My inside guy tells me that MS invented the Flux Capacitor and so the 720 folds time unto itself to make for infinite computing power and memory capacity. Also it gives you the ful library of games of all time, past and present. The downside is that it only connects to other xbox 720s, as it's now confirmed that the xbox 720 will be the first openly gay console.

isn't that the main difference between an i7 and an i5 - Hyperthreading?
haha.. yeah.. an i5 2500k with hyperthreading is an i7 2600k :D

Nah an exec has already come and stated to Reuters that there will be no mention of a new console this E3, and with the 360 topping the NPD charts for a straight 14th month, there is no reason for them to do so.
Arrogance leads to demise...PS2 was topping charts too! Dominating right and left....but Sony got arrogant and lost a great deal. Looking at the NPD and reading some GAF posts it is clear this generation has gone on for far too long. The games really aren't selling, the consoles themselves aren't pulling great numbers either.

Nintendo is launching at a great time, they can position Wii U as the new shit and set back the old machines big time. But I think MS and Sony can counter Nintendo by launching Super Slim 360 and Super Slim PS^3 for $199.

Next machines need to hit fast, the market looks like its in decline.

You make it sound like the PS2 just stood dead in it's tracks as soon as the 360 launched. The fact is that the PS2 saw great sales for a LONG time after that. What fucked the PS3 over were things like ridiculously high price tag and how shit PSN was, as compared to Live.

Nah, i doubt MS will be losing much by postponing launch, and i don't think the Wii-U will put much of a dent in the sales of either the next xbox och PS4 as the core gamers will most likely want one of those as their main system anyway.

Obviously both MS and Sony want to coast on their current hardware for as long as possible, i mean huge install base, cheap hardware...just introduce a new SKU and bam, sales get a boost yet production costs remain the same and every sold game is, at this point, most likely pure cash right in their pockets.

Yes, in some circles (factual circles) that's the key difference, but you have to be as realistic as possible with what goes into a videogame console. And we all know that an i7 is just not realistic. However, therein lies the innovation of this console's cpu. It will be an i5 2500k, only it will have hyperthreading. But it won't be an i7. It will just be an i5 with hyperthreading. Intel will be kicking themselves for years, wishing they had thought of it first.

Megido, you have to double check your source on that one because, according to "the mole", what you described is simply just the controller for the next Xbox. And you guys remember that massive explosive device that the Predators would trigger on their arm whenever they really wanted to screw somebody over that actually managed to beat them? Well, you'll be pleased to learn that the very same energy source that powers that device is what will be powering the next Xbox, and it will be possible for people to plug their television sets into it as well, so there will be no need to ever plug anything into a household outlet in order to play the next xbox. It's a very sleek and efficient design. No risks, high reward. Microsoft will be the only company that can guarantee their customers will never have to concern themselves with electricity bills. Every next gen xbox will also come with a life insurance policy of up to 3 years from the date you purchased the console. However, in the fine print, it will be carefully pointed out that the victim or victims that suffer serious injuries resulting in death, must promptly file a claim for payment within the immediate 24 hours following their death.

Very true, also the devs have been coming out saying that the WiiU is almost up to the standard of the 360/ps3? go figure.., so i think its safe to say that the next xbox and ps wont lose anything to the WiiU.

That was true right up until an Nvidia GPU and an Intel CPU performed a DBZ style fusion dance. Now anything is possible.

"the mole" tells me that the Wii U is stronger than the strongest PC an individual can possibly hope to build, including the possibility of a Quad SLI setup. So strong, in fact, that he tells me it's the primary reason Valve has decided to team up with Apple for the exclusive release of Half Life 3 on both the Wii-U and the iPad HD. Apple is bankrolling development, and shortly there after will purchase Valve outright. Valve will continue about their usual business, but will form teams entirely focused around big budget iPad game development.

The first major iPad HD release will be a new portal.

Xbox 720 will not have an Intel CPU or a nvidia GPU 100%. This was detailed in Dean Takahashi's book, Microsoft lost billions of dollars on Xbox 1 because nvidia and Intel, I forgot the exact details but it was the main reason why MS went with ATI and IBM for 360, they have zero reason to go back to Intel or nvidia.

720 cpu will be provided by IBM and GPU by ATI 100%

I don't believe most of the rumors, and I already know what's true and what's not (next xbox only). Mostly just having some fun with it. Microsoft will not use Intel or Nvidia, even though they'd personally like to use Intel, but won't for reasons already listed by Doom_Bringer. Corporations hold grudges when the other companies in question cost them in excess of $5 billion. :)

Microsoft mistake ended up costing them bigger than they hoped, and Intel and Nvidia were all too willing to turn the knife :)

I don't know enough of the back story here, but I'm sure that if it helped their bottom line that history could be erased. Not that it can't influence their decision, but I don't think they need Intel anyway.

I'd like to see them go for IBM again and I'd like to see some backwards compatibility on the next Xbox platform personally.

Yea, they're definitely going with IBM again. And you're definitely right about that. If it would somehow help their bottom line, they would certainly be able to erase that history. Nonetheless, IBM just makes the most sense for a whole variety of reasons. They'll be able to, thanks obviously to their experience with the 360, truly be able to build a console whose full capabilities they'll be able to understand and gauge in a way that will be totally unprecedented from their past two consoles.

Not just that, I'm positive they've learned a great deal from the 10MB of EDRAM on the 360 GPU. They will have a far better idea of how these kinds of CPUs with their various execution threads handle themselves in real world next-gen titles. They better understand console bottlenecks, and should have a few ideas of how they can greatly remove such bottlenecks. There's just a lot of benefits to going with IBM again. It will make the next gen consoles even more exciting, because developers will be much more ready. Developers should have a much firmer grasp on how to program for them. Sure, they'll have to learn more about the specifics of the hardware before they realize what kinds of things they can get away with now compared to the previous machines, but they will always learn.

On page 9, you'll see from my cut and paste, a thread from a site from 2004, a year before the 360 came out, and they were pretty spot on, on the specs a year before our current 360 came out.

I think it is definitely possible this could be pretty close to the mark. ( all the current 16 core rumors).

The last wave of consoles brought/helped to establish some significant innovations to the IT world in general:
-spearheaded HDTV adoption - back in 2005/2006 there wasn't much incentive to buy an HDTV other than for 360 or PS3
-forced developers to adapt to multicore programming - there was a lot of bitching about it when 360/PS3 came out, nowadays even . Before 360/PS3 there were multicore processors but they weren't supported by any software.
-PS3 helped to establish Blu-Ray as the next movie format
-360 showed the way to include online/community features on the OS level (again, I know that individual features were generally not new)
-Wii introduced a motion controller
-DS was pretty much the first really popular device with a touch screen

I wonder what innovations the next gen consoles could introduce, so far WiiU isn't doing anything interesting on any level.

It still supports the Wii controller and has touch screen in the Wii-U controller.

Both of which are pretty interesting, this will be the first time a home console will have a touch screen. (will be awesome for RTS and having hot keys in RPG's/MMOs)

The potential for the Wii-U is incredible. The potential for innovation, I think, is much higher than anything else I've seen introduced by any other console manufacturer. Not even referring just to crappy mini-game gimmicks, but major changes to the way developers create things such as interfaces of and how the player interacts with the game. Yep, hot keys for RPGS/MMOs are one of the more exciting potential uses.

Hell, the Wii-U controller can afford to go far beyond simple hot key buttons with some very creative gestured based actions.
