PC Xbox 360 PS3

Crytek released this tech demo, showing how their upcoming engine handle different environments. It looks of course good as hell.
Update: Keep in mind that this video was shown during E3 (but not released as direct-feed) and that it all should look much better today.

Heh you guys obviously don't understand the major leap involved in this technology. Volumetric clouds? We are still struggling to render those in CG in a reasonable amount of time. The water depth is incredible as well. Kudos to the coders and artists over at Crytek for a very very impressive achievement :)

Correction rusty the 360 videocard goes beyond shader model 3.0 and has features that even directx10 aka WGF 2.0 wont have :)

http://www.beyond3d.com/articles/xenos/index.php?p... <--beyond shader model 3.0 and directx9 specifications

http://www.beyond3d.com/articles/xenos/index.php?p... <--MEMEXPORT

The 360 is fully capable of running this engine to its full capability, the ps3 gpu on the other hand isn't as its a 7800GTX 512. It doesn't go beyond shader model 3.0 or support directx 10 features or go beyond directx10 features such as the 360's gpu does.

To be honest the best way to put it is simply that this videocard in the 360 doesn't stick to any strict guildlines. It wasn't geared for directx9 or directx10 just like that it was geared towards itself so to speak. They set out to make the best possible console gpu one can currently have and in trying to accomplish that goal they ended up with a videocard that supports all dx9 features and goes beyond dx9 features and supports many dx10 features and then goes beyond directx10 features. A perfectly built console gpu designed for the future. Thats how many have described they say the 360 gpu doesn't simply meet any directx specifications it meets its own.

have to say....thanks..i dont understand alot of that but the parts i do explain alot and put my fears at rest

i love my 360 and i know it'll be able to wack out the most amazing graphics i've ever seen

Unreal engine can handle out door environments very well as will be shown when Lost Odyssey, Endless Saga, Mass Effect and even Gears of War are released. This engine will be better at natural environments but Unreal Engine 3 is more versatile. Much more so. Don't mistake it for Doom 3 engine.

The game Crytek are working on is a game called Crysis, It'll be released in the fourth quarter of 2006.

This game is gonna be really impressive, I hope they show more at E3 this year.

So you're saying that the Xbox360 is more futureproof in terms of graphics capability? I mean Kaz Harai has stated in numerous interviews where he said the PS3 is made to "future proof." I guess he means PS3 is design with future Sony products in mind huh?

Is that game for PC? And if it is, any chance of it coming to the 360?

Oh and regarding volumetric clouds technology, man just think next-gen Panzer Dragoon or flying around with that airship in Final Fantasy VII. Heck...Blue Dragon and his flying yellow submarine LOL. I'm really looking forward to Blue Dragon and Lost Oddysey even though I have put JRPGs behind me years ago.

Yes it is. Forget DX10.
XENOS is something like a shader model 3.4 GPU , while RSX (if based on G70) is a Shader model 2.7 GPU.
On papers G70 is full support S.M. 3.0 but in reallity it lacks some important futures.
Anyway this is not so important because in PS3 , Cell make the difference.

i was under the impression that no matter how good a CPU is its the GPU that makes the difference.?? (re the cell)
its like sticking a 2 inch exhaust with a cat converter on an imprezza. you get a loss of power. now replace it with a straight through decat 3.5 inch system and bang, extra horse power.(sorry to use a car annalagy..i know more about cars than computer innards...but i am getting there lol )

The only thing I like is the interactive and destructible environments. With this, hopefully we will see less object clipping and going through leaves.

I'm skeptical as to whether this will be fully possible on the xbox 360. Gamershell has some screenshots that look like a newer build of this game and the character faces and objects look much more detailed. The one single reason I dont think this is fully possible on the 360 is memory. It probably takes a lot of memory to have scenes this detailed with textures on faces and objects as high of a resolution as these seem to be. My guess is that xbox 360 will get a port of this "Crysis" (as its called on Gamershell) game, and hopefully it lives up to the PC version more than far cry instincts on xbox did to the original far cry, not that it was bad, but it was lower resolution everything and practically a completely different design and feel for the levels.

I really really hope this is possible on the 360.

I can only imagine all the cool games that this engine could make possible. 1) a Predator game like the movie that takes place in a jungle would be neat. 2) A Jurassic Park game finally worth playing! 3) A game based on the tv show LOST? Maybe but it sounds boring. I like the jurassic park idea. I hope that steven speilberg. I think Spielberg is going to make/direct the next/last jurassic park movie sees this games screenshots and calls up Crytek to start a deal, because a game like that would be better than a techno-military shooter with mad scientists on a island full of goons....

Anyways, off topic, but I hope that we see this on the xbox 360. I have faith. I remember the difference between the original halo on xbox launch compared to splinter cell chaos theory so who knows.

Crysis is gonna be on PC, but I hear the engine was developed with Xbox 360 and PS3 in mind, so maybe later on we will get the game out on consoles.

As for FarCry, that franchise now belongs to Ubisoft, and Crytek has notthing to do with whatever FarCry game comes out. And no the next FarCry for Xbox 360 is not using CryEngine 2.

I'm really looking forward to Crysis on PC and Xbox 360.

Crysis is fully capable of running on Xbox 360, you have to remember that consoles are not PCs, they don't manage resources and the hardware is geared towards games. The new engine from Cryteck was built so that it could fully utilize the hardware in the current Next-Gen consoles (except REVOLUTION of course) and the game could look better than the PC version if the developers but time into porting the tech unto Xbox 360 and PS3.

Also remember that Xbox 360's GPU is a more advanced GPU since it has SM3+ and DX10 (WGF 2), plus some extra features that the newer DX 10 does'nt have. So Xbox 360 is a very powerful console, it's just that developers haven't spent enough time with the Hardware enough to use the maximum power of the CPU and GPU. Soon games will be doing transitions like Halo1 - Halo2, it's only a matter of time.

I thought Cell is also just a modified PPC? I hope it doesn't turned out to be as dead as the Emotion engine once it comes out. As Nath500 pointed out, 512MB is quite low if you compared it to high end PCs such as the new Dell XPS (2GB Main Memory + 2GB Video Ram a la quad SLi) . Basically 2GB of RAM means that some games can be entirely loaded onto the memory with little loading time? But 512MB will be sort of low unless they start utilizing that slow 20GB hard drive (I'm still pissed to why they didn't make a dedicated 100GB Hard drive built into the system with the optional.)
