Xbox 360

Microsoft unveiled the new Xbox 360 user interface yesterday, and released this trailer showing how it will look like.

Wait, is the new dash set on top of a floating 360 orb? interesting...

I'm still not sure about the style of the dash, I'm slowly warming to it, maybe. But the new guide is a MAJOR improvement. I'll take that definitely.

8p chat is pretty bitchin as well.

Not sure based on this brief look... seems a little too bare bones and even perhaps ps3-ish?

But I do think the Blades have gotten very old. They look clunky and not modern anymore.

The commercial really offended my sensibilities, and I think that may be the true source of a lot of the backlash. I don't want to have a stupid song and a bunch of "360 = happy family" propaganda crammed down my throat, and that muddies the water for me. Just looking at the features, though, I think this could be a good thing.

Ads like that are one of the major reasons the Wii is doing so well. (Although ironically Nintendo basically ripped off the original Japanese Xbox360 ads. I guess those ads don't work quite as well in Japan though. :( )

Looks SO much cleaner than the current blades scheme.
aCan't wait to get my gruby little mits all over this update.
I also like the idea of ripping games to the HDD, although I guess that means I need to upgrade to the 120GB to make full use of that.

Whats wrong with it? People are saying 'blah blah blah, sacrificing function for style...'

If you look closely, they're really not. Each section is still split in to categories (just like blades) but instead of having to select your option by pressing down until you get to it, you now just press up. Not an entirely different process, and the in-game guide looks a lot better now too.

This looks much more like Windows Media Center style than Wii to be honest, and it looks a lot less childish than the 'playschool' colour scheme currently branding the dashboard.

As i said before. I'm expecting gamerpic and theme refunds from Microsoft in the form of microsoft points. OR ELSE... We are alot of people that have spent over 50 dollars in total over the past 2 years on gamerpics/themes.
Thats a whole new game's worth of cash that is rendered utterly useless by this update, so they better fuckin refund it all. If you excuse my language.

Well unlike some people, I absolutely love the new dashboard design. I even love the avatars - much more expressive and fun than gamerpics and themes in my opinion. I really can't wait for this redesign to come into action, whenever that is.

Saying that, expect a significantly sized angry mob if people don't get some sort of refund on their gamerpics and themes.

I love it too, the look of it that is. But apparantly that blog-thing noted that the themes ARE useable in the new dashboard.. I suppose the grey background could be replaced by the images in the themes, fading between them as you swap left and right in different tabs.

I want to kill the avatars. No xbox owner likes them. And they are NOT a reason for a purchase!!!

Someone stop'em!!!

BTW what happens to the themes they even sold? unuseable anymore?

I really need ability to rip games to the HDD, because I can tell my DVD drive is on its last legs. If it completely fails then I'm still screwed, but this is a great solution for the interim where it limps around slowly.

I like them. Again, I don't really see how it's any different from using gamer pictures. Only now there's a slightly more personal representation of each player. Certainly not a reason to go out and buy the system, but a definate improvement, and I see no reason why anyone is kicking up such a fuss.

And it's already been said, themes can still be used with the new dashboard.

I'll use whatever is faster.. I'm still annoyed by how slow the dashboard menu's sometimes are.. MS can improve the caching a lot, that's for sure..
