Epic and Microsoft drop the bomb and release the first gameplay video of Gears of War 2. Two minutes of extreme violence and fire, for what appears to be an explosive hyperbole of the first title. Visually, it looks stunning.
Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)
Loakum By FAR, the upcoming Game of Thrones King’s Road was the Game of the Show! It plays like God of War Ragnarok! :) (> 3 Months ago)

what impresses me... Hmm. Mirrors edge seems to be pushing some boundaries. Farcry2's scope and new weather/wind system is impressive. KZ2's death animations are cool as is the DMM in Starwars force unleashed.

Commented on 2008-05-10 13:40:33 In reply to nobeliumI don't know what you expected from this Gears, but this is exactly what I wanted. Like Grift said, some people just love to talk shit for the sake of it.
But yeah, you enjoy your "ability to sprint" and "1st person cover system" in Killzone 2 ('cos seriously, those are the only features that i've seen come out of Killzone 2) whilst i'm having chainsaw duels and holding up a locust that's getting the shit ripped out of it. I know which one sounds more enjoyable :)

Meat shields would be great in MP, but what I hope for is a better code so that the host advantage won't be insane. We'll get new info about it next month, right ?
Commented on 2008-05-10 13:42:28 In reply to statixThe truth is, however, that I think the underlying game in Gears is absolutely incredible. I hate all the superficial design choices, but when you truly get into it I think it's a fantastic game. I'm a gamer before I'm an art critic and ultimately I'm pretty happy to experience good games even when they look a bit rough.
That said, I'm not thrilled about diving back into this drab void-of-surprise world to play a nearly identical game a second time, and as such this video is really disappointing to me. Halo is just never going to be topped by one note gameplay and enemy types, and I foolishly believed a second go round would address that fact.
I'll still play it though.

But you're right, they're not death animations. Euphoria tech is awesome though, I'll concede to that point. Far Cry 2's scope isn't even the most appealing aspect of the game thus far, as it's been done before, many, many times.. and it's far from a sure thing.

If he's talking about the CES footage of a guy torqing a wall and having shit come out- that isn't the same. It isn't even close to DMM. Get over it.

Commented on 2008-05-10 13:52:15Aside from that, they basically did improve the number of onscreen effects and increase the quality of the textures and framerate. Really though, was more expected? The original still looks better than anything else currently on the PS3 or X360.(I have all 3 consoles, just making a base statement not a fanboy remark)
Commented on 2008-05-10 13:52:25 In reply to nobeliumAnd once again, what were you expecting? If you were expecting the game to look 'leaps and bounds' better than a game that already set visual standards for a console game, you will be disappointed i'm afraid.
All I wanted for Gears 2 on the other hand was an improvement in visuals (which, despite your reluctance to accept it, is true), more gameplay features, a better story and a better MP. It appears as though Gears 2 is on the way to giving me all of that. Therefore, like a lot of other Gears fans, i'm dead happy.

If you can mange to wrap you head around the idea that I never said it didn't look better than yay for you. It doesn't look THAT much better. It looks maybe 5% better than the first game. Maybe.
EDIT:
I was expecting better animations and a video that made me excited for the game. AS A GEARS FAN, that video did not impress me. They will have to a bit more than that to get me excited.

I already know that I bet I will pget this game on day one, play it a few days and then return it. Because I am not a big fan of Gears, but I do think it is cool.
It is hardly a stealth game because everybody goes crazy around and shooting.
But once close enough you can CQC and hold them as shield and use your handgun as a weapon to kill the enemies.
I would know that because I was in the beta playing hours of it, hardly any stealth as a SP game is.
It has been done in MP that is not driven by an AI.
If that is what you meant of course, maybe I am wrong. If so, then my bad.
But for a fast paced shooter as Gears, this might take some time to even get close.
You are either sniped from far away or getting killed by a shotgun when you are close.
The only way to do that, I think you have to do what you do in Gears.
You keep shooting in the legs until they go down then you go close to pick them up and use them as shield.
I even doubt this enemy shield move will come in handy anyway.
I rather chainsaw them and kill them and get my point for it, rather their teammate kills me and revives their player.
