Donc bon.... (il y a 20 Heures)

Inscrit depuis 7459 JoursI do agree that they could have it much harder next gen, Wii-U no longer looks to be targeting the casual gamer anyway, so I'm not entirely sure what Nintendo has up their sleeve.
As a early adopter you should expect to get dodgy units, I know I took that risk and accepted it, my 360 had RROD and my PS3's blu-ray drive died.
Doesn't mean I won't be first in like next gen, assuming I can afford to buy one.
Marumaro for the WIN !!
Inscrit depuis 6648 JoursShould we accept the risk either? You wouldn't accept it with any other product so why consoles and you would expect any issues to be resolved asap in any other product. Nevermind that in these tough times people will be more reluctant to gamble that the console will survive more than 12 months. Sure you can take out an extended warranty somewhere but again, can be costly. MS SHOULD offer a 3 year warranty out of the box to match other electronic goods, assure early adopters and create confidence that they will do the right thing should any showstopper issues arise like the RROD instead of denying it and refusing to do hardware revisions.

Inscrit depuis 6899 JoursAnyway I am sure PS2 was designed in such a way that it would fail after some time, since Sony was dominating the generation before their engineers probably planted an obsolescence into the device, probably knowing they would get away with it (and they did). I mean they sold 150 million PS2 and I really wonder how many of those were just replacement units.
Both Sony and Microsoft IMO are shady companies, at the end of the day they only care about profit and nothing else. Planned obsolescence is a great way of generating more money. Consoles continue to fail but the ADD CoD crowd needs their fix ASAP so they buy a new machine.
You don't see this with Nintedo hardware AT ALL. NES, SNES, GameBoy, Gamecube, WII all solid consoles with zero history of mass failures. Nintendo IMO is the only one who cares about gamers. Nintendo hardware = by gamers for gamers. <3

Inscrit depuis 6902 JoursI mean really, do you think that enough of a percentage of people that got RROD just went "fuckit, i'll just buy a new 300 dollar machine!" rather than wait for a week while MS fixes their existing one for free and gives them an extra year of warranty? Sure, some people will ahve bought a new one but probably a rather small chunk. Not to mention all the people that the RROD fail probably scared away from buying an xbox.
To make a company work you need to fuck the consumers just hard enough, but not too rough or they will leave. To me you just sound like a conspiracy nut.

Inscrit depuis 6899 JoursPlanned obsolescence tends to work best when a producer has at least an oligopoly.[11] Before introducing a planned obsolescence, the producer has to know that the consumer is at least somewhat likely to buy a replacement from them. In these cases of planned obsolescence, there is an information asymmetry between the producer–who knows how long the product was designed to last–and the consumer, who does not. When a market becomes more competitive, product lifespans tend to increase.
Microsoft was in a good position when the RROD started, PS3 was too expensive and had a crap library, Wii was aimed at different market so that left MS with a monopoly on the market. It was the perfect time for the RROD to start occurring, I really wonder how many people simply bought a new console...as it took MS a while before they started offering replacements and extra warranty
My theory needs more data and dates that show when the RROD started, how many 360's were sold at that point and how much the sales increased world wide (per month).

Inscrit depuis 7561 JoursAnyone who buys something from which enjoyment will be derived? Does the thing have to have flaws for the consumer to be a whore, or no?

Inscrit depuis 7576 JoursAnd I know quite a few people who own multiple oldschool 360's as well as a slim. I guess it's partially Sony's fault for not having a console that actually plays the majority of multiplatform titles on the same page as the Xbox. I guess that makes it hard to completely jump ship.
And the new thing may not be fundamentally flawed, but they no longer get the benefit of the doubt from me.
Hell.. they still ship and sell controllers with faulty d-pads.

Inscrit depuis 7576 JoursThat's manning up. I might even call a blanket warranty on the RROD manning up. What they did was barely cover their ass. If we didn't live in a society where consumers roll the fuck over every chance they get, shit like this wouldn't happen.
And to be clear I don't blame Microsoft for this. I blame consumers for letting them get away with it. I mean come on. People kept buying consoles that were basically confirmed to be defective! Don't buy junk people.

I have to say that I'm increasingly becoming more convinced that the consoles of the next generation will probably be taking the shortest technological leap forward we've ever seen, at least when compared to previous generations. Launching in 2013 (which looks to be the target) will certainly give us better specs, at least there's the chance Microsoft and/or Sony will take a bolder direction.
