Depends when they plan to release, if its the end of next year it won't be 8000 series.

Hey, could be another Xenos situation, where Xenos had features of AMD's r600, even though r600 hadn't officially released yet when Xbox 360s were being sold. The next Xbox GPU could very easily have tech/features of the next upcoming high end AMD GPU of the time, even if the GPU isn't available to PC users yet. This was the case with the tech inside/innovations inside the 360 GPU, and I can very easily see that being the case again.

I'm sure it will Optimus, does anyone know if the 8000 series plans to have anything decent though or is it just going to be more of the same but better ?

I'm sure both consoles (Sony/MS) will use customised GPU's, I can only hope they have more Edram this time.

Well, with Xenos, due to the switch to unified shader architectures, that was probably one of those rare instances where we see such a huge GPU innovation debut on a console first. Who knows if we'll see such a drastic change again for a console GPU, other than the GPU simply being, as you say, more of the same but better. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if there are huge innovations on the memory side of things going into the next gen.

In some cases, it might even be a necessity to innovate on the memory side of things. Well, they may have something even better than EDRAM this time, at least this might be the case on the next xbox side of things, if certain things I've heard turn out true.

Both MS and Sony would do well to go with DDR4.

Wouldn't DDR5 be better at least for graphics, depends if they go with the unified memory again I suppose.

Well, it definitely seems as if it would be the best way to go, but that depends on how much it costs.

DDR4 is in development and expected to be released soon. GDDR3, GDDR5 is usually used in consoles and GPU's. PS3 has R as main Ram, don't know the specs but maybe it's fastest? 4GB R ram in PS4 of yea (lol, jk)

Acert = Ace Right = Ace is Right. So yes, I am me being me, which is Ace is Right. Glad we all agree on that!

Ok, now that we cleared up that you meant GDDR5 ... different gen, different "design pressures" and bottlenecks. A unified pool is an advantage if two competing systems have the same memory and the memory is being saturated by a high bandwidth client, e.g. the PS3 had a split pool, horrible transfer between them, and the GDDR3 was saturated with RSX fill rate. The 360 which had one pool and all fill rate bandwidth isolated on the eDRAM was a big win.

Those things may not be an issue next gen.

It is too early to say if GDDR5 is better than DDR4. If the DDR4 also has eDRAM (full cache, not a simple ROP buffer) or better 128-256MB stacked memory then a boatload of DDR4 and a very high banwidth pool would be better in most situations.

Some things to consider. GDDR5 is on the downside of its EOL and won't drop a ton in price. It is currently 4x as expensive as DDR3 -- you can get 8GB DDR3 for the price of 2GB of GDDR5. DDR4 will be more expensive than DDR3 initially BUT will quickly drop in price as volume increase. It also has better bandwidth and lower power usage. Also a 256bit bus DDR4 is over 50% of the bandwidth of 2GB of GDDR5 but 400% the size.

Looking at high end GPUs (e.g. 2TFLOPs) I would choose 8GB of DDR4 (lets say 70GB/s to be low end conservative) with a 128MB eDRAM (>256GB/s) cache over 4GB of GDDR5 (probably about 150-190GB/s at best for a high end design). The 128MB workspace with that sort of bandwidth really solves a lot of problems and then having over 2x the content in RAM instead of optical opens up a lot of better caching solutions.

But the more I think about it a 1TFLOPs GPU (think Cape Verde class) with a 4 core CPU and 4-8GB of DDR4 seems likely. Cape Verde is happy with 70GB/s of bandwidth. A SoC APU will be large enough for a 256bit DDR4 bus to allow the bandwidth needs to be met. Pretty balanced, lower end, design. They will target 720p and keep parity with the top end PC games with some "optimization" (read lower IQ) and lower resolution, 30Hz and call it a day.

No expensive GDDR5.
No expensive eDRAM.
No expensive Stacked Memory.
No large, hot GPU.
No wasted silicon in CPUs that give a % in performance returns.

But they will have a lot of slides emphasizing Gigabuttocks to make Phaethon happy!

It all depends Ace, Microsoft might be doing "just enough" to get them to their 2015 cloud gaming goals. Once arrived they won't need anything additional on the hardware end of things. Still, the Xbox platform isn't just a box anymore. It's extended by peripherals that NEED processing power. Kinect and other devices hinted at in the leaked document would suggest that the Xbox platform is never going to be "completely in the cloud" Hardware and additions look to always be a factor, so there are reasons why I believe that Microsoft will try to edge as close to (if not more) than 2 Tflops this upcoming generation.

Not that it matters all that much, even the lower end of what you posted sounds good. Gamers tend to forget that the consoles are closed boxes and will scale and adapt very well for performance. Then there are of course affordable solutions should Microsoft choose the higher end of performance. Two mid-range GPUs working in conjunction to render different assets is just one idea that comes to mind. Maybe even FPGA coprocessor to improve efficiency. Mmmmmm, maybe that's a little too ambitious, lol. My point is clever options do exist that would help them reach 2 Tflops or greater performance without breaking the bank.

I hypothesize that the gigabit bandwidths of the coronary interpersonal diametric properties have transfixed new matrices in congruent incorrigibility by duplicating semi-transparent extraneous oxidized crystals.

So... Am I the only one who is baffled that there is next to nothing shown/revealed about the Wii-U? I mean, it comes out THIS YEAR, and there is just about zero marketing.
