What I dont get is how come it beat out games like Final Fantasy XII in art direction ??? FF12 should have definately gotten that one or at least oblivion which wasnt even nominated in that category and above all Where the Hell is Okami ?????????????

It's not Gamespot's opinion, these are the awards Announced by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Science throught the D.I.C.E Event in Las Vegas. Gamespot has nothing to do with it.

Well GoW does deserve the awards, saying that it didnt deserve art design? why not? i find the atmosphere of a destroyed european city looks very artistic. The only game i think might have taken this would have been okami...

Oblivion is not artistic at all, a bunch of trees and some castles that look pretty much like every castle out there, and some huge rats and same old armor, nothing impressive about it. Final Fantasy MIGHT be, but my personal opinion is that their art is just awful, especially the "guys" and what they wear.

Okami IS artisitc, that's something I wouldn't complain about if it had won.

Gears is artistic because of the environments, they built impressive Gothic style buildings with lots of fine details that make sense, very much like those places in Europe people go visit because of the beautiful buildings. Still, they have their own unique style in the game.

But that's me.......and those who made Gears win. There must be something to it don't you think?

Sorry Ali, but i did try the games you mention, and no nothing, and FF is so overrated im sick of it... no offense. Im not sure what you reffer to as art, but GoW creates more atmosphere than any of the games you mentioned. and Okami well atmosphere, yes, i felt like a 4 year old doodling again.

That's your personal opinion and Fair enough I guess. To me though, Gears of War doesnt win when it comes to art even though I love playing the game so much but I still have to stand up and say when it comes to Art, it's not outstanding that's all ;)I guess again as lebato said that depends on personal taste and you cant force what you like on others, as simple as that ;) I still think Oblivion is pretty outstanding when it comes to art direction. This being the result of a combination of things including how the voice acting is handeled in each area of the oblivion world and how coherent everything looks put together because it's not only about the graphics when it comes to Art Direction IMO.

Yea the voice acting is awesome in Oblivion. I love it when a bum randomly starts talking in an Irish accent, when every word that came out of his mouth prior to that is plain as day. They re-use voices constantly in Olbivion and use multiple voices during one coversation--that's freaking horrible!

I think Elderscrolls in general has relatively poor art direction overall, but it's not a poor looking game. The use of randomly generated faces on the NPC's does not help their cause one bit.

Shivering Isles looks a bit better.

Good show for Gears of War, and lol @ all the fanboys getting all excited at his acceptance speach. Go Epic, go Cliffy, you guys deserve the pat on the back.
