2007-05-05 02:17:14 why do EA do this? put all their stuff on the analogue sticks? for boxing it worked great, but then they destroyed def jam with it (amongst other horrible design choices). wont this lose out on tricks due to the limitations of a single analogue stick? |

2007-05-05 14:56:31 In reply to GriftGFX (2007-05-05 14:26:48) Posted by GriftGFX I hate it. I think they're eventually going to tank several popular franchises by overusing the right analog stick. Bring back my buttons, please. Seems oversimplified and just.. boring. Plus those analog sticks are never going to match the response time of the face buttons. No wai. Bravo EA --- |

2007-05-05 15:18:34 Well I don't see that as living in the past.. your boxers actually get tired in that game anyway -- and you can use the face buttons! Fight Night may be the exception but it aint the rule. I just don't like the current direction they're headed, simplifying everything in a game down to a movement of the analog stick. It's imprecise and it's simple -- something that may work fine for one game, while failing another title completely. |

2007-05-05 17:14:12 Looks good. I like what I see. Simplicity of control is why Street Fighter will always be a better, more intuitive fighter than Mortal Kombat. Moving the sticks in a more intuitive motion for the trick you are trying to pull off, is as natural an idea (as you can get with a standard controller) as swinging a faux racket to play tennis (ala Wii Sports). Anyone who actually skates is going to love this, as you are attempting to replicate motions that are 2nd nature to skaters, with the analog sticks - it engages the right side of the brain that handles the same actions in real life and will probably allow for more immersiveness. If done right, it should beat out button mashing any day of the week, not to mention breathe a very much needed and long overdue breath of new life into a genre that pretty much died a long time ago - just no one told Activision. |

2007-05-05 17:15:39 of course you cant use sticks for all games, especially DOA type games, but for SKATE... perfect. control scheme looks great, and i love the steep learning curve. this is all about making a kick flip to grind not an easy thing. no super combos like Tony Hawk's. --- |

2007-05-05 20:32:26 bye bye tony hawks, the thumstick control is pure genius. |

I'm sorry but I don't think twiddling your thumbs is anymore like real skating (or fighting, or whatever) than pushing buttons. Plus.. what does it really matter if it's more realistic.. it's a video game. If you want realism.. just go outside. :P |

2007-05-05 23:41:28 In reply to Scarface (2007-05-05 23:27:55) Posted by Scarface i think Forza should have anti grav and maybe time control like full auto:P And you're right.. realism has its place in gaming. Even a skating game. I'm still not sure I believe that binding everything to analog stick movement helps reach that goal though.. I do not believe that this will be any closer to the real thing (control wise) than Guitar Hero is to playing guitar. |

2007-05-05 23:56:57 i'd give it a chance. The first Fight Night pretty much got rid of all the competition because of the revolutionary controls. And i think SKATE could do the same. cant wait to pull off a pop shove it the way it shows on the vid. --- |

2007-05-06 00:34:58 In reply to Scarface (2007-05-06 00:20:30) Posted by Scarface They're trying to revolutionise how we use the regular dual analogue control pad. It works great, they're selling loads of copies because of it and i have started buying and getting excited about EA games. Where's the mistake? |

2007-05-06 23:17:04 I personally like the idea of using the analog sticks that way, though I agree that EA shouldn't use this method all the time just because it turned out to work perfectly for FN, but I do think it would work perfectly for Skate. --- |
