2006-04-22 18:51:59 Nice trailer, but the game reminds me too much about Doom and Quake, it's like a mix of both, and that's not really good IMO. Quake IV and Doom 3 are average games. The portals and the walking upside down make it look more stylish but then the shooting looks like yet another shooter. --- |

2006-04-22 19:02:26 Not only does this look like the best use of the D3 engine so far, the environments seem fairly varied and the gameplay looks really cool. I am not much for some of the traditional FPS, but this game incorperates the classic "kill tournament--shoot everything" into a story ark that fits it well and just looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully the maps are not too confusing, it ain't too repetitive, and it controls/shoots well. If it does and the large number of weapons work well & the new gameplay elements (wall walking, portals, small globes, etc) this could be a TON of fun -- and should translate well into Online MP. Heck, the new trailer even makes the silly back story seem interesting and compelling. --- |

2006-04-23 01:34:25 Personally I think Doom 3 is a fine game..same with Quake IV--they're not spectacular (except perhaps in the visuals dept) but they're both solid shooters and I think a bit over exposed to massive internet forum hate.. |

2006-04-23 01:37:06 Well Quake wars is using megatextures whereas prey isn't. --- |

2006-04-23 01:51:28 Megatextures actually use less resources than Doom 3 and at the same time having more textures on screen. How ironic |

2006-04-23 02:28:53 In reply to GriftGFX (2006-04-23 01:34:25) Posted by GriftGFX I highly dissagree that this is the best use of the Doom 3 engine we've seen thus far though, I believe that would be ET:Quake Wars..since neither is out, you can't really say one predates the other..and ET:QW is a very impressive use of its engine. That said, QW looks great, but Prey and QW are diametrically opposed in regards to how they have used the base D3 engine. Both look good, very hard to compare/contrast. At the core both have the excellent Stencil Shadow Volumes; Prey had very detailed environments with a metalic-slimy deal going with a lot of "glowing" and oozing effects whereas QW is outside, less detailed in the environment yet much more vast. Their themes are really different as well. So good point Grift... although I could have copped out and gone the Optimus, "QW is D3+Megatextures!" =P Either way these 2 games are looking to both be EXCELLENT games if the gameplay lives up to the footage so far. --- |

2006-04-23 02:45:21 Something llike megatextures is what we need to see alot more in our games they'll drastically improve the look ;) Plus its quite welcome on next gen consoles that don't have a 1gig of memory (not like they need it anyway) --- |

2006-04-23 03:02:16 While the Doom3 engine is good technically, both D3 and Q4 used fairly mediocre and really uninspiring art, (just like F.E.A.R.) resulting in mixed results. Not to mention some shockingly low-res textures / normals, even in Ultra Quality. |
