PS3

The masons at Sony continue their good work with the Home construction, the social network a la Second Life planned for the Playstation 3 system. We see that the uploading of images seems functional in one of these new images, with nobody else than Shigeru Miyamoto shown in a frame. Also, would there be possibility of a mini-game with a unicycle? Look attentively in the window of that store.

For the love of god, please no! Seriously I don't understand why people get excited about that. For me it's just a chatprogram and I'd rather have MS finally pull out a voice chat with more than 2 people in it than that.
LOL, I didn't see your post there before I started typing. I really agree. Bring on multi-person voice/video chat! Maybe we're living in a bandwidth fantasy land, but I'd at least like to hear that they're trying.

i don't want to sound like a PS3 hater, but i just don't see the excitement in this. I mean I'm sure the technology is impressive, but i don't see how walking around in a "second world" can be fun. maybe, i'll be proved wrong?
Don't worry, there are plenty of people who think this virtual home is useless. Well, it's just a place to hang out with your friends. I have friends who have moved around all over the world and I think it'd be nifty to be able to chat with all of them and perhaps play a quick game of bowling. I know it sounds pretty cheesy and not much difference from an instant messenger :) but hey, Sony can build on this and make it so much more. How about having game tournaments in Home? Or build an online city where you can have scavenger hunts with REAL rewards (like free games, etc).

Again just like LBP Sony dropped the ball with this. Where is the Square Enix area? Where is the Metal Gear area? Which developers are going to have a lounge in Home?

Pointless

That'll happen after launch, if at all. It'll probably be 1st part stuff at first.

I just don't really see the point. Games are where I hang out with my gamer friends.

A simple menu system is all I need to navigate game demos and downloads...

I really hope MS blatantly copies Home so all of us 360 players get to have something like it =) Guess I'm gunna be spending a lot of time at my buddies place =)
In my opinion, no. Being able to communicate with your friends over Windows Live Messenger when you want to set up a game is more than enough for me. This is more or less a glorified Habbo Hotel, and seems like nothing more than a diversion from playing actual games. I don't want to go to the hastle of loading something like this up every time, when I can just send a message and achieve the same thing.

Speaking of which, I also understand they're copying the achievement system from the 360, but again, I like being able to press a buttom to look at my accomplishments in my games, I don't need to load a fully 3D room to look at those. It's something that's going to be ignored, once the novelty wears off.

Again, not trying to be a fanboy, I'm sure there are those of you that love the idea of this, but to me the whole thing seems unnecessary. I'd rather keep it simple. :)

Damn, can they get this out the door first? It takes a while to build up a solid network like that. First Sony has to prove it's a viable marketplace for third-party interests, then people will buy in and begin setting up shop.

I remember how devoid of life the original xbox live was. It took time for them to show and prove. Now look at them, from the features to the arcade, to the marketplace they have alot of third-party support; and it's because they've proven that the idea and implementation were sound.

I personally am not interested in Home, but recognize that others are. Good ideas take time to come into their own.

There have been actual games that I have gotten bored with when I was walking around environments with nothing to do.

How is this going to fair with the average user? I guess we'll have to see.

It certainly looks pleasing enough to the eye but I think it's going to need more than a virtual space to keep people coming back to it. And of course investing the time, money and/or achievements to make it a virtual space worth showing off to your friends.

Resistance:
Quote:
One of the first games expected to shine in one of Home's series of game portals is Insomniac's Resistance: Fall of Man. Resistance is said to provide Home visitors with an interesting room to explore, one that will let PlayStation 3 owners visit unseen areas of the game and tap into bonus content in the form of "intercepted" radio communications between European and U.S. forces.

Uncharted:
Quote:
While Resistance: Fall of Man's integration with Home should have bonus content fans excited, old school run-and-gun shooter fans should be pretty pumped about what they may be getting with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune's contribution. We hear that the Home portal for Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 adventure will follow in Resistance's footsteps, allowing Home avatars to explore the game's levels without the threat of being shot at, a nice feature. But it's the Uncharted mini-game that has us far more pumped.

According to our sources, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune comes to Home armed with a side-scrolling 2D arcade game, described to us as reminiscent of both Contra and Out Of This World. Sounds kind of like Capcom's 2D remake of Bionic Commando in its execution, full of enemies and exploding barrels to shoot.

WOWhawk:
Quote:
...the Home lobby for the Incognito dogfighter will serve as a "war room" where up to eight players can meet to discuss their strategy for an upcoming match. Sure, you could do that with text or voice chat, but it sounds like the developers have gone the extra mile to make planning your battles even cooler.
Using a three-dimensional "sand table" replication of the level, Warhawk players are said to be able to lay out their strategies in a properly scaled space. They'll even be able to place little army men avatars around the map to envision their formations, something we hope they can also do with teeny tiny Warhawk planes, tanks and Jeeps.

LOL. You guys should listen to the latest IGN Podcast B3yond. They tear Home, PSN, and PS3's showing at GDC, a new one. And all this coming from the PS3 podcast. It's worth listening to, at least for some truth.

As for Home, might be interesting to mess around with for a bit, but if some virtual chatroom is what everybody really wants, they already have that on PC. Compared to Live, Home seems like a hindrance to function. It should be substance over style, function over form; not the other way around to lure a bunch of casual gamers with some flashy new t-shirts and sunglasses.

But hey, that's just one guy's opinion. Oh wait, Podcast B3owned!

Pretty much what I was trying to say about it. A lot of it sounds like it would be really cool, but when it actually comes down to it, just how functional is it going to be? When I can just send a message to a friend to tell him to start up a game to have a match, or simply press a single button to see my achievements in a game, all of this just seems like it will be a hindrance in a long run.

Just to reinforce what I said before, it might be fun for a bit, but once the novelty wears off, just how much will it be used? When I want to play a game, I'm not going to go to the trouble of logging in to a chat room first, not when I can simply send a message to the person.
