2007-02-22 09:31:55 ID Software Video Interview

http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?r=1&type=wm...

Some Info from interview:

Concentrating on new IP and new technology

Will leapfrog best visuals and tech out there at the moment (is that a GOW jibe?)

Base development platform for the new IP is xbox360

Won't abandon pc gaming

No need to use DX10 for a few years as DX9 can do just as much as DX10 but needs more passes?

It's time ID started to deliver again.. Last few games (Doom3 and Quake4) flopped.. Just pretty graphics is not enough..

And ID, Epic, Valve, and lately Crytek are the ones to watch when it comes to graphics and engine building..

Interesting..must have missed that one. I agree that id does have their work cut out for them in game design Inflatable, but I actually liked those last few games. Not classics, by any means, but not horrible games either.

Don't get me wrong, I like them too, especially Quake4 which I still play regular online with some friends.. But they did flop bigtime.. Quake4 only has like 100-200 people online at any given time, which is just sad.. The succes days of pure DM only games are over, so ID has to come up with something new..

Maybe Quakewars will bring them some succes..

That's because everyone is busy playing Q3A. I gave up on Q4 a while ago, when I realised that Q3A at hundreds of frames per second in super-high-resolution was actually more fun (and generally it has more people playing). As pretty? Hell no..but it's a better game. Q4 is still fun though..the single player was actually pretty good, too.

Raven made Quake 4. And Splash Damage is doing Quake Wars.

Yup..but Raven and Splash Damage are both better equiped to design games, so it's all good. id has made some fine partnerships, I think. Not that id won't be making any new games--but a lot of people have thought they'd be better off sticking to engine design anyway.
