This game is awesome!

Don't know what it is? It is a Guitar Hero clone........for PC........FOR FREE!

So basically, it follows the same formula as Guitar Hero but you use your keyboard instead. Read more about it here;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frets_On_Fire

And download from here;
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group...

Graphics are more acceptable in the current version.

The game comes with three songs only, but you can download a lot more of them for free, according to wikipedia, you can use the X360 guitar, and you can also import songs from the console version of GH.

I'm currently downloading song packs, almost 500 of them :D

In a nutshell, it may not have all the bells and whistles of GH, and graphics are nothing to be wowed about, but damn, it's fun, it's free!

Aren't there legal issues with that?

Anyway, doesn't interest me, I have GH2 360 and i'm loving it. No reason to have a version of it on pc as well.

I don't know if there are legal issues, and I frankly don't care.

If you have GH2 for 360 then you want this for a lot more songs. Out of ~200 I downloaded, I've been deleting quite a few, some of them are just not done correctly, but it's great when you find one that's just perfect!

Well it's pretty shit overall too, to be truthful. It sounds great on paper, but it's just really shoddy when you get down to playing it.. especially with "custom songs" (which would be the point of the whole thing really).

Weird. Like I said, I did have to delete many of the custom songs I downloaded, but overall lots of them (majority I'd say) are very well done. How is it shoddy or shit though? Because of the keyboard?

No, the keyboard is a smart implementation for sure, but songs that aren't multi-layered (ones that weren't ripped out of GH) simply stop playing when you screw up, essentially having your only role be keeping the song alive.

The illusion of being a guitarrist in a band is entirely crushed, and the annoyance of hearing the song cut out time and again when you're attempting a harder difficulty really ruins the experience.

But then of course it's free, so maybe the right to complain can be questioned. To me, it's inferior to just about every rythm game ever though, and not really an alternative to GH, Amplitude, Frequency, or any of the DJ Maxes and Beatmanias.

Seems pretty interesting to me. I'm all for good freeware suplementing the GH experience.. and it's compatable with the guitar too -- score.

Freeware, like the modder scene is one of the big benefits of being a Windows gamer. Love me some PC gaming.

It may not be GH or DJ Max in terms of quality -- but the price is right.

NO.

I recommend you give this game another chance. IMO, this game offers incredible value and fun at absolutely no cost. If the song stops when you make a mistake, that's a badly done song, check the folder on:

\Program files\frets on fire\data\songs

Check the song's folder, there needs to be a song.ogg in there.

Anyways. There's LOTS of very well done songs, with many difficulty levels. By the way, I have no songs from Guitar Hero, all the ones I have are custom made by other people, and again, many of them are very well done with no problems at all, and you basically get Guitar Hero with "meh" graphics.......GH is not about graphics though is it?

Certainly, if the quality of the songs is better than the stuff I managed to get my grubby mits on, I retract my statement.
