Xbox 360 PS3

Sega have sent us a review code of Viking: Battle For Asgard, from the english developers of Creative Assembly. As usual, we took the time to record a lot of gameplay footage, and here comes the first thirty minutes of the game divided in three files. A fourth video will follow quickly, and will showcase the first big battle of the game, which concludes the first island of the adventure. Enjoy !
Update: Fourth part, showing the big battle right at the end of the first island (a bit less than 3 hours of play time), is up.

It looks like it would piss me off in 2 minutes upon being surrounded by the enemy

No Multiplayer or coop is a fucking disappointment and instantly makes it a renter for me.

Yeah that's really too bad, I've been really getting into co-op games, mainly offline ones, and have recently noticed my collection of games are all co-op ones now, GOW, Resistance, Army of Two, PDZ, etc. I think devs really need to start planning that into their games from the get go. Besides most RPG's, I think other genres are fine having co-op. Even Fable 2 will have it.

Adventure and rpg games have never needed "Co-op" before and most likely never will. If you make it a necessity now you'll be disappointed a lot more in the future.

Yes, maybe 10 years ago when I and a lot of others played them, but not in this day in age.
This isn't a RPG - it's Hack N' Slash adventure. Not Resident Evil or Silent Hill / Adventure, so no you're wrong, a game like this it is a necessity.
All I have to say is RUNE - end of story.

Not taking advantage of the possibilities of a game like this is like cutting off your right leg, yeah you can still walk, just not as far and as long.
So you'll be bored with it mighty quick...or you'll simply be one of those 16 year old douche bags comparing it to God of War with the usual smoke coming out of your ass.
The point is - I think they fucked themselves with this decision, it's a disappointment, and sadly the game will probably end up in the bargain bins just like Conan - and it deserved better.

Yes this looks good! I will certainly by this game.

Hmm, I feel an urge to make a Warhammer army themed on the opponents in this game... Hordes of Chaos FTW!

Also I am glad that there are games based(more or less) on vikings/norse mythology but in Too Human your Balder(or Baldur or whatever it is english speakers "write" him) and in this game Skarin works for Freja(Freya is it?)... I would really like to be/work for one of the likes of Odin, Thor or Tyr.

Thanks for the videos. I have a question about the camera in this game - it looks from the videos as if the game has no automatic camera at all, and you must continually mash the R stick to see where you are going. Is this the case?

The game looks absolutely brilliant to me - Great graphics, impressive gameplay and an epic battle at the end!

A definite purchase, for me.
My thoughts exactly. Truthfully, I didnt even think of this game before these videos. I now, cannot wait to play it.

Im lazy so'll just paste my first thoughts Ive posted somewhere else few minutes ago.

Ive got mixed feeling about this game. Starting from the good things, final battles are really cool, free roaming is quite fun. As some said controls aint good, fighting isnt polished, there is no crowd control, fatalities and other moves are getting a bit boring after a while. Viking is trying to mix different styles of gameplay such as stealth ( it fails here ), figthing ( not even close to Mark of Kri, GOW or even Conan ) sometimes its even trying to be a platformer lol. After beating first isle Ive got same feeling as with AssasinsCreed.....im bored. At least You know that final battle gotta rock so U keep playing.

Afterall Im a huge fan of gore+swords gameplay style so after playing just few hours I'd rate it 7/10.

Hmmm that's not so good. I had exactly the same thing with Assassin's Creed as you, GeRaLTo. I finished the first mission, and when i noticed i practically had to do th same things in the next mission it got boring real soon.

But there isn't anything else to it? No sidequests?

Im during second mission right now but unfortunatelly its more of the same. You have some places to liberate ( quarry, farm etc ), some caves to visit to rescure slaves ( save a citizien in AssCreed anyone? ) but it means killing same enemies all over again. I'd rather see more epic battles like those @ the end of each island. Dont get me wrong tho...game is quite cool but repetitive . Im hoping to get some extra powers or weapons for my character ......

Gotta post something later. Peace.

Nah not really, AC was a big dissapointment. It got boring real quickly...i only finished it because i wanted to see what was gonna happen in the story.

But there ain't really any sidequests in this game? So basically it's like...walking around on those island..exploring some caves and other areas..fighting enemies and eventually those huge fights?

That's a bit strange, 'cos a lot of the interviews have discussed Viking's 'side quests'.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just lie about that sorta thing.

Exactly. In AC U had to complete amount of sidequest(?) before game let U assassin Ur target. In Viking You complete sidequest to incrase Ur army ( but there is no way You can command it and it only appears during some quests ( ex : destroy elite patrol - U basically open Ur map and press A on patrols location, chaotic battle begins..and eventually ends). After completing enough sidequest U can attack main camp, castle wotever. Ahh and there is another kind of ANNOYING quest where You gotta sneak thru enemy base (with a lot of enemies )to reach something ( portal, barracks etc) Problem with sneaking is that Ur character is GLOWING (wtf) so You have no idea how to use shadow or objects to Ur advantage.

More impressions will follow later...if any1 still interested in them.

So you ain't too happy with your purchase it seems? having serious doubts now whether to get it or not. I might wait for a pricedrop or when i can get a 2nd hand copy. What about the enemy A.I. ? Are they really a challenge at all or is that also kinda easy?
