Microsoft showed some of their console's upcoming RPGs in Japan today, and a bunch of trailers were released on the Marketplace. First out here is Star Ocean 4, and we might have a 720p version up here later. The trailer confirms a 2009 release and nothing about Playstation 3.
Update: Trailer captures added.
Update 2: Added the 720p trailer.

Anyway SO4 look nice. Yes its 360 exclusive for now but they will announce a PS3 version later just like they will do for Last Remnant.

Commented on 2008-06-10 20:38:58RPG for Xbox360.....CoOoL!!!
Even if its coming to the PS3....xbox360 owners will play it + finish it before PS3 owners......I think thats enough for xbox fans!
But still the BEST Rpg ever in the past or the future is Final Fantasy
.....which is a PS3 exclusive!!!.....and thats enough for PS3 fans!
(Thank god i have both consoles)
Commented on 2008-06-10 20:44:56As for this game itself, it really doesn't interest me. Star Ocean has always seemed too cookie-cutter. When Square decides to make a proper Chrono or Parasite Eve sequel, or something that is actually innovative, give me a call!
Commented on 2008-06-10 21:00:56Both games sold quite well to for being an RPG, and sold as much as any RPG done so far to PS3 ( Disgaea 3 granted but only sold 110k and the install base is 10 times more PS3's in japan then Xbox 360 where eg lost odyssey and eternal sonata sold around 100k to to a much much much smaller install base )

And besides, I was simply pointing out that I'd rather have to switch disc mid game, rather than have to sit through another install period, which is far more annoying, in my opinion.

Its even more idiotic to say that you'll rather stop playing in the middle of your adventure to switch a disc instead of getting ready for it beforehand and sitting comfortably in your couch the whole time. You sir are in one word, a FANBOY.

As someone said after awhile people will need to remove older games to play new games....which is annoying!

Commented on 2008-06-11 00:05:01So it’s finally out that SO4 is on Xbox 360… I kind of like that because everyone was saying “it’s coming out for PS3” and such.
Owning both system I don’t really care but it’s cool that all these baised guys are proved wrong. It’s like Nelson says: “Ha Ha!”
Well lets see what Tri-Ace is coming up with.

PS2 GUITAR HERO III: LEGENDS OF ROCK* ACTIVISION 7-Oct 183.8K 9
360 ROCK BAND* MTV GAMES/ELECTRONIC ARTS 7-Nov 161.8K 10"
Another thing I'd like to point out for that is despite LO being within the same month as Devil May Cry, it still got pretty good sales.
While I cannot find the other statistics right now, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata have at least gotten 50,000 sales which is the default average sale of a JRPG title in the US.
And compare that with this...
Here's the March 2008 NPD Sales Data

360 LOST ODYSSEY MICROSOFT 8-Feb 203.6K
While its not for a major platform check out the sales of Final Fantasy Crisis Core. Interesting eh? While its definitely higher than Lost Odyssey, its surprising that a no-name game (with no franchise origins) got decent sales in a platform that is considered to be an FPS box and is more expensive than a PSP.
Of course lets see the much anticipated sales of a Final Fantasy title (a prequel to the most popular FF series...FF7) did against an FPS title. I haven't played FF Crisis Core but I've heard a lot of positive rave about it from my friends who also follow JRPGs. It's not a bad title but looking at the sales data below:
360 TOM CLANCY'S RAINBOW SIX: VEGAS 2 UBISOFT Mar-08 752.3K
PSP CRISIS CORE: FINAL FANTASY VII SQUARE ENIX INC Mar-08 301.6K
Wow...that's quite a lead for Rainbox Six Vegas there. And considering the platform 360 is much expensive than the PSP that is certainly impressive and to some extent shows a hint of the extent of the JRPG 'dream' influence.
