Xbox 360 PS3

Snoopers is still struggling to upload anything from the showfloor, and it's a real shame since we have tons of great stuff waiting. But still, he managed to upload this great video of Prince of Persia showing the whole demo level. What an amazing game.
We'll have a more detailed walkthrough video online in a few days.

Not only the voicework sound out of place, the dialogue, and the voice directing don't fit well with the whole art-style and theme of this game.
Yeah my only gripe with this game-footage. It's not that the voice acting is bad, it just really doesn't fit a Persian prince, and the POP "universe".

It looks absolutely stunning and fun to play though :)

They say that it's a sandbox game and that you can choose your own path. Is it just me or did it look very linear?
For the demo, they wanted one path.
But they say you can go either way.

One thing I hate about this game right now anyways is the voice over.
Theres nothing persian about the prince :S
There is no accent and he sounds like pure american which is ridiculous.

VERY bad decision from Ubi to go all american with the prince, where is the accent.
They pulled some great accent in AC why not do the same here.
Anyway, I hate the voice acting for the prince and considering we will hear alot from him its not gonna be easy.

WHAT ???? why did the prince in the original trilogy have a Persian accent ??? Come on people, with all due respect, what you're suggesting is ridiculous.

What are you telling us that a prince of persia was schooled in the US ? perhaps brought up in the US ? or perhaps you are even saying he is actually American.

Now that my friend is ridiculous.

Er, Alimo is saying that he shouldn't even speak english in the first place if you wanna go down the "correct accent" route. It's pointless to argue that any english accent would be "appropriate".

This is chosen based on what type of character he is, anything else would be meaningless.

And for everyone's information; he is not even remotely royalty in this game.

Huh simon thats just bizarre, there is a huge difference between someone who is supposed to be persian speaking english with an american accent, than say getting an Iranian speaking eglish person to voice the part, or an english speaking actor at least pretending to sound Iranian.

I can't believe you are just brushing it off, when for many it could provide a much more immersive experience if he actually sounded the part, its like having a tomb raider game and Lara having an Southern American accent.

He's not supposed to be persian speaking english, that's my point!

It's supposed to just capture the spirit of the character, because it's ludicrous that he'd even be speaking english at all.

And the Lara comparison is weak. It's more like having Lara speak italian with an english accent IN england and all her pals speak italian to her aswell.

Well d'uh!

But he is because the english language is forced upon everyone... Uh I mean we couldn't understand him otherwise, and I don't think fans would be happy with subtitles.

You are taking this way out of context though, all people want is for him to sound authentic, and hearing him with an American accent is just jarring.

Yeah, it seems more authentic for a wandering thug to sound like a posh brit... Or does it..!?

No..Posh Brit, no American smart ass, no Irish, no Australian, no Swedish accents, But...how about...hmm..i dunno, MIDDLE-EASTERN accent?! Now THAT would fit perfectly wouldn't we all agree?

And i can understand why Ubisoft rather stick with the north-american accent: " Well, Young males between 12-28 want to hear clear, safe good ol' american accents so they don't have to trouble their heads with weird accents." - It's safer.

Niko Bellic is the perfect example of companies willingness to take the risk, and go with the authentic accent. It certainly worked with GTA.

Well in the old days some people learned english from other countries...ever seen Lawrence of Arabia? (one my favorite movies).

They can speak english (let's say prince learned it) but the accent is just too american to take him as a persian and is stupid to listen and I can't see him as a persian considering it says "prince of PERSIA".
Just annoying really.

Now I am persian myself, and I have accent and it shows when I speak english, even I can do the voice over for the prince and it would sound better and real than what they got now.

Ubi used so much good accents in Assassin's Creed when you went to like Damascus or another middle eastern type city, why couldn't they just use the same formula.

Samething goes with Elika, but her background is unkown so I won't bother with that.

Yeah, but they could easily add subtitles.
And believe me I am surrounded by many persians and I have heard young people speak english and the accent shows they are not native but the accent is so good enough that everyone could understand.

And yeah Niko Bellic is the perfect example to going that route.

It's just that if they want good potrayed character to be as believeble as possible they wouldn't choose a pure american voice for the prince...to begin with.

But I thought they would change it this time, but no.

And now I have to listen to the prince talk in the game with his american accent and not see him as a persian but yet another generic character saving the world.

Actually i't would be really great if players could choose between English or Persian. I know, it's never gonna happen but, it certainly would be a treat to play the game with Persian ( a.k.a Farsi ?- im not sure, but Sath can correct me if im wrong ) With English subtitles.

Personally i think it would fit the games style and settings ( well, D'uh!) perfectly. I mean, they have to translate it to French, Spanish, Italian, Germany anyways ! Why not throw in a Persian language option aswell ?

If there is a petition somehwere, i would sign it in a heartbeat.

Pez, it would be too much to throw in farsi (yes its correct) for the game, I would be happily satistfied if they gave the prince some middle eastern accent to his english so his character becomes much more believable.

But they didn't and they are stupid enough to go all american on such a character, considering they want to go for the story and characters, the prince (even Elika) is not even believeable when they don't have a accent.

It's gonna be very hard for me and for those who actually care about such detail to avoid this within cutscenes.

They could easily choose a accent from AC considering they had alot of english spoken characters with middle eastern accent to it.
A shame really, something this small gets noticed so much.

GTA is set in a real, modern world. Prince of Persia is a fairy tale. It would be idiotic that Elika and him would be speaking english to one another if the language is given that kind of significance at all. Even GTA makes a deal out two cousins speaking english when they'd realistically speak russian, what excuse would these people have? Giving them accents acknowledges that they're actually speaking english, and that's just retarded.

I've no idea how you people made it through something like 300 alive.

In Sands of Time, because they wanted the prince to sound very aristocratic, they choce a british, posh accent. It's because we associate it subconciously with royalty. See God of War (where nobody speaks greek, by the way) for instance, where being spoken to by gods essentially amounts to being adressed by a bunch of high strung english people. This isn't really news, this is how it's been done for quite a while, and successfully at that.

So here where they wanna nail the mood of a character that is supposed to be the rough, looking-out-for-himself vagabond type, they picked an american sort of Mad Maxish voice for him.

SimonM7 has some really valid points, im not denying that at all..infact that 300 comment was spot on, i didn't have any problems with 300, so why am i having issues with this then? Honestly, i have no idea.

But something really bothers me with the voicework in the game ( Althou' i have heard, what? 3 lines , so yeah, i should give the game a change) Since the very first time i saw the footage and heard the prince, the voice and accent really stood out in a negative way in my mind.

And i believe that they could totally achieve that rough and looking-out-for-himself kinda character with the Middle-eastern accent aswell, why not ?

I still hold my point that in AC they used accent in middle eastern area and it would work here, but whatever.
They ain't gonna change it so I am not gonna bother anymore.

The problem I have with the voice is that he almost sounds like Jansen from LO, he sounds like a boy. I agree with Simon here. He doesn't need to have an accent, that'd actually implay that he forces himself to speak engish wich is pretty weird. He needs a vagabond voice.

Hopefully the voice is better in our localized version, altho I doubt it since the acting always suffers.

That's just it though, his voice would seem more at home in a light-hearted commercial about some brand of orange juice. It really doesn't even seem like they tried to get a suitable voice.
