PS3

I wouldn't have guessed to stumble upon the first images of Resistance 2 while my collegues must all be deadened (or drunk). Here is a beautiful utility of the time zones ! Resistance 2 will feature two different campaigns ; one traditionnal for solo play and another one that allows up to eight players coop to frag aliens. Other multiplayer modes allow up to 60 players online at any time.

There's a hype machine around Killzone 2? I don't see why, other then the fact that it's pretty. Previewers are overhyping it off of one level they've seen. I did love the first one though, so I'll be sure to pick it up though.

So are you saying KZ2 doesn't deserve the hype?

Isolated examples of exclusive games (games that can be designed around the consoles weaknesses) don't make up for the dozens of current examples of the PS3's problems with textures and IQ. Even KZ2 has some pretty low resolution, fugly textures, but Guerrilla makes up for it in its art direction, by distracting your attention from the muddy textures with beautiful animation, lighting, and particle effects.

To the extent that it has been hyped? I don't think there's enough evidence one way or another to know if it really deserves it yet. The hype for Killzone 2 started before anyone had even seen the actual game.

Exactly. The hype insanity around is because of that trailer at E3 2005. As a target render, Guerrilla got pretty close to it this year back at E3 but they'll have that rod on their back regardless how it turns out.

I have a sneaking suspicion we'll see some more of Gears 2 by the time Killzone rears it's head again. Resistance has made a decent jump in quality mind, the new screens are nice.

You sound like someone who has played the original Killzone so you will probably understand when I say KZ1 had some of the best weapon and FPS movement animations that trump almost all FPSes today.

Before Gears of Wars I would say it's one of the first games that really felt enjoyable to shoot an enemy and watch how the blood splat and force the victim to react in conjunction with the bullet.

And this was all done on a dinky PS2

Now years after E32005 CGI trailer they show gameplay that comes very close to their target video, I think they deserve all the hype they get.

Guerrilla has advance console graphics technolgy which I think deserves some Cred

Oh, well let me make it more clear: I haven't played Killzone for the PS2. I'm just saying that given its general reception as a rather average (at best) FPS, it's surprising to me that people are so willing to bite into the hype surrounding the game. I don't know this for sure, but I sorta assume that many of the people who are getting into KZ2 presently didn't play the original either. I think the hype surrounding the game has been fabricated by marketing and presentation.

You obviously liked KZ1 quite a bit, so I'm not surprised that you're excited, but given the impression that KZ1 gave most people, I find the hype somewhat unsubstantiated at the present time. Did Guerrilla really pioneer new graphics techniques? Well, I'm not so sure about that one--but it's really sorta pointless if the game still stunk anyway.

On the other hand, I know Resistance was a pretty solid game, and given the details we've heard on how they're improving the gameplay I suspect Resistance 2 is going to be a hit.

I'd say it was good at best, the original Killzone that is. It was never a particularly bad game, it was mostly aveerage, the setting and graphicws elevated it to good for me though.

For a much hyped 3rd generation game, it doesn't look much different than the first.

Sath: Care to enlighten us about that first person cover system? Because if it is what I think it is, you're talking out of yer arse.

I don't expect anything in return, but for the future don't be harsh unless you can prove them wrong.

After Resistance 1 Insomniac got together a badass streaming system so now they can stuff those fat BDs full of textures. And it shows.

looks good...a huge step up from the first...I completed that game, and honestly anybody who says these screens dont look much better flat out hasn't played it...

Anyway, Im a little scepticle whether it will look as good as the screens but R & C looks fantastic, also much better than resistance, so I have confidence in insomniac
