Microsoft tries to outdo the excellent "Mad World" ad of Gears of War with this new video done by the same team. Gears of War 2 will be released in 2 weeks. Update: 720p version added.
The MAD WORLD ad was more intriguing in part because everybody knew there was a huge game behind it, the expectations were sky-high, the hype was extreme. When the game launched it didn't fully lived upon the hype, lots of promised stuff was missing, game was too short and didn't have that epicness of story in it.
The effect of this new song for gears2 remains great but shallow, for everybody knows the game retains some of the same issues from the first one. It has already been played out, has the exact same ending and a lot of those shallow story concepts behind it. Once again, a great step from the team, microsoft has some of the best advertisement we have seen this generation, although some of the biggest game have been 1.5 versions of the original xbox games(halo, fable, ninja gaiden) but the hype they generate is amazing.

Still, what promised stuff was missing from the first Gears ? The campaign was short, that's a fact, but the multi was awesome and the game had online and split screen coop !

Well the game's narrative turned out to be a bag of bricks in the head in contrast to the subtleness of the Mad World trailer, so I'm not letting this one get to me.
It's too bad the sophisticated pretend layers these moody commercials bring to the games aren't actually based on real layers within the games themselves. Maybe they could work on integrating moments like this in the final experience instead of teasing you, then blasting generic, loud, man-plot in your face.

and it's very sad, when it happens. heavenly sword, legacy of kain series, god of war series or even MGS4 should have had a commercial like this, this suits a game that is very story driven.
