Speaking to Game Informer, Epic's Mark Rein believes that user created content will be featured in the 360 version of Unreal Tournament III. In fact, Rein admits that user created content is the reason the 360 version of UTIII took so long to confirm. According to Rein, Epic was unsure that Microsoft would allow such content to pass through the dreaded certification process . Whatever the issue was, Rein is now confident that mods should be coming our way.

As noted by Joystiq, we're not really sure how such mods would be created. It's possible that mods could be made through a 360 specific level editor, though we have to question how detailed such a thing could be. Another solution would be for Epic to distribute the most popular PC content over Xbox Live. Could Live Anywhere have anything to do with this?

I don't know how it will work, but most mods are created with a high level scripting language (UnrealScript) and programs like UnrealEd, not C#. Epic probably can't let gamers just shoot on over any old mod they want to the console either, too much of a security hazard.

I think Epic would have to pick and chose content to distribute. Not much porting would probably be involved at all. You could actually get PC mods for Morrowind to load into the original Xbox version with some hacking.

Just a guess, but I don't think it'll have much to do with Live Anywhere or XNA.

Hope that becomes a reality. There are almost 50 listed mod projects for UT3 already on moddb.com:

One of the most interesting looking so far is a game (TC) called "Southern Rise":

Most obvious solution: Epic takes the highest rated user created software, edits it, and places it in XBL approved download packs. Hell, it could be great PR if it was a "Best of" package.

Only problem, some of the lesser known gems will go unseen on the consoles

If its user created maps and mods that are free on PC, then they should be free from MS on marketplace. MS had better follow this logic. If they come out with something that is equivalent to Day of Defeat on HL2 and charge for it on PC, then I have no problem paying for it on Marketplace for 360, but they had better be consistent.

The only way they could possibly charge for mod content is to pay a royalty to the modder or outright buy mods from the original owner, like Valve. Possible, but I don't see them going this route, so I would hope/assume we'd see some free mod content if this happens.

I cant see why the mods would cost anything. There aren't any mods for either of the other UT games that cost money right? Also i cant see Epic allowing something like that to happen. Epic has always given stuff to the community, as said in earlier threads about GoW downloadable content. They will bring it in for free i dont doubt it.
