As the main protagonist she may be unique, but if she were an enemy, her design would scream "generic gang member #3".

I know what you mean, but I am glad they went with this type, rather over the top slut outfit were they show big tits and legs, gets boring after seeing these types for like 1000 of times in games.

I like these type of characters that wear clothes like this and the roles they get, looks like a freelance characters.

Here is Joanna Dark with somewhat similair clothes.

what is the point of releasing these sub-par target renders?

How can it look fake when the people who saw it in motion says it looks like that?
With todays graphics, these can be accomplished. And because non of the "outsiders" (us) have seen it, we can't determine if it looks fake or not.
But i rather take the word from the people who seen it and gave it a first impression, rather I come up or listen to someone elses "predictions".

Why do you think they are sub-par? Why do you think they are "target renders"...not even bullshots...but "target renders"?

Actually, we can. We just can't say it IS actually fake.

I too believe they're atleast bullshots. And I'd rather trust my own judgement rather than that of these so called insiders. You know, the ones that hype these game to heavens just to bark them down in the eventual reviews. Not saying either is right or wrong in this particular one, but these insiders can't be considered reliable sources concerning this kind of stuff.

Screens look fantastic though, and the gameplay sounds amazing on paper. But, I'd have to see some actual gameplay footage to see what's up with this game.

Fabio was on the cover of Wizards & Warriors II.
Was he in the game? NO!

(then again it was the NES, so we could never tell either way)

Believe me, I am still skeptical. When screenshots gets released and it looks absolutely jaw dropping, you can't help yourself to be very skeptical.

Like how many times have screenshots been looking so good, and once gameplay footage gets released it looks like shit...aftertouch.

sa-weeet! Well, a bit on the bullshot side (extreme AA, Ambient Oclusion!) but still, sa-weet!
Ambient Occlusion is perfectly possible on next generation consoles... But yeah the AA is a bit higher then is realistic...lol =)
Posted by citizenx
other than the insane AA, this is entirely possible. Ambient Occlusion is possible in real-time, the UE3 engine used for GoW2 supports it, as demoed at GDC. The buildings don't look greatly detailed, so I can't see anything hugely tasking here.
Very true, between the fairly simple Environments and textures and stuff its very much possible...

I just hope the Gameplay is good, can't wait to see this game in motion =)

If moving around is real fluid and smooth, this could be really awesome. As for the graphics, i still feel the lighting to be questionable. But i guess it could be possible...Dice has done some pretty awesome games in terms of graphics earlier and ambient occlusion and such effects are starting to show up in games more and more. UE3, Offset, Crysis and so forth.

Also it's kind of fun, last time this game was showing i commented on ambient occlusion and nobody gave a shit, but now that it has been introduced to UE3 every body and his freaking aunt knows about it.

As I said in another thread, if you look closely than you will see that the textures are nothing special.

But this is more than possible, and you are right to bring up the lighting

If they're trying to imitate the world, they might want to look outside... we don't live in such a crisp and clean environment, haha. I do like the visual style though.

No need to do AO or GI in real-time. They can, and most likely have, just baked the lighting into the buildings. Pretty common technique. It would be dumb to do it in real-time, unless of course your game made explicit use of extremely dynamic interior lighting. All I can see is static exterior lighting. Better to save resources on something else. However, I did see that tech demo of that real-time engine doing GI. That was insanely impressive. I can't wait to see games using this as standard.

But anyway, the Post effects look so hawt in these screens. Definitely keeping an eye on this.
