring to me). You can tell from the looks of the ship designs and the enemy designs it has that viking vibe going on http://www.swiftpic.net/511199fa9e6ec3.72684051
