The potential for the Wii-U is incredible. The potential for innovation, I think, is much higher than anything else I've seen introduced by any other console manufacturer. Not even referring just to crappy mini-game gimmicks, but major changes to the way developers create things such as interfaces of and how the player interacts with the game. Yep, hot keys for RPGS/MMOs are one of the more exciting potential uses.

Hell, the Wii-U controller can afford to go far beyond simple hot key buttons with some very creative gestured based actions.

Too bad that's everything people said about the original Wii controller :P I imagine it will all go down the way it always has- Nintedo First parties being the only ones making anything worth looking at- and I've been over Zelda and Mario for a while. Nintendo will have to start putting in some story and character development motivations to hook me again...

I sure as hell never said that about the original wii mote. I was excited by the enthusiasm and general feeling of how well they were selling the wii at their E3 presser, originally believing them doomed, but I never was truly excited about the potential of what it could become. The thing about this Wii-U controller that is notably different, is the fact that it will be far, far easier for developers to do unique things on the Wii-u controller. They're basically doing some of the same things they've always done on the consoles, except they may be getting a bit more creative with what they put on the controller and how. It shouldn't be very difficult for devs to do.

I can already see the potential for some crazy splinter cell gadgets using the wii-u controller. Then again, the wii-u probably won't get the new splinter cell. Man, I'm so friggin excited for the new splinter cell. The last one, Conviction, is one of my most favorite games of all time. I really love it that much.

Well for one you could more safely invest i games that use the Wii-U controller as compared to the PS3/vita combo as not all PS3 owners have a vita and vice versa. Not a technical thing but certainly something that gives the Wii-U an edge for developers :P

This I agree with, I think online is much more important and is the main reason why developers wouldn't go near the system.

I hope Nintendo have a decent online system planned, although they are pretty late to the party, can't say I'm holding my breath for that.

I guess you're right. There's only so much they could've done with the hardware on the wii.

At the same time, if wiiU has about the same specs as a 360/ps3 then it's software/online/user interface component is going to be limited as a 360/ps3.

I hope that looks better in motion, with processing power being used for particles and physics or something, because even the high res images looka bit...unremarkable? I hope next gen offers more then that, the close up on the demon's face has a seriously low res texture covering it...maybe that isnt what they're trying to demo tho, if so, disregard what i said.

About them lobbying to improve the next gen console specs...if they dont succeed i assume they'll be losing a lot of licensing money for the UE4 engine since no console devs will be using it. Seems epic have a lot to lose, probably the only reason they're trying to get them to improve the specs at all.

If UE3 (and every other Unreal Engine) is any indication, UE4 will scale back to less powerful hardware with relative ease.

I have to agree that it's a little underwhelming. I also hope it looks better in motion. The last UE3 demo was a lot more attractive by design.

We wont. They will simply use the additional power to make a better looking 30fps, 720p title (on consoles) as long as tech continues to improve, developers will continue to use it on visuals, not framerate or resolution. The only way i can see next gen consoles being 60fps and 1080p is if one or both of the console manufacturers make it a requirement instead of an option....but they wont do that...

A PC is looking mighty fine, in fact I was asking if I could hook a PC to a HDTV earlier to Sath, if things dont get better at the performance stuff I will maybe buy a monster PC and skip next gen consoles for a few years.

If the blurbs about realtime development is the focus it is a big win for instancing, iteration, and content/gameplay creation.
