I'll probably skip it anyway. Everytime I read about a new game I have to read the spew that goes along with it, and that really get's me out of the mood to play at all.

this is probably why I play games a year later, because I don't have to hear the spew while I play it.

I actually get that a lot. Circle jerking hype kills my interest in a lot of things.

Imagine if it is digital only games, people say "not got the bandwidth" what about then.. you buy it from the shop, you install it 100% from the disk to the machine (imagine WoW) but the scratch card (serial) can only be used once, the content is then locked to that account/machine and they did not have to download it
You can pass the disk on yes, your friends can install it yes.. but they cant play it till they activate it

But those who download it get it slightly cheaper due to no packaging third party sales and no fuel required to transport it everywhere.. minus server costs.

Digital media only is bad idea. BR or some new optical drive is must. It will be strange to download a full game of min 10GB on midnight rather than buying a physical copy which is still more popular. People get excited to get a game rather than downloading. Like this video lol:

I don't think it's a bg problem with the more "hard core" crowd. I mean, we are already used to downloading games, but there is a significant slice of the market that isn't used to it and yet another significant part of it that simply doesn't have the internet connection required for it to be a good option. No, you'll be able to buy games in stores for at least two more generations i think.

yea that's why I don't download PC games anymore. Most of them are way too big (Batman 16 gigs, Rage 20 gigs lol) fuck that man, and the ISP's in Canada are all awful. I really want to check out Dead Space 2 and Portal 2 which I bought earlier this year but the download sizes are so large :(

That's the thing though. MS/Sony can't lower the price on downloadable games as long as retail is the largest chunk of sales. If they do Gamestop gets crabby and threatens to stop retailing titles for that format.

then let gamestop do that, give them 5 months they WILL change there mind, specially if sony and MS are doing it.. what else are they going to sell? cheese?

There bluffing, and IF they refuse, take them to court for trying to cause a monopoly (that would be ironic seeing MS do that..)

That's just it though, Gamestop has the upper hand. If they stop stocking, say, 360 titles. MS loses like 90% of their licensing revenues over night. 360 dies, end of story. Untill people are more ready and willing to download over buying in stores prices will stay up for downloadable games as well. Just look at steam. It's often more expensive to buy a game on steam day 1 than it is to go to a store and buy it. And that's a market where downloading is more common than any other, except for mobile platforms obviously.

Downaloading ??

Phhfft cloud based gaming is where the future is, now if only they could get rid of that pesky latency.

Then we can all buy pricy empty boxes that stream video games .. joy

Just sayin'

Now imagine a GPU twice as fast as a 6850 (basically a 40nm to 28nm shrink) that would clock in at nearly 3GLFOPs (about 2000 shaders) and 96TMUs in the 700-800MHz range connected to over 200GB/s of low power, wide I/O stacked memory on an SI. That is possible on a GPU budget of ~ 240mm^2 with redundancies and 32 ROPs.

i know what you saying, but i disagree with the way the shops monopolize this.. everyone will make more money the DL way.. well except the shops, and i cant really speak for gamestop (England here) but i assume Game does the same thing, but the thing is now everywhere sells games now in England (and second hand ones..) if Game stopped stocking, people would just go elsewhere, and i tell you now they would NOT stop stocking.. they cant afford to.

Its a bluff, a bluff that should go to court, i want my games cheaper, and if DL offers that over physical.. i would take it.

Why not just click on download button rather than:

Definitely physical copy is preferred, downloadable games is ok but big budget and popular games people like to own a copy. Download should only be a option even 10yrs from now

yeah, hence why i dont get why people are saying "ZOMG, and no price cut"? it may not have been a permanent, official price cut, but that's precicely why everyone jumped on the black friday deals. a short period of cheapness = massive boost in sales. i'm sure there was an increase in everything else they where selling compared to normal. and i'm sure there will be another boost in the UK during january sales. i dont get why people are surprised that an already cheap console, has sold well when it became cheaper on black firday on the run up to christmas? seems obvious to me?

And that sale alone will make MS think "we don't need a new gen, when kinect is still pushing the system"

It makes me sad :(

Yeah i bet they'll just sack their entire RnD secton just because 360 had a bang out sale over black friday. Sorry buddy but the guys at MS can proooobably see the correlation between black friday and the sales numbers. If they were planning on announcing a new xbox next year this will not have changed that :P

Yep the new xbox plans will remain in place, 2013 is my guess!, and 1million in a week is MASSIVE no matter how you spin it.
