PS3

It didn't take long after the trailer was released for our friends over at Tokyo to film some gameplay footage of White Knight Story, and as expected for a Level 5 it looks great!
Update: Added a second and long gameplay video. We couldn't do anything about the screen being partly hidden by the player, they didn't allow us to do anything but that.
Update 2: Added a third video, this time showing the whole demo.
MAJ 3: Last video, highlighting the character creation system.

Yes but you have to accept that other people will not always agree with you, it's part of life.

Graphically i think it looks amazing, but the gameplay is very lacking, obviously this could be because its early in development, but im not guna count on that.

At this stage it should be looking a whole lot more exciting.
er well, it was certainly a much better original showing than LO had...most sources said this was fun to play, while that game got trashed...and look how that improved. Real time combat alone makes this more interesting to me...then there is the lack of random battles. I def think animations could use work, but the cut scene trailer for this blew me away with the scale. A nice change from what the FFXIII should offer.

It looks a bit buggy, but otherwise I'm looking forward to it. I think what they need to show is something a little later on in the game, not just something from the beginning, as that would naturally appear to be quite a bit more dull.

rather hard to tell how lacking it is.
it looks about what one would expect from what they've shown. i haven't seen anyone thats really gone in depth with the combo building system, which is supposedly the real meat of the combat system

frankly doesn't look any less exciting gameplay-wise then some other high profile rpgs that have been hyped so far in TGS based on what we've actually been shown

I would say eternal sonata is the best looking jrpg.

This is 1 of the best looking 3d rpgs though. Infinite Undiscovery looks pretty much the same as this and has a similiar art style.

Lost Oddysey looks truely amazing but has a very dark art style due to using the unreal 3 engine.

But these new wave of rpgs certainly are packing some nice eye candy. But the gameplay really needs to take the rpg genre somewhere while keeping the same rpg feel.

The challange is not making a game look good any bunch of programmers can do it. Its getting a game to play well that will make them memorable.

I'm no longer interested in this game after seeing those gameplay videos. It looks boring and repetitive as others have stated. (Nice eye-candy though.)

very impressive character creation...much nicer than the one in oblivion with its option to only create only ugly buggers

change too much, and ppl start screaming that you've lost some mystical "soul" of rpgs. change too little and ppl start screaming you're not innovating enough.

and of course the real kick is that A) the happy balance region between the two is extremely small and B) you'll never get everyone to agree with where that happy balance between the two is in the first place.

problem is, what you want is easier said than done. in fact i'd go so far as to say it's something that is said very easily but near impossible if not completely impossible to actually accomplish.
taking the genre somewhere new is inevitably going to change its feel. that's something i don't think enough people understand. certainly there's variation in how far you take it, and how different it feels. but the 2 are pretty much completely inversely related. if you want them to really take the genre somewhere new, then the feel is going to be something new. if you want that same classic feel, don't expect them to have changed much from that same classic design.

Here's why the gaming press is broken. Tap X in turn based combat = fail, tap x in real time = win. Honestly, it's a stupid view to take. Turn based is limited to button presses, the quality of the system comes from it's depth which you can't get a hold of in the demo. Action game X tapping is in fact terrible and inexcusable when franchises like NJ and DMC exist, because it's the button taps which the depth of an action game revolves around. They're different system, real time isn't an evolution of turn based systems, it's a reinvention, totally separate.

As for "Lost Oddysey looks truely amazing but has a very dark art style due to using the unreal 3 engine." I'm pretty sure that's due to the art direction ;)

The color palette reminds me of Fable (that's a good thing). The gameplay also looks sort of like FFXII from what I can tell, right? Good grief, so many damned good looking games. Why's everyone hating on it?

graphically it seems downgraded from the first unveiling trailer of the game..

But i guess that was a target render right? The game still is in early development and i'm sure it will look better towards the release.

this is level-5's baby afterall, so i have full confidence in the final game. Loved rogue galaxy, dark cloud, dragon quest 8..!

Level is way overrated, they made 2 great games, Dark Cloud 2, and DQ8 and one of them was joint development with SE.

For an Action RPG, this game looks great. Better than LO and BD, I'd say.

It certainly looks much deeper than Eternal Sonata.

But I have a feeling Infinite Undiscovery will be superior. :)

You cant compare an Action RPG with a Turn base one like LO and BD.
I believe everyone has preference for what kind of RPGs they like: The new generation will love real time action game and older generation would still love turn base.

first sentance made sense, but the rest isn't really interesting... Hmm, so basically you are stealthily excusing LO's original poor showing (no big deal for me anymore considering the game looks good no) and saying how depth was not yet in place, but critically analysing this and saying such a system is inexcusable in the face of actions games...??? Actually a modified ffxii combat engine would be superior to your idea since it already incorporates turn based elements.

Animations are certainly not up to the original trailer here...but to say graphics have been downgraded is false...nowhere has that been said from those who have played the game...in fact, they ve been universally praised.
