Dont tell the mass effect fanboys, they'll complain.
They will complain its not gay enough, or they cant touch the sides on the"fleshlite" built into the front where the disk drive used to be.

16 core processor... no word on the amount of RAM in this rumor...
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/343191/next-x...

I do think an SSD would be smart. Perhaps a hard-drive SSD hybrid setup. Store the game on the Bluray or Hard Drive, then transfer it to the SSD while playing or active.

16 cores... 4 cores are supposedly devoted the the Kinect2.

Finger tracking capability with multiple players.

Things aren't looking good for Sony.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/11/business/global/...

I think they'll hopefully come out OK, and we'll see a PS4. Microsoft for sure needs the competition.

Gaming side of Sony should be ok, I still think launching Vita was a big mistake. All the time and money wasted on a handheld should have gone to PS4's R&D and budget. Terrible move

HDD wont be standard again, and there will be two options standard and SSD and the SSD prices (assuming they wont let us use standard off the shelf again) will be extortion

also imagine a world with just MS and ninty at the helm of gaming *shudders* apple will have there foot in the door faster than using steve jobs death as free marketing.

the only thing a SSD is good for is OS booting and initial program launches. I tried Windows 8 at my dad's office and thought it booted super fast no SSD required. For gaming...load times are becoming shorter and shorter. I mean Wake BF3 takes 5 seconds to load

SSD would work much different on a closed system.

It would be amazing for installing and streaming open world sandbox types content. (no more textures that pop in)

Precisely! On a closed system where the games are designed with the SSD's capabilities in mind, it would be one of the most significant enhancements that could possibly come to videogames. Texture pop in, as you say, would likely be a thing of the past.

Streaming is also something that would be vastly improved, especially textures.

I am pretty sure one of the weaknesses of SSD's is that reading or writing again again leads to premature ssd death. I am not 100% sure but I remember doing research on the subject before I bought mine

Nah, that shouldn't be an issue. SSD technology has been drastically improved. It would be outrageous for one to die from simply being used for the very thing it was designed for in the first place. I don't see any manufacturer, if they decide to go with SSD, having such a dramatic oversight in the building of their product.

Potentially. Problem is they're relatively new, hence relatively unproven in the long term. People will know better in 5 years or so.

Yeah, the only thing they're good for is reading and writing at excessive speeds. That's all.

Isn't that what you want?!? Much lower access times, much higher reading and writing speeds.. It would improve load times on a console considerably, which was always an issue.. Much more memory in the console would help that aswell..

My only question would be, is the the durability of current SSD drives high enough to last 6+ years in a console?

Definitely the fairest question. Price would naturally be the other concern, although HDD prices are pretty out of control right now too. The performance advantage should definitely not be questioned. I <3 my SSD.

I remember the days Rage came out and people were comparing the texture load speed on PS3 between HDD and SSD, SSD was way faster, barely noticed any pop in.

Wake me when we get real leaks.

Funny: Someone posted to pastebin about a 16 core processor. Then someone doctored up an IBM slide (proven fake). Then every major gaming news site ran the 16 core rumor. Ho hum.

Okay, just checked with my inside guy, "the mole." The cpu will be an Intel Core i5 2500k, except it will possess hyper-threading, and the igpu will actually be the Radeon HD 6870.

The discrete GPU will be Radeon 8000 class in tech and features, Radeon 7000 class in raw power.

"the mole" has not gotten back to me on other specs, but he says expect a potential launch title called "Sunset Rising."

This is the same dude that tipped me off about the y2k bug, so needless to say, he's an extremely reliable source.

isn't that the main difference between an i7 and an i5 - Hyperthreading?

My inside guy tells me that MS invented the Flux Capacitor and so the 720 folds time unto itself to make for infinite computing power and memory capacity. Also it gives you the ful library of games of all time, past and present. The downside is that it only connects to other xbox 720s, as it's now confirmed that the xbox 720 will be the first openly gay console.

Nah an exec has already come and stated to Reuters that there will be no mention of a new console this E3, and with the 360 topping the NPD charts for a straight 14th month, there is no reason for them to do so.
