Codemasters unveils the first gameplay trailer of Colin McRae: Dirt on the 360 Marketplace. The game is several months from its June release but it already looks quite good, if not as spectacular as some of the screenshots.
Update: Fixed version with better sound sync (but not perfect) online. A proper 720p version will be online tonight.
Update2: 720p versions added. The quality of the original trailer on the Marketplace isn't that good to begin with, so downloading this new version isn't really necessary if you've seen the previous one.

Commented on 2007-03-29 16:33:54I played MotorStorm and it's graphic is very good in some parts and very bad in other parts - at the same time. So you get no feeling of a "constantly good graphic"*.
MotorStorm is also very limited in terms of tracks (there are only 8 tracks, and only round courses), whereas CMR will have long tracks where you can drive from A to B...
So in the end i'm not expecting the same amount of details on the single tracks in CMR as in MotorStorm, but a better "general" experience (= constant graphical look)while playing.
*sorry, english is not my native language, so i don't know a better expression for that.
best regards,
ScarJack

Commented on 2007-03-29 17:31:07 In reply to ManThatYouFearMotorstorm = a big emphasis on physics (that is, crashing to other cars and everything blowing up and then stuff flying around) and at best has a lot of cars/motorcycles/trucks on screen at one time
Colin McRae = only has a few cars on screen at once and I believe Colin McRae to have less emphasis on the kind of desctruction that is in Motorstorm.
I'd say they are quite even. Motorstorm can look incredibly good (I'd say it gives Gears of War a great run at being the best looking next-gen game), yet at times it can look "not-so-special". Still, the lighting, car models & huge environments of Motorstorm are all great, not to even mention the physics. So... yeah. I'd say Motorstorm & Colin McRae are pretty even. Motorstorm looks a bit better at times, and Colin McRae in others.

Codemaster's upcoming installment in the long-running and exceedingly popular Colin McRae series isn't just the best-looking rally game we've seen, it's one of the best-looking next generation titles, period. This week we've been lucky enough to go hands-on with Colin McRae: DIRT and were immediately blown away by the impressive visuals, superb handling and high-speed rally racing. Clearly Codemasters has had its best development team locked up in a garage for several years with only programming tools for company, if the impressive results we've seen so far are anything to go by.
DIRT is definitely shaping up to be a truly next generation racing game, which looks great and plays brilliantly too

Commented on 2007-03-29 22:23:50The graphics are NOT good enough to justify the low framerate (looks like 25 to 30 fps), or less). there is no excuse for this. I'm not saying the game is crap, it might turn out to be good, but the framerate is absolutely terrible IMO.
I will pass on the Xbox 360 and PS3 console versions if the framerate is anything like this. Hopefully the PC version will be capable of a solid, consistant, butter-smooth 60fps with a powerful graphics card.

originally the target was 60fps (50fps PAL) but they decided to go with 30fps (25fps PAL?) because they could not get the graphical fidelity they wanted at 60fps/50fps, so they dropped the framerate of the graphics.

Your opinion my be different, but ultimatey we've got to take the route we think is best.
graphic update is 30 fps.
main physics update is 60fps (with suspension stuff calculated somewhere round 1000 times a second.) so you're not losing out on any fidelity there from dropping the speed of the graphics update.

3. 30 frames? No Thanks!
4. No Multiplayer? Really?
5. Good graphics, but not groundbreaking.
Waitin' for SEGA Rally 360, Richard Burns (R.I.P.) Rally 2 & Rally Sport 3.
