The official website for Grand Theft Auto IV has just been updated with these new images. Some more beautiful than others, overall I think we will all agree, considering the sheer amount of things in this game, that it looks awesome.

Commented on 2008-02-23 11:41:01I can't believe there are people complaining about how this game looks. Rockstar have shown absolutely nothing of the overall game so far. People complaining about framerate and textures just need to shut the fuck up until they play it. Some people need their heads examined.
When I first seen GTA3 on video and on screen shots, it looked OK, but not great. When I first played the game, I was stunned at how well it looked actually seeing it on the screen.

It looks grainy because that's the way the game is supposed to look like. If you look back at the GTAIV screenshot history, you'll notice that every single screen has that grainy "look" to it. I strongly believe that this is an implemented effect to the graphics engine, and not badly compressed image quality.

Commented on 2008-02-24 12:27:38There is some very harsh, often unnecessary criticism that does arise on many game boards, though. I do agree that it pays to have some artistic knowledge and how to apply that, however, as not everyone is really capable of giving justifiable comments if they have little basis other than "Gears of War is better looking", or current favourite "it's TF2 only -insert genre here-". Or simply skipping over the art style to nitpick on a rock that's probably only viewable in motion for 1/20th of a second.
For example, on the new picture, does it really bother anyone that the texture on the edge of the building is pixellated? No, because we know about what Rockstar are trying to achieve beyond that. We've not quite reached a level in games graphics, on current generation consoles, that allows for perfection. Even then, everyone's idea of perfection is different... hence why there's always heated arguments on games boards!
