Fans can rejoice ! We are now June 12th, 2008 (in Europe at least :p) and Metal Gear Solid 4 is officially available in every good shop of the civilized world. About our traditionnal First 10 Minutes, we offer you the long introduction cut-scene of the game as well as three gameplay clips from the 1st Act. The shorter one showcases some combat in the streets of the Bagdad-like city you start your journey in, the second one a memorable attack of the Frogs - very powerful bionic foes that jump like frogs and walk on the walls - in an abandoned hotel, and finally a moderately discreet sneaking sequence in Liquid's camp. Enjoy !
Update2: All the files are finally online.

(I'm not saying it's like Second Sight)

Commented on 2008-06-13 16:48:17The cutscenes seem to be getting even longer and more often now, at the end of act 1 theres a 20 min scene followed by a 3 min install followed by another 20 - 30 min scene.
Commented on 2008-06-13 19:20:09 In reply to RuneXThe graphics are not perfect, they do look really good, but it seems a bit bland to me. It suffers from most of the issues NG2 seems to aside from framerate inconsistancy. Some areas are nice, some are boring, animations are iffy at times too.
As I and others have mentioned, the AI is terrible, but thats only on the easiest setting. I think they really did a disservice by all but removing the AI on the easiest mode. Just adding health and reducing damage would have been enough, but instead I can walk up to people who are supposed to be after me and point a gun in thier face, then shoot before they get mad. Its utterly unacceptable for a game thats rated M(Cero 17 or whatever here in japan).
To the people who think the cutscenes add to the flow, I disagree. While they are pretty, as mentioned before, they are really drawn out. I shouldnt be falling asleep during cutscenes when im playing in the middle of the afternoon. Im a big fan of cutscenes in games, espeically RPGs, but the ones in this game just dont seem to have any relevance to anything.(such as the one in the beggining when thier diving or the eggs in a pan. Hopefully this doesnt spoil anything)
The audio also seems to be hit and miss, with the music basically not being there or being really boring. The sound effects are top tier though and some of the humor so far is kinda funny.
Basically, while only 5 hours in, Ive felt that the gameplay is really fun but the things surrounding it are tedious, boring, and overly drawn out. Its like they forced too much into the game and it hurts it imo. However, based on the gameplay alone Id still say it was a worthy purchase and as mentioned, would suggest it to anyone with a PS3. Would I have bought a PS3 for the game, as someone who has hated every MGS to date, I would say no for myself. Even if I was a fan though, Id probably say its not good enough to warrant a console purchase. Thier are better reasons to own a PS3.
Edit: MGS Online caused me some issues as well and is far from perfect. Played for a short time in practice modes but it took over 3 hours just to set it up(differant time from the main game) This is because it literally killed my PS3 when it tried to update and I had to restore the database and reinstall it multiple times. The once I get in, it had me register but that got all bogged down and annoying. Once I got on, I felt like it was a very limited experience. Paying for more characters? Very limited stages? not a very diverse selection for the character creation either. However, there were a lot of really nice options and I saw a lot of room for future growth so I have hopes for it. I only played the trial practice matches, so I cant judge the actual online gameplay yet(nor could I with about 1hour of actual playtime online to begin with) But so far its not been a pleasant experience online. Sony really should have a universal login system like live, it really goes a long way imo.
You can play a crippled online mode!
I hate you and your arrogant comments!!! Whatever, IGN said it was worth 11/10! In fact, they also said DOAX was 9/10! And they also said that Commandos is better--scored--on the PS3! And.......
*starts crying*

Commented on 2008-06-13 20:03:00I would have to agree that most of cutscenes are drawn out for too long. The dialogue could have easily gotten to the point much quicker, but the characters just ramble on and on about next to nothing.
Commented on 2008-06-13 20:08:41I'd also rather play some good co-op game then this..
Commented on 2008-06-13 20:08:55My GOTY, sorry NG2, but you dissapointed a bit.

Commented on 2008-06-13 22:07:49a very very good contender for GOTY, but i still have my eyes open for resistance 2 later this year.:D
Commented on 2008-06-13 22:50:54the game looks good but sometimes just oke(because of empty environments)and other times(when battling in busy streets or in the snow against the frog and especially the in-game movies)just drop dead gorgeous.
and second the gameplay is awesome but there are just thing that are over-rust like shooting in first person that could use some good fine tuning.
and then is the ai that is sometimes not only disappointing but gets (at least me) you sometimes out of the game.
because you get the most spectacular intro of a enemy doing all crazy shit.
but in the game it nothing near the awesomeness in the movie.
but if you are a true metal gear fan (like me)you dont care for those issues.
but here is my point ....i think a reviewer should a have a clear view of the game and my not have any preference or be a fan of a game.
because a review is made for people to see if it is worth buying and what is good and what not.
so a 10 out of 10 is really out of place(just like halo 3).
but the game is awesome in my eyes and a worthy curtain closer.

Commented on 2008-06-15 02:00:07Problem is no other game on the PS3 (besides Little Big Planet to an extent) looks good, so this is really the only game that interests me at all on the PS3. I don't think i'd spend my money on a PS3 just to buy one game, as great as it does look. Got plenty of games to look forward to on my 360 though such as Gears 2, Fable 2 and co. Hey, maybe they'll port this to the 360 one day? ;)
Still, looks brilliant and certainly a GOTY contender.

I looked on IGN, they didnt give it a perfect score, unless of course you are referring to the AU review, which is garbage. Check game rankings, this game has not got anything on any other game out this generation review wise...lol.
Commented on 2008-06-15 11:16:36 In reply to DrebinPointsAnd in all honesty, when MGS series has such a rediculously small install base, how do you expect everybody in here to like it?
Only people riding Konami's nutsac would say this game is a 10/10.
GTA:IV probably ain't deserve a 10/10...if that makes you feel better, but i would rate GTA higher, for obvious reasons.
Move on PS3 fanboys, and stop egging them on 360 fanboys.
Commented on 2008-06-15 14:09:28All the slagging off on the Gears 2 gameplay trailer which led to it actually being locked, and now the exact same thing is occurring with this MGS video.
It's pathetic - I don't even own a PS3, but that doesn't mean I have to slate it because it won't be coming to my console. As much as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo would like to convince you, gaming is not a competition - it's about picking the console that is right for you and enjoying the games you have on it.
I couldn't care less that I don't own a PS3. Sure there are great games coming out on it that I would like to play like MGS and Little Big Planet, but i'm more than happy with the games coming out for the 360.
Just because a great game is coming out but it won't be on your console, doesn't mean you have to start slagging the console or the game off.
Boulet this please.
