First 10 minutes Xbox 360 PS3

Fist of the Northstar: Ken's Rage was finally released this week in North America and Europe. Far from being one of this year's blockbusters, the game will mostly appeal to the fans of the anime and those who enjoy the genre and are not too picky. So here are three videos showing the first 20 minutes of the game.

I know it's true to the original but I'm just not fond of the 80s Rick Springfield look. Plus I'd rather see some classic side scrolling in 3D. I hope the graphics are not final.

Given this is the retail version, I'd say stop hoping. ;p

I think it's safe to assume that this is for the fans of the manga and anime only. I played the demo and the gameplay certainly isn't fantastic...if you like Hokuto no Ken this might be interesting, but i don't think gameplay alone can carry it.

Agree'd I don't think the graphics are that horrendeous either, with this type of game you shouldn't go in expecting too much anyway.

Ive been playing it for a while, jumping back and forth between this Naruto:UNS2 and NBA 2k11. If you loved the anime, you will probably like this as far as a rent(or buy in my case)(didn't pay full retail price). Either way, its fun to me, brings back memories. Like Megido said, its mainly for fans of the anime and manga of course. Not many people outside will understand nor like it.

Hmm....after watching these videos i think i might have changed my mind about this game. I was going to buy it come next paycheck, but now i don't klnow...feels like i might as well just watch teh anime again and spare myself the tedium of the slow, stiff combat in the game :P

Then again i have a feeling that the price will plummet pretty fast for this one. Maybe i'll get it used or something :\

As for teh graphics, they are pretty damn shitty, i have to say. Trying not to mind the ratehr boring color scheme the animations are terrible for just about everyone except the player characters and major NPCs. The exploding bodies look more like the mishaps of a nooby rigging artist than bodyparts bursting. The PC's need more polygons as well, it's especially noticeable in the cutscenes.

I could excuse most of this stuff if the game had been 10-15 bucks cheaper but at full price it seems like i could spend my money better elsewhere. It's kind of sad as i would have liked this game to be good, but i guess taht's expecting too much...licese tite + japan is not a good combination in todays gaming market it seems ;)

DRIFTWOOD!! PLEASE SHOW SOME HIGHER LEVEL (techniques and mainly character growth) GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE!!

The demo is non indicative of the final product..i played it and considered cancelling my reservation..got this game and can't put it down..The variety in character playstyles, the carrot on the stick leveling towards highly destructive super attacks..the visceral combat..and the ability to cancel out of any attack just all feels beautiful..this a no brainer for a HNK/FOTNS fan, and for beat'em fans, this may end up being a sleeper..at least rent it, you will not regret it, the most UN dynasty warriors combat wise and the best of them for it.

it was a horrible demo, it turned me off too. :(
the full game is solid.. if you've ever enjoyed the source material, you owe it to yourself and Yuria, to at least rent it!

the demo is a horrible indicator..who ever put it together deserves to be demoted, it did no justice to one of the only beat'em ups this gen Worth the asking price.

i'm pretty sure the retail copy will be just as crappy. both visually, control wise and gameplay wise. let me guess, you pound buttons untill you can do a special (stupid looking and sounding) move? movement is twitchy and unresponsive? voice acting is laughably bad? yeah. that's what the demo was like. i dont want to pay for a full game that's like that. hell, i dont even want to RENT a full game that's like that.

To be fair though, the controls arent that bad once you get used to them. It takes a little while but after going through teh demo a few times i had no problem controlling either Ken or Rei.

couldnt play it more then once through with each char. too crappy. pulling off the limited move set wasnt an issue, actually moving around was, or getting in a VERY specific area to pick something up or climb a wall. it was possibly the clunkiest game i've played this gen. it was like those games that despite having 2 analogue sticks decide to use 1 for both movement AND turning. kinda like resi 5. it boggles the mind why you would use such an unintuative, clunky method of control. especially when SO many games have done it right prior to it. common issue with japanese developed games tho. they dont seem to look at what has come before and have done it well, they often do it their own way, and it ends up feeling weird.

Sounds to me that you are exaggerating quite a lot. It's not perfect but it's not the disaster you make it out to be. You have to aim your attacks and once you get it down you can start kicking ass witha lot more flow to it. I think it's a bit unfair to judge a game based on a single playthough of a 10 minute demo.

Also, the voice acting isn't bad at all. The japanese voiceovers sound pretty much like the anime. If you are of the lazy american type that gets a headache from reading subtitles then...well, too abd for you i guess. And how is the Hokuto Hundred Crack Fist silly in any way? Kenshiro and supporting cast is fucking badass. End of discussion.

But as i said earlier, if you don't like Hokuto No Ken you'll probably find very little to like here, but at least whine about the stuff that deserves it. Like the assy NPC animations, the shitty models, bland environments and repetitive nature of the Musou games.

i wish it was. but a human shouldnt control like a large truck with no wheels. and it shouldnt be so picky where you need to stand to do actions. not when trying to move into place only makes the character jolt unaturally, making any hope of lining yourself up nigh on impossible. they've taken what should be fluid, precise and accurate movements (there are millions of games ot there that do this right to take inspiration from), and fucked it up to a point where everything feels like it's down to pure luck.
And how is the Hokuto Hundred Crack Fist silly in any way?
aside from the name itself, and the rediculous sound you make when you pull it off...nothing, nothing at all...lol

of course your own complaints add to what is already a pile of crap, but character with low poly models, no AI and terrible animations i can live with (i love deus ex to this day) shite controls? i cannot.

the game is a mess and somehow makes the dynasty warriors/gundam games look highly polished and fun (which under normal conditions, arnt)

Yeah, but that's what i'm saying, teh controls aren't as shitty as you say. The first time i played the demo i thought they felt clunky and cumbersome as well, but that isn't a problem once you get used to how the game controls. What i'm saying is that the controls did very little to hinder me after the second playthrough. It's not Ninja Gaiden or DMC, but i don't think that's waht tehy were aiming for. As braindead as the combos and attacks are, at least with teh controlls your attacks feel deliberate, becasue if you jsut mash and twiddle the stick around, you'll probably have a hard time.

@Megido: I recommend at least a rental, you "get it" despite the lame demos efforts keep anyone from buying it.

KORNdog.. you're going on and on about a demo, the game has an actual tutorial level which explains things a LOT better, and Ken is slow to start but gets faster each level, but other characters like Rei start off fast, EVERY character plays DIFFERENTLY, and there are 8. LEVELING is everything, by the time you put your points into different skills and moves you FEEL the difference.. WAIT, HOLD UP..did you just disrespect the Hundred Crack Fist? I'm crying Manly tears of RAGE and pity.. This conversation was done before it started..you're already dead..
