Xbox 360 PS3

Microsoft showed some of their console's upcoming RPGs in Japan today, and a bunch of trailers were released on the Marketplace. First out here is Star Ocean 4, and we might have a 720p version up here later. The trailer confirms a 2009 release and nothing about Playstation 3.
Update: Trailer captures added.
Update 2: Added the 720p trailer.

I have a 60G PS3 so I don't care.

To the people that say that there is no benefits for installation are ignorant 360 fanboys.

Anyway SO4 look nice. Yes its 360 exclusive for now but they will announce a PS3 version later just like they will do for Last Remnant.

Er, not really. Timed exclusive as of now, but that may change depending on Japanese fan response to this (there was a reson why they waited so long to announce a platform and why they announced Tales of Vesperia on the 360 in a U.S. magazine first; they were afraid of JP fan backlash). Not to mention that this was a Microsoft event so they couldn't exactly talk PS3 versions.

The PS3 version of Last Remnant was announced at the same time as the 360 version. However, the PS3 version was delayed due to a probable mix of UE3/PS3 issues that almost every developer seems to have in addition to a timed exclusivity deal signed with MS (most likely covering advertisement costs).

WOw WOW

RPG for Xbox360.....CoOoL!!!

Even if its coming to the PS3....xbox360 owners will play it + finish it before PS3 owners......I think thats enough for xbox fans!

But still the BEST Rpg ever in the past or the future is Final Fantasy
.....which is a PS3 exclusive!!!.....and thats enough for PS3 fans!

(Thank god i have both consoles)

The guys at Square are really shooting themselves in the foot by making all these 360 exclusive games. Look at Enchanted Arms and Eternal Sonata. Those publishers realized they made a horrible mistake, and both games went to PS3 eventually. I mean even Ninja Gaiden 2 sold only 20,000 copies in Japan on day one. That's pathetic.

As for this game itself, it really doesn't interest me. Star Ocean has always seemed too cookie-cutter. When Square decides to make a proper Chrono or Parasite Eve sequel, or something that is actually innovative, give me a call!

Neither Eternal sonata nor Enchanted Arms where ever Xbox 360 exclusive, they where developed for the platform due it was much more cost effective to do so, you can read that a few times from Namco and the reason why most of there RPG's comes to Xbox 360 first, even there new tales of game.

Both games sold quite well to for being an RPG, and sold as much as any RPG done so far to PS3 ( Disgaea 3 granted but only sold 110k and the install base is 10 times more PS3's in japan then Xbox 360 where eg lost odyssey and eternal sonata sold around 100k to to a much much much smaller install base )

Sorry, but no. I own a PS3, and can assure you that the install does almost nothing in every PS3 game I own. The load times are every so slightly cut down from the 360 versions. I think GTA IV is one of the best examples, where the 7-8 second load times on the 360, are cut down to about 4-5. It's really not something you'd notice, certainly not a big deal.

And besides, I was simply pointing out that I'd rather have to switch disc mid game, rather than have to sit through another install period, which is far more annoying, in my opinion.

Dude common.... You WILL NOT die if you play the game 15 minutes after getting home. Installing the game will only give you benefits, and if you have a 20 gig ps3 which not many people do, you can easily and inexpesively upgrade the HDD as opposed to the 360 in order to have enough space for several game installations. Why you wont accept that it is to the players advantage to cut down on loading times is simply blindness.
Its even more idiotic to say that you'll rather stop playing in the middle of your adventure to switch a disc instead of getting ready for it beforehand and sitting comfortably in your couch the whole time. You sir are in one word, a FANBOY.

you will not die if you dont either, your arguing over something no one cares about! Taking up space on your PS3 HDD is a bigger problem than waiting an extra 2 or 3 seconds between loads..move on please

As someone said after awhile people will need to remove older games to play new games....which is annoying!

I never noticed to benefit from installing PS3 games. It’s just making up some disadvantages.

So it’s finally out that SO4 is on Xbox 360… I kind of like that because everyone was saying “it’s coming out for PS3” and such.
Owning both system I don’t really care but it’s cool that all these baised guys are proved wrong. It’s like Nelson says: “Ha Ha!”

Well lets see what Tri-Ace is coming up with.

This is the one for Lost Odyssey from the Feb 2008 NPD US Sales Data
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10191438&postcount=1
360 CALL OF DUTY 4: MODERN WARFARE* ACTIVISION 7-Nov 296.2K 1
360 DEVIL MAY CRY 4* CAPCOM USA 8-Feb 295.2K 2
WII PLAY W/ REMOTE NINTENDO OF AMERICA 7-Feb 289.7K 3
PS3 DEVIL MAY CRY 4* CAPCOM USA 8-Feb 233.5K 4
WII GUITAR HERO III: LEGENDS OF ROCK* ACTIVISION 7-Oct 222.9K 5
NDS MARIO AND SONIC: OLYMPIC GAMES SEGA OF AMERICA 8-Jan 205.6K 6
360 LOST ODYSSEY MICROSOFT 8-Feb 203.6K 7
360 TUROK TOUCHSTONE 8-Jan 197.7K 8
PS2 GUITAR HERO III: LEGENDS OF ROCK* ACTIVISION 7-Oct 183.8K 9
360 ROCK BAND* MTV GAMES/ELECTRONIC ARTS 7-Nov 161.8K 10"
Now how many JRPG achieved that status without being called a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest? :hehe: And that's just first month of sales...I'm pretty sure other people bought the game after its initial release.

Another thing I'd like to point out for that is despite LO being within the same month as Devil May Cry, it still got pretty good sales.

While I cannot find the other statistics right now, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata have at least gotten 50,000 sales which is the default average sale of a JRPG title in the US.

And compare that with this...

Here's the March 2008 NPD Sales Data
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279520
Top-Selling VG Software - March 2008

Platform Title Publisher Release Date March Units
WII SUPER SMASH BROS: BRAWL NINTENDO OF AMERICA Mar-08 2.7M

WII PLAY W/ REMOTE NINTENDO OF AMERICA Feb-07 409.8K
PSP GOD OF WAR: CHAINS OF OLYMPUS SONY Mar-08 340.5K
PSP CRISIS CORE: FINAL FANTASY VII SQUARE ENIX INC Mar-08 301.6K
WII GUITAR HERO III: LEGENDS OF ROCK ACTIVISION Oct-07 264.1K

PS3 ARMY OF TWO ELECTRONIC ARTS Mar-08 224.9K
FEB 2008 NPD
360 LOST ODYSSEY MICROSOFT 8-Feb 203.6K

While its not for a major platform check out the sales of Final Fantasy Crisis Core. Interesting eh? While its definitely higher than Lost Odyssey, its surprising that a no-name game (with no franchise origins) got decent sales in a platform that is considered to be an FPS box and is more expensive than a PSP.

Of course lets see the much anticipated sales of a Final Fantasy title (a prequel to the most popular FF series...FF7) did against an FPS title. I haven't played FF Crisis Core but I've heard a lot of positive rave about it from my friends who also follow JRPGs. It's not a bad title but looking at the sales data below:

360 TOM CLANCY'S RAINBOW SIX: VEGAS 2 UBISOFT Mar-08 752.3K
PSP CRISIS CORE: FINAL FANTASY VII SQUARE ENIX INC Mar-08 301.6K

Wow...that's quite a lead for Rainbox Six Vegas there. And considering the platform 360 is much expensive than the PSP that is certainly impressive and to some extent shows a hint of the extent of the JRPG 'dream' influence.
